Debutante Louis Luck provided Newgate Farm-based first crop sire Dissident (Sebring) with his first winner after landing the Wellington Cup Day Next Saturday 2YO (1200m) at
Trentham on Saturday, recording a smart time of 1:08.61.

Rider Opie Bosson wasted no time in reaching the front and held the lead over the crossing and into the straight, from where he was challenged strongly to the 200 metres.

A match race appeared evident as favourite The Fugitive (Wanted) loomed up alongside, but it was Louis Luck who defied his comparative inexperience to win stylishly by a length.

The victory also ensured the gelding qualified for the Karaka Million (RL, 1200m) at Ellerslie next weekend, one of five in the race for trainer Jamie Richards.

Owned by Cambridge Stud proprietors Brendan and Jo Lindsay, Louis Luck was purchased for NZ$105,000 at the 2018 Karaka Book 1 Sale from the draft of Little Avondale Stud.

Louis Luck is the first foal out of US stakes winner My Option (Belong To Me), who counts
the Arlington Oaks (Gr 3, 9f) among her five career victories. My Option herself is one of six winners out of the Chiba (Storm Bird) mare Out Of Options, who was a winner at Listed level in the US.

A US$290,000 purchase by the China Horse Club from the Keeneland November
Breeding Sale, My Option has a filly foal and yearling by Dissident and was covered by Newgate Farm’s exciting new stallion Russian Revolution (Snitzel) on October 20 last year.

Louis Luck’s sister will be offered as part of the Davali Thoroughbreds draft and is
catalogued as Lot 552 https://inglis.com.au/sales/info/2019+Classic+Yearling+Sale/catalogue/552  at this year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, which begins it’s five-day
run in Sydney on February 9.
