Commander (AUS) 2 g Pierro – Ephemera by More Than Ready
A strong second at Warwick Farm over 1400 metres at his previous start, Commander jumped to stakes company with a very convincing win here in career start three. He sat a distant second, one off the fence down the back with jockey Dean Yendall content to let the pacemaker roll along then moved much closer at the 600 metre mark to be in a great position to challenge into the straight.
Yendall gave him time to gather then took over at the 250 metre mark and they drew clear to score quite easily by a widening two lengths at the line in a time of 1:40.67.
Commander is one of two winners for two time-winning More Than Ready (Southern Halo) mare Ephemera.
Ephemera herself is a half-sister to Group Two winner Running Tall (Stratum) and Group One-placed Sensibility (Redoute’s Choice) and she is out of Fleeting Touch (Touch Gold).
Fleeting Touch is out of Grade Two winner Fleet Lady (Avenue Of Flags), making her a half-sister to Midshipman (Unbridled’s Song) and Listed winner Regia Marina (Medaglia d’Oro), while her three-quarter sister Fast Cookie (Deputy Minister) is the dam of Grade One winner Frosted (Tapit) and Grade Three scorer Indulgent (Bernardini).
Now standing at Darley, Frosted shuttles to their Northwood Farm base in Victoria where he stands for a fee of $33,000 (inc GST).
Ephemera’s colt foal by Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) died in 2016, before missing to the son of Danehill (Danzig) last year and she has most recently been served by his son and barn mate Snitzel.
Commander is one of nine stakes winners for Pierro (Lonhro), who stands at Coolmore Stud in the Hunter Valley for a fee of $88,000 (inc GST).
