Aylmerton (AUS) 2 c Siyouni – Aloona by Smart Strike
The Jean Dubois-trained colt Aylmerton (Siyouni) broke well from barrier three and was settled in third on the rails by Jean Van Overmeire. After travelling smoothly through race he was switched across as the field began to straighten up.
The son of Siyouni (Pivotal) was asked for his effort on passing the 100 metre mark and went on to score a comfortable three quarter length victory in a winning time of 1:11.29.
The colt is the first foal out of the winning Smart Strike (Mr Prospector) mare Aloona, who was covered by Siyouni to southern hemisphere time.
Aloona herself is a half-sister to Galatee (Galileo), the dam of dual Group Two winners Dartmouth (Dubawi) and Manatee (Monsun), while Galatee also produced Listed winner Gaterie (Dubai Destination).
Meanwhile, Aylmerton’s third dam produced dual Group / Grade One winner Arcangues (Sagace) and Agathe (Manila), the latter being the dam of multiple Group One winner Aquarelliste (Danehill), dual Grade One winner Artiste Royal (Danehill) and stakes winner Annenkov (Danehill).
Further back this is the family as 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) winner Cape Verdi (Caerleon) and Beverly D Stakes (Gr 1, 9.5f) winner Angara (Alzao).
In 2016, Aloona missed to Widden Stud / Woodside Park-based sire Zoustar (Northern Meteor), before producing a filly by the Arrowfield Stud-based sire Smart Missile (Fastnet Rock) in 2017 and she has most recently been covered by Darley first season sire Astern (Medaglia d’Oro).
The colt was Siyouni’s first runner in Australia and he stands at The Aga Khan Studs, Haras de Bonneval in France for a fee of €75,000, up from €45,000 last year.
