Miss Joelene

The Kelly Schweida-trained Miss Joelene (Russian Revolution) will bid to provide her Group 1-winning Queensland-based handler with a feature-race success today when lining up in the Gold Pearl (1100m) at the Gold Coast.

Having made a promising trial debut when runner-up in an 800-metre heat at Eagle Farm behind subsequent maiden winner She’s A Rogue (Nicconi), the juvenile filly made an impressive first racecourse outing just a fortnight later, beating She Mine (Pride Of Dubai) by three lengths in an 1100-metre Beaudesert maiden.

Drawn in barrier nine for today’s contest, the daughter of Newgate Farm stallion Russian Revolution (Snitzel) is a general $16 chance and will take on nine rivals under jockey James Orman, including the dual stakes-placed odds-on favourite Excel D’Or (Exceed And Excel).

Miss Joelene is the first foal out of the More Than Ready (Southern Halo) mare Cellargirl, winner of the Bill Carter Stakes (Listed, 1200m) and third in both the Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) and Tea Rose Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) when trained by Schweida.

Cellargirl is herself a half-sister to Doncaster Prelude (Gr 3, 1500m) winner Cellarman (Mossman) and The Roses (Gr 2, 1800m)-placed winner Cellarmaid (Husson), being out of the unraced Cape Cross (Green Desert) mare Vintage Blend.

She has an unnamed filly by Arrowfield Stud stallion The Autumn Sun (Redoute’s Choice) and slipped to Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) last year. Russian Revolution stands for a fee of $71,500 (inc GST).
