Quarantine Diary

Duretto and Langley look in good shape on day eight in quarantine

The Andrew Balding-trained Group 3 winner Duretto (Manduro) worked upsides Japanese raider Langley (Deep Impact) in what was noticeably the fastest piece of work on Side Hill, with both galloping nicely.

The son of Manduro (Monsun) holds an entry for the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) at Flemington and he was last seen winning the Chester Stakes (Listed, 1m6.5f) on September 1.

Meanwhile Shraaoh (Sea The Stars), who will be under the care of Chris Waller upon landing in Australia, took it easy and only walked yesterday afternoon following his stronger piece of work on Tuesday.

Looking ahead, the Charlie Fellowes-trained Prince Of Arran (Shirocco) will be joined by fellow British raider Red Verdon (Lemon Drop Kid) in a piece of work on the Al Bahathri gallop in Newmarket today, as both step up their preparation for a tilt at the Melbourne Cup.

“Everything is good at the moment. We’ve had two main lots of testing and everything has been fine,” Richard Prentice, quarantine manager at IRT said.

“On Monday they will have the second nasal swab and then that is it. They will have a general check before they leave, and depending on what they want they will have electrolytes and fluids given to them, then off they go.”
