Bumper Australian Weanling Sale catalogued

Weanlings by the likes of Frankel (Galileo), Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), Zoustar (Northern Meteor) and Written Tycoon (Iglesia) – as well as siblings to Group 1 winners and progeny of Group 1-winning dams – feature as part of the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale catalogue.

Released yesterday, a total of 447 weanlings – the largest edition of the sale in its history – have been catalogued for the auction which will be held at Riverside on Monday, May 1, and Tuesday, May 2.

Once again, there is large draft from Mike and Debbie O’Donnell’s Fairhill Farm which includes foals by the likes of Farnan (Not A Single Doubt), Toronado (High Chaparral), Deep Field (Northern Meteor), Street Boss (Street Cry) and King’s Legacy (Redoute’s Choice), while Coolmore has entered 34 weanlings including the progeny of Frankel, Camelot (Montjeu), Zoustar and Wootton Bassett (Iffraaj), the latter of whom is represented by his first southern hemisphere-bred crop.

The sale has been further boosted by a 17-strong dispersal from Ashleigh Thoroughbreds, featuring a brother to Group 1-winning two-year-old Captivant (Written Tycoon) as well as weanlings by Ole Kirk (Written Tycoon), So You Think (High Chaparral), Star Turn (Star Witness) and Anders (Not A Single Doubt).

Ashleigh Thoroughbreds’ Senga Bissett and Ivan Woodford-Smith last year sold their Scone property to Nick and Jasmine Hodges’ Riversdale Stud.

In all there are weanlings by 103 individual sires including other proven stallions such as Exceed And Excel (Danehill), Fastnet Rock (Danehill), Camelot, Pierro (Lonhro), Shamus Award (Snitzel), Savabeel (Zabeel), Russian Revolution (Snitzel), Capitalist (Written Tycoon) and Lonhro (Octagonal), who was pensioned last week.

Progeny of All Too Hard (Casino Prince), Brazen Beau (I Am Invincible), Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo), Dundeel (High Chaparral), Hellbent (I Am Invincible), Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) and Rebel Dane (California Dane), as well as exciting young sires such as The Autumn Sun (Redoute’s Choice), Justify (Scat Daddy), Trapeze Artist (Snitzel), Grunt (O’Reilly), Harry Angel (Dark Angel), Written By (Written Tycoon), Brave Smash (Tosen Phantom) and Showtime (Snitzel).

“The support we have received for this sale has been tremendous and it’s fantastic to be able to showcase a catalogue of this size and strength,’’ Inglis Bloodstock chief executive Sebastian Hutch said.

“There is tremendous variety amongst the stallions represented and there is a marked increase in the quality on recent years, which is an exciting thing for us and for buyers.

“The recent results for end users out of this sale have been fabulous with graduates such as Redzel, Begood Toya Mother, Spright, Leicester, Houtzen etc, while it’s also proven a happy hunting ground for pinhookers.

“Out of last year’s sale alone there have already been some outstanding pinhook results at all levels of the market – $80,000 into $400,000, $150,000 into $400,000, $200,000 into $400,000, $50,000 into $240,000, $15,000 into $200,000, etc.

“A sale like this offers opportunities to anyone and everyone at low entry level points, from pinhooks through to traders and established trainers and syndicators.’’

The Australian Weanling Sale is part of a huge fortnight of action at Riverside which begins with the HTBA Yearling Sale on Sunday, April 23.
