Shuttle stallions add Australasian flavour to Book 1 of Tattersalls

Included amongst the star-studded line-up are old and new faces from the shuttling scene, with a strong representation for Coolmore Stud stalwart Fastnet Rock (Danehill) and his Darley counterpart Exceed And Excel (Danehill), while sensational freshman No Nay Never (Scat Daddy), a fellow Coolmore Stud resident whose first crop of two-year-olds have exploded onto the European stage this summer, will be showcased by ten yearlings across the three-day run.

Dual Group 1-winning sprinter Brazen Beau (I Am Invincible), who finished a half-length second in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) at Royal Ascot in 2015, and Randwick Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) victor Hallowed Crown (Street Sense) are responsible for one lot each from their first crop of European yearlings, while siblings to more than ten prominent Australasian performers, either on the track or in the covering shed, will go under the hammer when the gavel is first raised at Park Paddocks today.

No Nay Never sure to prove popular in the ring

No Nay Never is currently standing his third season at Coolmore Australia for a fee of $19,250 (inc GST) and the Royal Ascot-winning juvenile, who posted a Racing Post Rating of 117 when subsequently landing the Prix Morny (Gr 1, 1200m) at Deauville, is quickly establishing himself as a worthy successor to his much-missed sire, Scat Daddy (Johannesburg).

His first crop includes Middle Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) winner Ten Sovereigns, who achieved an RPR of 121 following his half-length defeat of Jash (Kodiac) at Newmarket last month, and that success provided a timely update to the yearling filly catalogued as Lot 103, http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/103.pdf a sister to Ten Sovereigns consigned by Camas Park Stud.

Later in the catalogue, No Nay Never is also responsible for Lot 273, http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/273.pdf a colt consigned by Glenvale Stud, and he is a half-brother to Wall Of Fire (Canford Cliffs), who finished runner-up in the Herbert Power Stakes (Gr 2, 2400m) at Caulfield last year when trained by Hugo Palmer. The five-year-old has since transferred to the care of Ciaron Maher and David Eustace and he is nominated for the St Leger Stakes (2600m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Furthermore, there ought to be significant interest in Lot 320, http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/320.pdf a yearling colt from Baroda & Colbinstown Studs who is a half-brother to Glasgow Stakes (Listed, 1m3f) winner Raymond Tusk (High Chaparral), a progressive colt for Richard Hannon who has the profile of a very useful southern hemisphere import further down the line.

Fastnet Rock yearlings to harbour significant interest

Fastnet Rock (Danehill) has enjoyed another fine season with his European runners, spearheaded by Diamond Jubilee Stakes winner Merchant Navy, high-class stayer Torcedor, while he was provided with his 36th Group 1 courtesy of One Master’s victory in the Prix de la Foret (Gr 1, 1400m) and he is set to account for nine yearlings following withdrawals, including a brother to stakes winner Fastnet Tempest.

Catalogued as Lot 319 http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/319.pdf and consigned by Marlhill House Stud, the colt is out of the Be My Guest (Northern Dancer) mare Dame Blanche, while Fastnet Tempest, who was a good-quality handicapper when trained in Britain by William Haggas, carried the colours of OTI Racing to success in the TROA Anniversary Vase (Listed, 1400m) at Caulfield in April.

Lot 83, http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/83.pdf a filly consigned by Egerton Stud, is a half-sister to Raqeeq (Champs Elysees), who was knocked down to Chris Waller for 50,000 guineas at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses-In-Training Sale last November having previously been trained in France by John Hammond. He was placed over 2000 metres at Randwick on Saturday having opened his Australian account in July, while Lot 436 http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/436.pdf would be a valuable addition to any future broodmare band as a half-sister to former Coolmore shuttler Zoffany (Dansili), the sire of Ventura Storm, who finished fourth in the Turnbull Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) at Randwick on Saturday. From the draft of Croom House Stud, the filly’s page was given a timely update when her half-brother, Rostropovich (Frankel), won the Kilternan Stakes (Gr 3, 1m4f) at Leopardstown in September.

Darley’s Exceed And Excel still going strong

Exceed And Excel (Danehill) has now completed fourteen northern hemisphere breeding seasons under the Darley banner and he continues to prove a consistent supply of stakes performers, including this season’s Prix Maurice De Gheest (Gr 1, 1300m) runner-up James Garfield. He is set to be represented by eleven yearlings this week, the pick of which is perhaps Lot 149, http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/149.pdf a colt consigned by Highclere Stud who is a half-brother to Yafta (Dark Angel), an improving three-year-old for Richard Hannon who won the Hackwood Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) at Newbury on his penultimate outing in July.

Exceed And Excel is also responsible for the Charlie Appleby-trained Folkswood, who finished third in the Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) behind Winx (Street Cry) last season but disappointed on his return to Australia in September, running last in the Foundation Cup (Gr 3, 2000m) at Caulfield. His half-sister, a Zoffany filly bred by Hascombe & Valiant Studs, is catalogued as Lot 473 this week.

Young Darley sires an added interest at Book 1

Brazen Beau forms part of the roster at Darley’s Northwood Park, commanding a fee of $38,500 (inc GST), while he stood his first season at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket at an introductory price of £10,000. Included amongst his first crop of European yearlings is a maiden foal out of the winning Dansili (Danehill) mare Jaiyana, who is catalogued as Lot 423 http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/423.pdf and consigned by Sherboune Lodge, with the colt hailing from the further family of the exceptional Time Charter (Saritamer).

Hallowed Crown is a less familiar name in European circles having spent two seasons shuttling to Darley’s Kildangan Stud in Ireland, standing for a fee of €7,000 on both occasions, and his sole offering this week is a colt consigned by Kilminfoyle House Stud. Catalogued as Lot 55, http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/55.pdf the yearling is out of the Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) mare Queen Wasp, making him a half-brother to the 109-rated handicap performer Rusumaat (Arcano), while his dam is an unraced half-sister to triple Group 3 winner Naheef (Marju).

Close relation to Rekindling set to be offered
The theme of significant siblings continues apace courtesy of Lot 117, http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/117.pdf a filly from the first crop of dual Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) winner Gleneagles (Galileo). Consigned by The Castlebridge Consignment, she is a half-sister to last year’s Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) winner Rekindling (High Chaparral), while Lot 206 http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/206.pdf is a Kodiac (Danehill) half-brother to Kool Kompany (Jeremy), who won the Craven Stakes (Gr 3, 1m) at Newmarket when trained in Britain by Richard Hannon. He later transferred to the care of Chris Waller but failed to hit the frame in six starts in Australia.

Lot 12, http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/12.pdf a colt consigned by Highclere Stud from the first crop of exceptional Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Golden Horn (Cape Cross), is a half-brother to Bonfire (Manduro), a quirky but talented customer who was knocked down to McKeever Bloodstock/Gai Waterhouse Racing for 120,000 guineas at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses-In-Training Sale in 2013. He twice achieved an RPR of 108 when racing in Australia but did not manage to win a race.

Finally, former Coolmore Stud resident Rip Van Winkle (Galileo) is currently standing for a fee of €12,500 at Windsor Park Stud in New Zealand and his Frankel (Galileo) three-parts brother is set to sell on Thursday. Consigned by Barronstown Stud, the colt is catalogued as Lot 462,http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/462.pdf  while Lot 186 http://www.tattersalls.com/cat/october/2018/186.pdf is a Frankel half-sister to St Leger (Gr 1, 1m6.5f) winner Masked Marvel (Montjeu), who ran eight times in Australia before entering stud duties at Haras D’Etreham in 2015. He stood for a fee of €4,000 this year, although he has yet to have a two-year-old grace the racecourse.
