Timeform World Champion Miler Charyn (IRE) will stand his first Southern-hemisphere season this year at New Zealand’s world-renowned Cambridge Stud.

Charyn (Dark Angel) was crowned European Champion Older Horse of 2024 after creating history as the first to complete the prestigious treble of the Queen Anne Stakes (Gr 1, 1m, Royal Ascot), Prix Jacques le Marois (Gr 1, 1600m, Deauville) and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Gr 1, 1m, Ascot).

“The acquisition of Charyn for our stallion roster is the beginning of another exciting chapter for the stud and a very important relationship with Charyn’s owner Nurlan Bizakov,” Cambridge Stud owner Sir Brendan Lindsay said.

“His status as the highest-rated miler in the world of his year stamps him as an elite performer and we are excited to show him to the New Zealand industry.”

Charyn will stand for a fee of $35,000 + GST in 2026 and he is currently covering a second Northern-hemisphere book in Normandy for the Kazakhstan-born businessman. Bizakov named his French operation Sumbe after his birthplace and it consists of studs formerly known as Haras de Montfort et Preaux and the historic Haras du Mezeray.

What's On

Charyn is the highest earner by Dark Angel, a champion sire in Great Britain and Ireland whose influence is already being felt in Australasia through his successful sire son Harry Angel. On the dam side, he’s out of a stakes-performed mare Futoon (Kodiac) who has also produced high-class juvenile Wings Of War (Dark Angel), a winner of the Mill Reef Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at two.

Trained by Roger Varian, Charyn’s talent was evident from an early age, highlighted by victory in the Group 2 Critérium de Maisons-Laffitte (1200m) as a two-year-old. His championship season at four featured the celebrated Group 1 Mile treble that gained him a Timeform rating of 127.

“We are also looking forward to the relationship with Sumbe,” Lindsay continued.  “As we have found with Haras d’Etreham and Juddmonte, the stallion is important, but a lasting relationship with the Bizakov family, Tony Fry and the Sumbe team is just as important.

Nurlan Bizakov said Cambridge Stud was the perfect fit for Charyn and looked forward to a successful partnership with the iconic New Zealand nursery.  “I’m delighted and honoured to confirm the agreement with Cambridge Stud and I would like to warmly thank Sir Brendan Lindsay, Henry Plumptre and their entire team for their confidence in the stallion, as well as for their enthusiasm and support of Sumbe,” he said.

“Cambridge is a prestigious stud with a highly significant broodmare band, providing an outstanding platform to support a stallion of Charyn’s calibre. He will appeal to Southern Hemisphere breeders, thanks to his physical presence and athleticism, which he consistently passes on to his foals.”

Cambridge Stud CEO Henry Plumptre was over the moon to have secured the services of such a high-class individual. “Charyn’s three Group 1 victories against elite opposition, showcased his tactical speed and a great turn of foot.

“He distanced strong opposition in the Queen Anne and the Prix Jacques le Marois, but was tested in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, responding with great courage to draw clear.

“We have just spent two days in France with the Sumbe team and CEO Tony Fry. Charyn presents as a standout individual; strong, with good scope and quality. He is a particularly good mover and his athleticism is quite obvious.”

“We were delighted with him and the small sample of foals that we were shown at Sumbe.  They were a very even bunch, mostly between four and six weeks old, but already developing strong tops, good bone and their sire’s quality.

“Dark Angel continues to produce at the elite level in Europe, and the success of Harry Angel in Australia should give further confidence.  The fact that Dark Angel is achieving his best black-type results with Danzig, Danehill, Exceed And Excel a nd Gone West can only enhance his prospects.

“I’m confident that breeders in New Zealand and Australia will have no hesitation in supporting him when they see him.”

Sword of State’s (Snitzel)  first 2yo crop were highly anticipated following the 2025 yearling sales and his progeny have wasted no time delivering on that promise.

In Australia, high-class colt Warwoven captured the Pago Pago Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) while Torture triumphed in the Debutant Stakes (Listed, 1000m). In New Zealand, his early flagbearer has been Sistema Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) placegetter State of Valour.

Another strong showing for Sword of State’s progeny at the sales in 2026 was highlighted by the sale topping price of $1,100,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Book 1 Yearling Sale.  Those results have seen the son of Snitzel’s (Redoute’s Choice) fee increase to $50,000 + GST.

“It is unprecedented for a New Zealand-based stallion to sire two stakes-winning two-year-olds in Australia let alone from his first crop,” said Cambridge Stud Sales and Nominations Manager Scott Calder.

Charyn Queen Anne (Credit: supplied)

“Sword of State’s sale results over the last two years have been what you would expect from a horse standing at a much higher fee, and it is great to see that market confidence translate into results on the track.  We’re incredibly excited about him with a lot more coming through from that first crop.”

Chaldean,  the only Gr 1-winning 2yo by Frankel (Galileo) at stud in Australasia, will enter his third season in New Zealand at a fee of $35,000 + GST.

“The win by Sir Delius in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes was another reminder not only of Frankel’s prowess as a stallion, but also of his incredible record in Australia,” Calder said.  “Chaldean’s mix of pedigree and race record makes him an especially attractive stallion prospect.

The Dewhurst Stakes (Gr 1, 7f) and 2000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) winner was the leading first-crop sire at the weanling sales in Europe, with an average of 106,000 pounds (NZ$245,000) and Cambridge Stud is confident his southern hemisphere stock will make a similar impression.

“Henry was very impressed by his foals at the Tattersalls December Sale where they generated some exceptional results,” Calder said.  “I doubt many young stallions in New Zealand have received the calibre of mares he has in his first two crops and we expect the buying bench will be drawn to them here as well.

Almanzor (Wootton Bassett) will stand for $25,000 + GST after another successful season in which he sired five Group winners, headed by First Five who completed a Gr 1-winning sprint double in the BCD Sprint (Gr 1, 1200m) and Telegraph Stakes (Gr , 1200m).

On the world stage his star performer was Prix de Diane (French Oaks) (Gr 1, 2100m) and Gr 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (Gr 1, 1m 3f) winner Gezora. “Almanzor keeps showing that he is a dependable source of black-type winners, and adding a Gr.1 weight-for-age sprinter this season is another string to his bow,” Calder said.

“In the sale ring this year, he achieved a 100 per cent clearance rate for his 34 yearlings at Karaka, no mean feat for any stallion.  At that service fee, he offers breeders an appealing mix of racetrack credibility and commercial upside.”

Hello Youmzain (Kodiac) has sired four Stakes winners among 37 individual winners this season most recently when his two-year-old daughter Enchantment won the Welcome Stakes (Listed, 1000m) earlier this month. The French-bred multiple Gr.1-winning sprinter will stand for $20,000 + GST.

“Hello Youmzain has had a very productive season, and an impressive winners-to- runners strike rate is becoming a hallmark of his in both hemispheres,” Calder said.  “He has produced black-type-winning two and three-year-olds, and I’m looking forward to his first crop turning four, as that is when he reached his peak in the Gr 1 Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot.”

Embellish rounds out the roster for a $5,000 + GST fee.  A son of Savabeel (Zabeel) and his progeny continue to perform strongly on the track, with his domestic progeny this season highlighted by Lowland Stakes (Gr 2, 2100m) winner Ultimate Habit, while in Australia Kazaru won the Tasmanian Oaks (Listed, 2100m).

“If you are looking to breed a racehorse on a budget, Embellish does the job very well,” Calder said.  “From a low fee and with just over 100 runners, he’s already sired six stakes winners.  He also grabbed headlines at the sales when one of his daughters topped Book 2 at Karaka selling for $200,000 to Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young.”

Kingstar colt closes successful Inglis Yearling Sales Series

Lot 130: Home Affairs x Gwader Bay colt (Credit: Inglis)

Hunter Valley-based Kingstar Farm topped the Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale at Riverside Stables on Sunday, with colts by Artorius (Flying Artie) selling for $160,000 and Home Affairs (I Am Invincible) for $115,000.

Lot 71 the Artorius colt out of Azarose (Azamour) was purchased by Stefan Pardi and will be educated by Matt Vella, while Lot 130 the Home Affairs colt from Gwader Bay (Thronum) was knocked down to Victorian-based trainer and educator Tyler Aitken Bloodstock.

“We sold all eight lots and it’s handy for those yearlings that aren’t quite ready for the earlier sales and those that will be traded at the Ready2Race Sales,” Kingstar owner Matthew Sandblom said.  “The Artorius will go to Matt Vella and we bought Gwader Bay with a PPT to Home Affairs at the Magic Millions National Sale.”

Gwader Bay was purchased from Coolmore Stud for $110,000 and she is an unraced daughter of the Bart Cummings-trained Faint Perfume (Shamardal) who was Champion Australian 3yo Filly in 2009-10.  Her second-dam Danendri (Danehill) was Champion Australian 3yo Filly in 1996-97.

Kingstar Farm, no strangers to success at this sale having topped the vendor standings on multiple occasions, were again prominent in this year's renewal of the sale, finishing among the leading vendors with turnover of $447,500 and an average of $55,930 on Sunday. Pardi confirmed the Artorius colt will be re-offered at the Ready2Race Sale at Riverside on Thursday October 15.

“The hype around the Inglis Ready2Race Sale is already gaining huge momentum and I want to be involved as a vendor,” Pardi said. “There was a huge Asian and local presence last year at the sale and I think with Ka Ying Rising running in The Everest again this year just two days after the sale, there’s just going to be so many buyers at the sale and I think this colt will fit right in.

“He was the best colt on the grounds this week for me, he had real presence about him, yet there’s still so much room for improvement and I think over the next six months leading into the Inglis Ready2Race Sale, he will come on even more.’’

The HTBA Sale recorded figures of $3.53 million in turnover, down on last year with although with fewer horses offered, an average of $23,270 and $18,000 for the median, with the latter two stats both year-on-year increases.

Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch noted that the sale brought to a close what has been a hugely successful yearling sales series for Inglis.

“Turnover across our yearling sales this year is up over $8 million on 2025, which is very pleasing, particularly considering what has been going on in the world over the past couple of months.

“Our team has worked exceptionally hard to market all of our sales effectively and canvass buyers at all levels, ultimately with the objective of delivering a market leading service and achieve market leading results.

“To have sold over 1670 yearlings at a clearance rate of 83% across the series has the team understandably very proud. And we are hugely grateful for the support of breeders and vendors of our sales and similarly appreciative of the support of each of our sales by a huge range of buyers.

“To have buyers from Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand and then WA, SA, ACT, NSW, Queensland and Victoria all participate in the HTBA Sale was a reflection of the good work done by our team.

“The selectivity of the market has been a challenge throughout the sales year and is particularly pronounced at a sale like this, but we will continue to work constructively with vendors to identify ways in which we can develop our markets to facilitate improved returns.

“Finally, I must thank the committee of the HTBA and the members generally for the support of this sale and note that there is a shared belief that we can continue to progress this sale further in years to come.”

Strong catalogue unveiled for Magic Millions National Weanling Sale

Extreme Choice (Credit: Magic Millions)

The 2026 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale is set to once again showcase some of the Southern Hemisphere’s most sought-after young stock, with a strong catalogue unveiled ahead of next month’s Gold Coast auction.

Long regarded as a proven source of racetrack and sale-ring success, the sale has produced elite performers including Autumn Glow (The Autumn Sun), Zoustar (Northern Meteor), Pierro (Lonhro), Stay Inside (Extreme Choice), Ellsberg (Spill The Beans) and Tropical Squall (Prized Icon), reinforcing its reputation as a key marketplace for future stars.

A total of 354 lots, plus supplementaries, have been catalogued for the 2026 edition, which will be held on Sunday, May 24. The sale features progeny by 97 individual sires, including 18 first-season stallions, with leading vendors from across Australia set to offer a depth of quality.

Among the highlights is the only weanling by Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) in the Southern Hemisphere as lot 245, out of Boomstess (Spirit Of Boom) to be offered in 2026, alongside a strong representation of progeny by leading sires including Anamoe (Street Boss), Home Affairs (I Am Invincible), I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), Ole Kirk (Written Tycoon), Shinzo (Snitzel), Snitzel (Redoute's Choice) and Too Darn Hot (Dubawi).

The catalogue also boasts significant depth, with 83 lots out of stakes-performed mares and progeny from Group-winning mares such as Serious Speed (Royal Academy), Tycoon Tara (Written Tycoon), Wawail (Lonhro), Etana (Shamus Award) and Fasika (So You Think).

Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch noted the sale continues to set the benchmark for the weanling market.

"The National Weanling Sale is a clear market leader whichever way you look," Bowditch said. "From selling racetrack champions to pinhook sale ring stars, it's the sale that always delivers for buyers.”

"Our vendors have supported the sale with an outstanding line-up in 2026 and we can't wait to see what success stories will emerge from this year's auction," he said.

The sale also features a number of well-related youngsters, including close relations to Group winners such as Chain Of Lightning (Fighting Sun), Gypsy Goddess (Tarzino), Quackerjack (Not a Single Doubt) and Sun City (Zoustar).

Inspections will commence on May 20, with the sale to be conducted at the Gold Coast from 10am on May 24.

Alderson on cloud nine with Jigsaw

Jigsaw (Credit: Racing Photos)

Cindy Alderson has not come down from cloud nine after Jigsaw (Manhattan Rain) continued his extraordinary late-career resurgence with victory in the Quokka (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday, extending his winning streak to seven. The seven-year-old, trained by Cindy Alderson, has now won across three jurisdictions in the space of six months, including two Group 1 victories, with his latest success taking his seasonal earnings to $3.81 million. Breaking cleanly from a wide draw, Jigsaw crossed to lead under Logan Bates and held off a late challenge from Rey Magnerio (Magnus) to land the $5 million feature. “I keep running out of words, because there are no words to describe the ride we’ve been on. Just when you think it can’t get any better, it just seems to find a way to do it,” Alderson told Racing.com. “So, I feel incredibly fortunate to be in this position at this stage of my training career, to have a horse that’s done something truly remarkable. I was speaking with my father (champion trainer Colin Alderson), and he said soak it up, because it will never happen to you again. I think he’s right. I don’t know how many other horses who have done what he’s done, seven in a row as a seven-year-old.” Alderson was also quick to credit the stability of her team behind the gelding’s success. “It wouldn’t have happened without the team of people that I’ve got around supporting me,” she said. “It’s really hard sometimes, as a small trainer, to get that traction with your horses, and there’s always people that are attracted to the highlights of racing, and the Group 1s. “The group of people that have supported me and been with me, I don’t think there’s anyone there that’s not been there for a minimum of five years.”

Autumn Glow attracting Everest interest

Autumn Glow (The Autumn Sun) has emerged as a leading contender for the Everest (Gr 1, 1200m), with owner John Messara confirming the star mare is already attracting strong interest from slot-holders. Messara revealed multiple approaches have been made ahead of the $20 million feature at Randwick, although no decisions will be rushed as connections map out her spring campaign. "Autumn Glow is going to have a good spell over winter and then we can start looking at next season," Messara said. "There is plenty of time before we have to lock in a spring program. We will let the dust settle for now and then as we get closer to the spring I will sit down with Chris and consider all our options." The Chris Waller-trained mare won her first 11 starts, including Group 1 victories in the Epsom Handicap, Verry Elleegant Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) and George Ryder Stakes (Gr 1, 1500m), before suffering her first defeat when third in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m). Waller said the step up in distance was necessary to define her limits. "If we had not gone to 2000m she would still be winning," Waller said. "We needed to know where the ceiling was and unfortunately for the horse we found it. "But she will come back in the spring and be our trump card. She is a star." While the Everest (Gr 1, 1200m) looms as a key target, the King Charles III Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) also shapes as a viable option, with Autumn Glow’s ideal range considered to be between 1400m and a mile.

Adelaide start for Niance ahead of potential Brisbane raid

Niance (Swiss Ace) is set to resume in South Australia, with trainer Grahame Begg eyeing a potential interstate campaign for the lightly raced mare. The seven-time winner will kick off in the John Hawkes Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) at Morphettville on Saturday, with a lack of suitable sprint options in Victoria prompting the trip. "She had a little joint issue in the spring, so we had to back off her and give her time so it would all settle down," Begg said. "She's had a couple of jump-outs, so she'll go over there and I think she's ready for the 1100 metres.”
"The Sangster is on the same day and it's a bit hard running them in a Group 1 over 1200 metres first-up. That would be a bit of an ask for her," Begg said. Niance has not raced since finishing third in the Schillaci Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) at Caulfield in October and has been carefully managed this preparation. Begg said the mare would return to Cranbourne following Saturday’s run before connections decide on her next target, with Brisbane shaping as the preferred option. "The Goodwood is there, I guess, and we can always look at that, but it's very hard making two trips with them within a couple of weeks," he said. "There's a whole heap of races up in Brisbane that she could run in. "We can get her up there, settle her in and have a look as there is virtually a race every week for her."

Half Yours pleasing in return as Queensland campaign looms

Half Yours (Credit: Racing Photos)

Half Yours (St Jean) has returned in encouraging fashion, finishing ninth in the All Aged Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Randwick. The Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) and Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) winner made late ground behind Beiwacht (Bivouac), with jockey Jamie Melham pleased with the performance. “I’m very excited about his prep. He’s come back fantastic,” Melham told Racing.com. Trainer Tony McEvoy said the run was in line with expectations given the conditions. “He did all he could do against those in that ground. He needed soft ground to finish closer. He did a great job,” McEvoy said. “He’s been going well. We’ve been very pleased with him. We expected him to run a good race and he did that.” Half Yours will now head north, with the Hollindale Stakes (Gr 2, 1800m), Doomben Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) and Q22 (Gr 2, 2200m) shaping as key targets. It was a mixed day for the stable, with stablemate Ambassadorial (Fiorente) finishing well down the field in the Mornington Cup (Listed, 2400m). “He travelled nicely in the first bit, and we didn’t see what was coming as Harry (Coffey) said he was gone at the half mile,” McEvoy said.

Fireball win boosts appeal of dam ahead of Chairman’s Sale

Advance Party (Charge Forward), the dam of Fireball (Snitzel), has received a timely pedigree boost ahead of the Inglis Chairman’s Sale where she is catalogued as lot 28 of Newgate’s draft, following the colt’s victory in the Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Randwick. The son of Snitzel capped a standout juvenile campaign with a tenacious Group 1 win, having already claimed the Inglis Millennium (RL, 1100m) and competed across all three legs of the two-year-old Triple Crown. Fireball was purchased for $460,000 by James Harron Bloodstock and partners from the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. Fireball has now earned more than $2 million and established himself as one of the most versatile juveniles of his crop. For vendors, the result significantly enhances the commercial appeal of his dam, who is set to be offered at the Chairman’s Sale. “He dug so deep there at the end, I’m really proud of the horse,’’ Harron said. “He’s such a versatile horse and in today’s landscape, I think that’s what people want.” Trainer Chris Waller also praised the colt’s toughness. “Full credit to the horse because he's been able to deal with [a long preparation],” he said. Fireball has now won three of his six starts, adding valuable depth to his dam’s page ahead of her sale-ring appearance.

Waller, McDonald chase milestones in Adelaide features

James McDonald and Chris Waller will look to extend their dominant Group 1 run when they combine in two key features at Morphettville on Saturday. The leading jockey-trainer pairing will team up with Generosity (Divine Prophet) in the Robert Sangster Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) and Panova (Trapeze Artist) in the Australasian Oaks (Gr 1, 2000m), with both chasing significant milestones. McDonald is seeking his first Group 1 success in Adelaide, having already enjoyed a stellar season with 13 top-level wins, including ten during the Sydney autumn carnival. A win in either race would also edge Waller closer to 200 career Group 1 victories, with the champion trainer currently sitting on 198. Despite a standout carnival, McDonald remains mindful of missed opportunities, particularly Generosity’s (Divine Prophet) luckless fifth in the Galaxy (Gr 1, 1100m). "If there is one race that got away this autumn it was The Galaxy," McDonald said. "But Generosity is in career-best form and hopefully we can make amends on Saturday." Panova, a Group 3 winner in the Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) last spring, is expected to peak third-up. "Panova is very capable on her day but she has been half a run short each and every time," McDonald said. "But now she has basically caught up and is ready to peak now." Following Adelaide, McDonald will travel to Hong Kong for Champions Day, where he has three Group 1 rides.

Castle Rock on upward trajectory

Castle Rock (Fastnet Rock) could be set for a spring campaign in Australia after continuing his strong rise through the grades at Ellerslie. The Trelawney Stud homebred son of Fastnet Rock (Danehill) made it three wins in succession when taking out a 2100m contest on Saturday, having progressed rapidly from maiden company this preparation. Ridden positively by apprentice Tayla Mitchell, Castle Rock dictated terms in front and held off a late challenge to score narrowly. Trainer Chad Ormsby praised both the ride and the gelding’s development. “She got him pretty positive and allowed him to roll to the front and not be forced there, and didn’t fire him up,” Ormsby said. “A credit to her, she got him to switch off and he really just lobbed in front.” Ormsby said patience had been key to the gelding’s progression. “He has really come to it this year and a credit to the team at Trelawney,” he said. “They had to look after him with a few niggles when he was younger.” Castle Rock will now spell, with Ormsby optimistic about his future. “I can see him making top grade next prep and there might be a trip to Australia in the spring.”

Williams eyes Hong Kong Group 1 success with Cap Ferrat

Craig Williams will cap a busy interstate and international schedule when he heads to Hong Kong next weekend in search of Group 1 success aboard Cap Ferrat (Snitzel). Williams will ride a strong book at Morphettville on Saturday before travelling to Sha Tin for Champions Day, where he partners last year’s Hong Kong Derby (2000m) winner in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) on April 26. The son of Snitzel secured his lone career win in the Derby but has continued to perform competitively at the elite level, including recent efforts in the Chairman’s Trophy (Gr 2, 1600m) following a setback earlier in the season. Williams was quick to secure the ride after the gelding’s return. "His first up run last preparation was enormous and then all of a sudden, he'd come through with health issues, and then subsequently to see him back, I was taken and pleased by his first-up performance," he said. "I touched base when I flew back from Sydney on Sunday last week, I rang up Francis and said, 'Oh, how's Cap Ferrat? Where's he going?' He said, 'he's going to go to the Champions Day on the 26th.' I said, 'I'll be keen to ride him." "The next morning, I got a message to say that I was confirmed to ride him, and I was delighted to be re-associated with him." Williams said winning the Hong Kong Derby remains a standout career moment. "I spent three years riding in Hong Kong and the Derby is their biggest race and it's the equivalent to the Melbourne Cup. "To get the opportunity to ride Cap Ferrat and to win the race was really special." Williams will also ride Juneau Pride (Pride Of Dubai) and Ensued (Lemon Drop Kid) at the meeting.

Docklands targets Champions Mile breakthrough

Docklands (Massaat) will head to Hong Kong with a renewed focus as he lines up in the FWD Champions Mile (Gr 1, 1600m) at Sha Tin on April 26. Trainer Harry Eustace believes a change in approach could see the globetrotting miler reach a new level, with the race now the primary target rather than a stopover. “The interesting thing this time is that Hong Kong has always been on the way back from something else,” Eustace told Racing.com. “This is the first time it’s the whole point of the trip, so I hope that makes a difference.” The six-year-old arrives off a win in the Doncaster Mile (L, 1600m), his first run since a standout 2025 campaign that included a Group 1 victory in the Queen Anne Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Royal Ascot. “He’s come out of Doncaster really well,” Eustace said. “It was lovely to see him come back in as good order as ever and I haven’t had to do a great deal with him since.” Docklands has been a consistent performer at the top level, including a fourth placing in the Hong Kong Mile (Gr 1, 1600m) in December, and Eustace believes maturity has added versatility to his racing pattern. “Towards the end of last year he was finally running well,” he said. “People labelled him a straight-track horse, but he put in a really good run in the Hong Kong Mile and he’s becoming more adaptable with age.” “He was well beaten in Japan, but nothing really went right for him,” Eustace said. “He missed the start and had to make his run very wide. With a bit of racing luck, I think he’s got a genuine each-way chance.”
