The Mighty Fed, who was having his second career start, was quickly away from barrier three under Blake Shinn. He was then settled on the inner in seventh place and improved smartly between runners as the race unfolded.

As the field approached the home turn the gelding was asked for his effort and eventually managed to take the lead at the 200 metre mark and went on to win by two lengths in a time of 1:12.79 on a Heavy 8 track.

The Mighty Fed is the second foal out of the Listed-winning and Group Three-placed mare Swiss Rose (Thorn Park), whose other foal to race, Fabvier (Fastnet Rock), is also a winner.

Swiss Rose herself is a half-sister Listed winner Prom Queen (Super Easy). Among the gelding’s other relatives is Maribyrnong Plate (Gr 2, 1000m) winner Catnipped (Rory’s Jester) and South African Grade Two winner Brazuca (Teofilo) and Listed winner Mr Utopia (Elusive Quality).

In 2015 Swiss Rose missed to Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), before producing a filly by the  Arrowfield-based sire in 2016. Most recently, she was covered by Darley shuttler Medaglia d’Oro (El Prado).

The Mighty Fed was a second winner for first season sire All Too Hard (Casino Prince) and the gelding joins Lincoln Hills as the Vinery-based stallion’s other winner, following Lincoln Hills’ victory at Tauherenikau on 26 March. All Too Hard stands at Vinery Stud for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST).
