Written Choice scored a promising win here on debut. He was smartly away from barrier nine and was eased to settle in third place by Brandon Stockdale before improving along the rails to lead on passing the 700 metre mark.

He grabbed a good break on straightening up and held on well to win well by a length in a time of 0:57.32.

Purchased by Mark Riley for $230,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Woodside Park Stud draft, Written Choice is out the Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) mare Rate The Choice, who has had five foals to race with four of them winners.

Rate The Choice herself is a three-quarters sister to stakes winner and now sire Bradbury’s Luck (Redoute’s Choice).

The colt’s third dam is the winning mare Raffett (Raffindale), who produced dual Group One winner Skating (Al Talaq), the dam of Group Three winner Murtajill (Rock Of Gibraltar) and Listed winner Sunset Run (End Sweep).

Raffett also produced Skates (Danehill), the granddam of Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Vancouver (Medaglia d’Oro), fellow Group One winner Juste Momente (Giant’s Causeway), and Listed winners Captain Coltish (Fusaichi Pegasus) and Zauberin (Zabeel).

Since foaling Written Choice, Rate The Choice has foaled two more foals by the Woodside Park Stud-based stallion Written Tycoon (Iglesia), a two-year-old filly and a yearling colt, and was not covered in 2016.
