The David Atkins-trained Jonker made a most impressive winning debut over 900 metres at Newcastle on Sunday, in the process providing his first season sire Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo) with his third winner.

The colt, who showed plenty of ability when winning a barrier trial by nine and a quarter lengths at Newcastle on 21 November, again displayed plenty of early pace from his draw in barrier three and soon went to the front under Aaron Bullock.

He travelled strongly throughout and raced clear once asked for his effort nearing the 200 metres and went on to win easily by three lengths in quick time, sprinting home in a fast 32.85 for his final 600 metres.

His trainer has earmarked next month’s lucrative Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) at the Gold Coast as a potential target for the promising sprinter.

The Wicklow Lodge-bred Jonker is one of two named foals out of the winning Kempinsky (Danehill) mare Hearts And Arrows, who is herself a half-sister to the 2009 C S Hayes Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) winner Fair Trade (Danewin).

His second dam Village Igea (Papal Power) produced eight winners from ten foals to race and is a sister to Catecombe, the dam of dual Group Two winner Impaler (Dracula) and stakes placegetter Stratcombe (Stratum).

His third dam Wycombe (Imposing) is a half-sister to Group One winner and successful sire Danewin (Danehill) and the late, multiple Group One-producing stallion Commands (Danehill), while this is also the same family as Group Three winner Quilate (Bramshaw).

Eureka Stud-based Spirit Of Boom currently leads the first seasons sire standings in Australia by both winners and earnings.
