Marishka staged a really promising effort in winning over 1100 metres on debut at Canterbury on Wednesday. Ridden by Blake Shinn, the filly was settled in third on the rails from barrier three before going to second at the home turn. She then finished well, eventually heading the leader at the 50 metre mare before going on to score by three quarters of a length in a time of 1:04.50.

The three-year-old filly is out of the four-time winning mare Snippets (Lunchtime) Bahia, making Marishka a sister to Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Overreach and Group Three-placed and now Widden Stud-based sire Outreach and a further two winners.

Bahia herself is out the Listed-winning mare Miss Prospect (Rory’s Jester) and is half-sister to Listed winner Consular (Royal Academy) and the Group One winner and now sire Reward For Effort (Exceed And Excel), thus making Marishka a three-quarters sister to the Chatsworth Stud-based stallion.

Further back the filly is from the same family as Group Three winner Life’s Bounty (Bahamian Bounty), Group Three winner Charmed Harmony (Hussonet) and Grade Three winner Suyoof (Magic Albert).

In 2015 Bahia missed to the Arrowfield-based sire Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), before producing a colt by Exceed And Excel and was covered again by the Darley sire last season.
