Kelly Schweida will look to secure a runner for next month’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1100m) when two of his stable’s youngsters make their debut in Saturday’s Phelan Ready (Listed, 1110m) at Doomben.

The trainer’s first chance comes through Zousain (Zoustar) filly Jolayna Dash, who heads to the races off a second-placed Doomben trial in early November with Cejay Graham booked to ride. Schweida is satisfied with her build-up but says the race, as usual for December juveniles, is difficult to assess.

What's On

“It's very hard to line up these two-year-olds from the trials and I think there's only one that has won a race. So it's really hard to line them up. She trialled alright, barrier one will help and we’re expecting that she'll run well,” Schweida told ANZ News.

Jolayna Dash’s preparation has been impacted by several abandoned trial sessions following Queensland’s recent run of storms, forcing Schweida to reshuffle plans.

“We've been mucked around a little bit. She was supposed to have another trial, but we've had storms through the last month and I think the last two or three trials that I was going to put her in were cancelled,” he said.

“Last Tuesday, she was supposed to trial, last Thursday she was supposed to trial, and then they put the trials on Tuesday, which is a bit close for me. I don't like trialling two year olds on a Tuesday and then running them on a Saturday.”

A $90,000 purchase for her trainer from Vinery Stud’s draft at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Jolayna Dash has been a filly the trainer has liked from the outset, with the Magic Millions 2YO Classic remaining the stable’s hopeful target.

“She is a nice filly, got the big ears, which I like. [The Magic Millions] is the A game, but where we end up, who knows? You've got to perform. If they win, they're easy to place. If they're not, they're hard,” the trainer said.

Schweida also presents Home Affairs (I Am Invincible) colt Fair Shake, although a wide gate in barrier ten has tempered expectations.

“Unfortunately he's got barrier ten. From that start it is very awkward unless you've got a lot of speed, which he doesn't have, so if you go forward you'll end up three or four deep, and the two year olds all run nowhere if they do that,” Schweida said.

“But if you go back to last, they're going to run home in probably 34 [seconds], and he's not capable of running 32 and a half, so he'll probably have to go back, I would say, and hopefully he finishes off. If it wasn't that sort of race, I wouldn't be running him.”

Despite the setup, Schweida believes the colt, who he purchased from Bhima Thoroughbreds for $80,000 also at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, has a bright future.

“He's a nice looking dude. He's well bred. The Home Affairs are going good and he's out of a Stradbroke winner [Srikandi],” he said.

“He's a good type. He's a quiet colt, which is good. I don't mind him, but it's a bad map for him tomorrow.”

The stable also has strong representation later in the program, with talented colt Grafterburners (Graff) stepping out in the $160,000 Pierata Plate (1200m) following his impressive first-up victory.

A firming $2.30 favourite on Friday, Schweida sees no reason why the colt won’t perform to market expectation.

“He's a good looking rooster. His first-up run was good. We gave him a few days off in the water walker to freshen up and he had a soft jump out on Tuesday,” he said.

“He's a colt, he puts on a bit of weight. Dry tracks don't worry him. He's been to Doomben before. He's a nice horse. It is hard to line up the form of a couple of those Sydney horses, but he's done everything right. He's just a nice horse.”

Grafterburners enjoyed a strong juvenile season, highlighted by his QTIS Jewel 2YO (1200m) win and a third and two sixth placings behind star colt Cool Archie (Cool Aza Beel) in the Spirit Of Boom Classic (Gr 2, 1200m), BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) and J.J. Atkins (Gr 1, 1600m).

Schweida believes his defeats at longer trips were simply a case of the colt being stretched past his best.

“When he got to 1400 [metres] and a mile that horse of Munce’s [Cool Archie] whopped us pretty well, but he was in work a long time,” Schweida said.

“We won the jewel in March, and then he had a couple of weeks off, and then we attacked the carnival. He performed well at Doomben in a 1200-metre race, I think he drew wide and was three deep, and only got beaten head then, and then Cool Archie beat us fair and square at 1400 metres and the mile, but he's a pretty good horse Cool Archie.”

Plenty of summer options sit ahead for the colt, including potential travel interstate to the Inglis Sprint (1200m), a race won by Schweida with El Morzillo (Star Witness) last year.

“He's a nice horse and there are some nice races for him, if he can compete,” the trainer added.

“He'll go to [the Gold Edition (Listed, 1200m) in a fortnight. Then the Vo Rogue [Plate] on the 3rd of January or skip that and go to the slot race. He's an Inglis horse, so he can go to that million-dollar race at Flemington [Inglis Sprint].

“It's a lot to ask and also three or four weeks later, he's eligible for that half-a-million dollar three-year-old race at the coast, because he's QTIS. He's got a few plans if he can justify going there.”

Shares in Group 1 stars highlight Magic Millions Digital Sale

Within The Law (top) , Blitzburg (bottom) and Overpass (right) (Credit: Sportpix)

Shares in three stars with major summer and autumn targets are among the headline offerings in the latest Magic Millions Digital Sale, which is now open for bidding.

The December 5-10 online catalogue features 45 lots, including ownership opportunities in high-profile performers Overpass (Vancouver), Within The Law (Lucky Vega) and Blitzburg (Snitzel).

A five per cent share in Overpass gives prospective buyers the rare chance to join the ownership of a Group 1-winning sprinter who is scheduled to race for $1.5 million just days after the sale concludes. The Bjorn Baker-trained gelding, who finished a narrow runner-up in last Saturday’s Winterbottom Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m), is set to return to Ascot next week for the The Gold Rush (Gr 3, 1200m).

"The opportunity to buy a share in a horse that ran second in a Group 1 less than a week ago and is planning to run in a $1,500,000 race within a week is a very exciting proposition," Magic Millions head of digital Bryce Bevan said.

Also on offer are two additional shares (five per cent and 2.5 per cent) in Within The Law, after 11.5 per cent of the Group 2-winning, dual Group 1-placed filly sold through the previous Magic Millions Digital sale.

"It is another great opportunity to buy into a genuine Group 1 filly with big autumn carnival targets ahead," Bevan said.

A two per cent share in Group-winning juvenile Blitzburg is also available as he gears up for a Sydney Summer Carnival campaign with trainer Michael Freedman.

Buyers can also target a 2.5 per cent share in lightly raced Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) colt Decorum, a Newcastle winner who has shown strong early promise.

Racehorse offerings include recent WA winner Why Me (Jimmy Choux) and the consistent Intruder (Epaulette), while the broodmare section features the well-related Klum (Snitzel) and the stakes-placed Ghobella (Blackfriars), both offered in foal.

Bidding closes from 12pm (QLD) on Wednesday, December 10.

Ocean Beyond bidding to break drought in Ballarat Cup

Ocean Beyond (Ocean Park) has proven a remarkably reliable earner for connections and trainer Simon Ryan hopes the veteran can land a breakthrough black-type win in Saturday’s $500,000 Ballarat Cup (Listed, 2000m). The eight-year-old has amassed $535,475 across his career despite not winning since the Straight Six (Listed, 1200m) at Flemington in May, 2022. After stints with Daniel Bowman and Andrew Bobbin, Ocean Beyond joined Ryan last year and, although winless in 24 starts for the Warrnambool conditioner, he has banked more than $135,000 through six placings and another four fourths. “When he came to me he was on the verge of retirement,” Ryan said. “He hadn’t done much for a while and as he’s got a bit older, he appears to be getting out in distance and has probably reinvented himself a little bit. I know he’s probably not a punter’s favourite, but if you put your business hat on, he’s winning plenty of money and covering his costs. We’re hoping one day that lightning strikes, and he gets away with a good race.” Ocean Beyond backs up quickly from last Saturday’s Eclipse Stakes (Gr 3, 1800m) where he finished third behind Casino Seventeen (Casino Prince) and Rumbled Again (Night Of Thunder). “The best runs he’s had from me have been when he’s been on the quick back-up,” Ryan said. “I’m confident he can run, at least, as well as he did last Saturday, and hopefully better. The 2000 metres is probably as far as he wants it, but I think he’ll run a strong 2000 coming off last Saturday.”

Inhabit on Magic Millions trial at Morphettville

Unbeaten filly Inhabit (Stay Inside) will bid to secure her ticket to the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) when she lines up at Morphettville Parks on Saturday, with a Queensland campaign hinging on another victory. A sharp debut winner at Murray Bridge in October, the Michael Hickmott-trained juvenile contests the Sportsbet Same Race Multi Two-Year-Old Plate (1000m), where her task has been eased by the scratching of three rivals, leaving just two opponents. Hickmott has mapped out an ambitious summer path for the filly, with the Aquis Gold Pearl (1100m) on January 10 pencilled in as her lead-up to the Magic Millions feature a week later – provided she gets the required prize-money this weekend. “If she wins on Saturday, she should get enough prize-money to qualify for the two-year-old race up there,” Hickmott said. “The plan would be for her to go up there the week before and run in the 1100-metre fillies' race and then back up into the Magic Millions the following week. We’re getting a little bit ahead of ourselves as she needs to win on Saturday first…then she’s probably earned her way to go up there.” Hickmott said the ownership group, made up entirely of women, including his wife, members of prominent owner John O’Neill’s family and Victoria Racing Club CEO Kylie Rogers, is eager for a Gold Coast tilt. “She’s a female-owned horse, so she will be running for the Lady bonuses as well up there,” he said. “There are some good owners in this filly, and it would be good to get them all up there.”

Mason with pair of big runners at Doomben

Nearly 30 years after his greatest triumph with Arctic Scent (Blazing Sword) in the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m), former Victorian trainer Jim Mason is back in the spotlight, this time on the Sunshine Coast, where he has rebuilt his career as private trainer for owner-breeder Michael Sherrin. After a decade away from training, Mason made a successful return when Street Chase (Zoustar) won the Pierata Plate (1200m) at Doomben 12 months ago and he will attempt to claim the race again on Saturday with Wootten Hyde (Wootton Bassett), while promising filly Shadwell Lane (Wootton Bassett) lines up in the Mode Stakes (Listed, 1200m). “Wootten Hyde only won his maiden at Doomben last start but I’m hoping he’s good enough to make it to the winter carnival next year,” Mason told Racing Queensland. “He was bought at the New Zealand breeze-up sales and he works like a really nice horse. He gives me the impression there’s a really nice race in him, so he might go to the Gold Edition Plate next start.” Shadwell Lane, who broke her maiden two runs ago, comes off a strong fifth at the Sunshine Coast. “I thought her last run when she finished fifth was very good,” Mason said. “It was a nice kick board into this race and had she drawn better I think she would have finished a lot closer. Unfortunately, she also is not Magic Millions but winning black-type like this race is very important for her breeding prospects. It’s all about black-type for a filly like her as her owner Michael Sheerin breeds from a lot of his horses.” Mason said Shadwell Lane could progress to the Vo Rogue Plate (Gr 3, 1300m) at Eagle Farm on January 3. “It’ll mean taking on the boys, but the Vo Rogue might be a nice race for her,” he said.

Rosehill task for Swift Legend

Jockey Jason Collett believes progressive colt Swift Legend (Dundeel) has the talent to make an impression in better company, but said the three-year-old must sharpen his race-day manners when he tackles Sunday’s Vinnie @ Yarraman Park Handicap (1500m) at Rosehill. The Dundeel (High Chaparral) colt brings successive midweek wins at Warwick Farm and Canterbury into the Benchmark 72 assignment, with Collett aboard for both victories. While impressed by Swift Legend’s ability, the Sydney rider said continued professionalism will be crucial from barrier ten. “He just needs to do things professionally. He is still that bit raw so that could be his undoing,” Collett said. “He stepped up in trip last time and he was tough and strong…but when he got to the front, he was having a good look around. He’s still got more to come in that sense, and he does have an engine too. The barrier is tricky, but he is heading in the right direction.” Collett, runner-up to James McDonald in last season’s Sydney premiership, has ridden 22 winners this term and has a busy book with seven rides on the Rosehill program. One of his more intriguing mounts is the Chris Waller-trained Elliptical (Dundeel) in the TAB Handicap (1400m). A dual Group 1 runner-up in Australia before a short-lived Hong Kong stint, Elliptical lines up after an encouraging return at Newcastle and has tightened from $21 to $17 in early markets.

Half-brother to Lady Of Camelot scores on debut

Well-educated through six barrier trials, Lancelot Du Lac (Flying Artie) delivered on that promise at his first raceday appearance, surging clear for an authoritative victory at Randwick-Kensington on Friday. A half-brother to Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) heroine Lady Of Camelot (Written Tycoon), the colt justified his $3.50 favouritism in the Precise Air Maiden Handicap (1300m) with a performance that impressed both punters and connections. Racing in the colours of Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock, which also bred his stakes-winning siblings Queen Of The Ball (I Am Invincible) and Platinum Jubilee (Zoustar), the three-year-old landed in a perfect trailing position under Adam Hyeronimus. When asked, Lancelot Du Lac lengthened stylishly, putting the race away inside the final 200 metres to score by 2.4 lengths over Bello Cavallo (Russian Revolution), with the Chris Waller-trained Makhachev (Zoustar) another 0.4 lengths away in third. Hyeronimus, who rode the winner in his first trial back in April, said the only query heading into the debut was the trip. “Very impressed for him to do that in his first race start," he said. “Jumped really well, with the blinkers on first time and to chase a leader like that, I was always sort of confident through the run…not only that, he won dominantly. So, it's very impressive and that obviously goes to Gai and Adrian.” Lancelot Du Lac continues the remarkable record of his Listed-winning dam Miss Debutante (Fastnet Rock), whose four runners to date are all winners – including three stakes winners. Her current two-year-old, Lone Piper (I Am Invincible), is in work with Chris Waller, while she produced a Zoustar (Northern Meteor) filly in September.

Twain ready for Concorde as Bell eyes another Railway

Twain (Credit: Race Images)

Ultra-consistent sprinter Twain (Per Incanto) will take another key step toward his major summer target when he lines up in Saturday’s Concorde Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Pukekohe Park. The gelding has compiled an outstanding record since debuting in July last year, winning seven of 14 starts and never finishing worse than fourth. As a son of Railway (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Fleur De Lune (Stravinsky), it is fitting that the late-January Ellerslie sprint remains his primary goal. “The positives are all there, everything’s coming together,” trainer John Bell said. “He handles wet ground but he’s really no mudder, so I’m hoping the track comes back from its current [Soft 5] rating. He’s such an athlete, a true professional, and just a lovely horse to do anything with.” Twain returns to the scene of his last-start second in the Counties Bowl (Gr 3, 1100m), where he conceded four kilograms to Ardalio (Ardrossan). Prior to that, he claimed the Sweynesse Stakes (Gr 3, 1215m) at Rotorua under a hefty 59 kilograms at weight-for-age. Saturday’s set weights and penalties leave him well placed with 56 kilograms, only three kilos above the minimum in an eight-horse field. “He’s there to win, so we’ve got to beat them and they’ve got to beat us,” Bell said. “I’m looking forward to giving him his chance in the Railway…it would be great to see him do what his mother did.” With regular rider Vinnie Colgan engaged at Trentham, Bell turns to Triston Moodley, who has already enjoyed multiple wins on Twain.

Master Fay set to take flight in Concorde

It may no longer sit on the glittering Karaka Millions undercard, but a victory in Saturday’s Concorde Stakes at Pukekohe would mean just as much to trainer Chad Ormsby, who again saddles stable star Master Fay (Deep Field) in the feature sprint. The gelding claimed last year’s Concorde at Ellerslie in just his second New Zealand start following a short Hong Kong stint, where he won his only appearance for Caspar Fownes. Since joining Ormsby, Master Fay has been sparingly campaigned, registering four wins and two placings from nine local starts. The now eight-year-old has been given a patient build-up this preparation, with three trials before winning first-up over 1200 metres at Ellerslie in October. He was then withdrawn from last month’s Counties Bowl (Listed, 1100m) due to rain-affected ground. “We missed a run in the Counties Bowl. I made a bit of a blue in scratching a little bit early,” Ormsby said. “It has ruined a preparation before, hence why I didn’t want to go anywhere near an off track. It hasn’t rocked the boat too much…he went to Ellerslie last Saturday for a gallop and worked really well.” While upbeat about Master Fay’s condition, Ormsby acknowledges Saturday’s challenge and has again entrusted the ride to apprentice Sam McNab, who was aboard last time out. “There are still a couple of decent runners in the field, things will need to go right,” Ormsby said. “I am excited to give young Sam a shot. This horse is as good as we have got and Sam rode him exceptionally well last time.”

Manners the key for Taylor Square in Bonecrusher

Cambridge trainer Paul Mirabelli has bid farewell to rising star Shoma (Contributer) but believes his stable still holds significant three-year-old depth as the season unfolds. Still a maiden after ten starts, Shoma produced a breakout performance when finishing third in the New Zealand 2,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) at Riccarton last month. The run sparked strong international interest, culminating in a sale to expat Kiwi trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, for whom he will now race out of Cranbourne. “People obviously like the horse and to make the business work they have to be sold, so it is very disappointing, but we will follow him with great interest,” Mirabelli said. Shoma follows a similar trajectory to former stablemate Firestorm (Satono Aladdin), who sold to Chris Waller after placing in the NZ 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) and has since become a Group 2 winner and Group 1 placegetter in Australia. Despite the loss, Mirabelli is upbeat about another three-year-old prospect in Taylor Square (Time Test). “We really like him but unfortunately the horse is a complete know-it-all,” he said. “He can really gallop and has plenty of ability, he just thinks he knows best and can be very difficult to work with.” Taylor Square’s immaturity has cost him in recent starts, but Mirabelli is hopeful that the addition of a blindfold will curb his behaviour in the gates ahead of Saturday’s Bonecrusher Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m). “Hopefully he can jump away with the field and not give them too much of a head start,” he said. “He’s more than competitive with that field, but he’s very unpredictable.”

Mystic Park primed for Trentham sprint

Riccarton trainers Michael and Matthew Pitman have long enjoyed success at Trentham, and the father-and-son team will return to their favourite hunting ground on Saturday with a trio of well-fancied runners. Trentham has played host to some of the stable’s biggest victories, among them Savvy Coup’s (Savabeel) New Zealand Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) and Enzo’s Lad’s (Testa Rossa) back-to-back Telegraph (Gr 1, 1200m) wins. “It’s probably my favourite track,” Michael Pitman said. “We don’t go to Wellington unless we have a certain degree of confidence that they will perform.” Their leading hope is last-start Group 3 winner Mystic Park (Ocean Park), who contests the Spring Sprint (Gr 3, 1400m). The Pitmans had initially earmarked the Mufhasa Classic (Gr 1, 1600m) but changed plans earlier in the week. “We were going to run in the mile but when the field came up so strong and the way the ratings are based, I said to the owners we were better off to go this way this week and concentrate on the Thorndon,” Pitman said. “There is a heap of good racing coming up next year for a horse like him. The sprint looks a nice race for him.” Mystic Park carries 57.5 kilograms and Pitman believes the 1400 metres suits him perfectly. The stable is equally excited about Rosso (Camelot), who lines up in the Rothley 2100 (2100m) ahead of a tilt at next month’s Wellington Cup (Gr 3, 3200m). “He’s a revelation really,” Pitman said. “Now he’s equal favourite for the Wellington Cup and that’s his main aim.” Rounding out the team is El Vaquero (Ferrando) in the Aztech Engineering Sprint (1000m), who regains blinkers. “He drops back to Rating 65 grade and has blinkers back on Saturday,” Pitman said. “That should help him over the sprint trip.”

HK: Eustace eyes extended hot streak at Sha Tin ahead of HKIR

David Eustace (Credit: HKJC)

David Eustace is aiming to maintain a rich vein of form at Sha Tin on Sunday that has seen him climb the trainers’ standings in recent weeks, hoping it extends to next week’s Hong Kong International Races (HKIR) meeting. Five wins from the last four Sha Tin meetings have ignited the second-season handler’s campaign after a slow start, and one of his best chances of adding to his seasonal tally of eight wins is Swift Ascend (Lord Kanaloa) in the day’s sporting highlight, the Class 2 Chatham Handicap (1200m, dirt). The six-year-old gelding struck three times – his only three wins – in quick succession at the beginning of the 2024/25 season and made a sound start to the current campaign with a fast-closing fifth place last month. Eustace believes the timing is right for the six-year-old to make his bow on the dirt. “I always wanted to do it [run him on dirt], but probably the right opportunity hadn’t presented. This race was three weeks after his really good first-up run,” Eustace said. “Kick-back is something that a lot of horses may not enjoy early on when they’re not used to it, but they do get used to it. His run style is going to be the most concerning part of it. He’s a horse who does sit midfield or worse, so the draw will be important.” Eustace hopes his surge will extend to next week’s HKIR, where he saddles the 2024 Hong Kong Derby (2000m) winner Massive Sovereign (No Nay Never) in the Hong Kong Cup (Gr 1, 2000m). It’s a challenge that will provide the second-year trainer with his first taste of the jurisdiction’s showpiece meeting, though it pits his runner against the great Romantic Warrior (Acclamation). “I’m very happy with Massive Sovereign,” Eustace said. “It’s a big assignment. But all we can do is get him to the races in as good a shape as we can. You never know, it’s a horse race.”

HK: Bowman feels luck of draw key to IJC success

Hugh Bowman believes this year’s International Jockeys’ Championship (IJC) at Happy Valley on December 10 is wide open, with the winner of the annual showcase likely to be decided by the luck of the draw. The 12 elite riders who will compete at the 2025 edition will gather for the Jockeys’ Allocation, which determines each of the jockeys’ rides on the night, as well as the barrier they will be assigned, at a traditional ceremony in Hong Kong on December 8. Bowman dismissed suggestions that familiarity with the Happy Valley track might provide him and the other local competitors, former IJC winners Zac Purton and Vincent Ho, with an added advantage. “I’d say all of the jockeys that are in the competition this year have all ridden there, so they’re more familiar with it,” Bowman said. “They’re all, obviously, world-class riders, and I think it’s going to be more determined by what horses are drawn than anything else.” Bowman is no stranger to the jockey challenge format and could fairly be considered something of an expert in the discipline. He won the IJC in 2016 as well as Ascot’s Shergar Cup in 2007 as captain of the Rest of the World team. He is also the only non-European rider to have twice won the illustrious Alistair Haggis Silver Saddle, awarded to the individual jockey with the most Shergar Cup points. “[IJC] is always a great spectacle, and it’s a great week of racing in Hong Kong with the International Races on the following Sunday,” Bowman said. “It’s always good to be a part of it.”

HK: Vincent Ho grateful for IJC chance

Vincent Ho’s return from injury was a monumental comeback on its own, but now the 35-year-old has earned the opportunity to try and win another International Jockeys’ Championship (IJC) at Happy Valley next Wednesday night. Ho suffered a serious head injury and neck fractures after he was unseated in February, requiring extensive rehabilitation. His testing journey saw him visit the Swiss Olympic Medical Centre, get reacquainted with horses again, before finally steeling himself for a return to competition in early September following the mishap at Sha Tin. “I wasn’t expecting something like this early in the season after seven months of rehab – coming back wasn’t easy. It took me a little bit of time,” Ho said. “I did a lot more work than before to get myself ready to race. To be able to ride winners now is lovely, and of course, I’m always thankful to Mr Fownes and Mr Lui for believing in me. I’m pleased with my results and proud of myself.” Caspar Fownes and Francis Lui are two of Ho’s biggest supporters. But during his time away, he found solace in an equine friend, former champion Golden Sixty (Medaglia D’Oro), who Ho partnered to 26 wins at Sha Tin – including a joint-Hong Kong record ten Group 1s. “He’s the only horse I trust 100 per cent. To have a horse to get on for the first time and to feel safe is important, coming back from a serious injury. Luckily, Northern Farm is close enough, and to get there quite frequently and easily is important,” Ho said. “I think this year’s line-up [for the IJC] is one of the best. Umberto [Rispoli], who has been away for a while … Christophe Lemaire is even coming back now, and it seems like Ryan [Moore] is getting back in time. It’s amazing. Mickael [Barzalona] is another amazing jockey. Being able to ride with them is a privilege."

UK: Yulong purchase Lowther winner Royal Fixation

Royal Fixation (Credit: Racing Post)

Lowther Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) winner Royal Fixation (Palace Pier) is set to join trainer Karl Burke after she was purchased privately by Yulong Investments. Trained this year by Ed Walker for Opulence Thoroughbreds, Royal Fixation was also successful on her debut and was placed in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) and the Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f). Confirming the purchase, Burke said: “Yulong have bought her and she’s a fantastic filly to be joining the team. She’s not with us yet but I understand she’ll be coming up in the next few weeks. We have a huge team of very nice horses here for next year and she’s now one of them, so you can only be looking forward to it.” Royal Fixation becomes the latest big-name recruit for Yuesheng Zhang’s Yulong Investments and adds to the strength in depth of Burke, who landed four Group 1s in 2025 and has sent out a personal best of 131 winners on the Flat in Britain.
