Jolted

TRAINER: John Sargent

RACE: Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m)

Having sent out Gust Of Wind (Darci Brahma) to an upset victory over star mare Winx (Street Cry) in the 2015 Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m), Randwick-based trainer John Sargent is hoping he can repeat the trick in this year’s renewal with promising filly Jolted (Deep Impact).

The daughter of legendary sire Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) broke her maiden in stylish fashion at the fifth attempt, scoring a length success over Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) gelding Snizzi in a 2100-metre event at Newcastle last month, seemingly relishing the step up to 2100 metres.

A $900,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling purchase for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock out of the Arrowfield Stud draft, Jolted runs for her co-breeder Jonathan Munz’s Pinecliff Racing and will stretch out even further in today’s 2400-metre Classic, where she will face two-time Group 1 winner Fireburn (Rebel Dane) and dual Group-winning Kiwi raider Polygon (Highly Recommended) among 14 rivals.

Conceived in Japan, Jolted is the first foal out of the South Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) winner Abbey Marie (Redoute’s Choice), herself a full-sister to Australian Oaks winner Absolutely, from the family of dual Group 1-winning mare Nettoyer (Sebring).

Deep Impact has a near perfect record with daughters of Redoute’s Choice (Danehill), producing eight winners from nine starters, headed by recently retired Group 1 winner Profondo and the Japanese-bred-and-trained Satono Arthur.
