Quarantine Diary

Day Two – Exercise For 11 Of The 12

The Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained Kaspersky (Footstepsinthesand) was the only inmate not to be ridden out.

International Racehorse Transport’s managing director Jim Paltridge told ANZ Bloodstock News yesterday afternoon that everything had gone smoothly, with each of the horses either doing one or two gentle canters.

“They all went out this afternoon except Kaspersky, who was just hand walked in the quarantine facility, having raced recently. The rest of them went out for just slow work on Side Hill and Warren Hill.

Paltridge reported that the Willie Mullins-trained Group One winner Wicklow Brave (Beat Hollow), who is being prepared for his second trip down to Australia and holds an entry for the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m), was in particularly good spirits.

“They have all settled in really well. Everything is great. Wicklow Brave, in particular, was feeling very well in himself and that was good to see.

“The ones from an Ireland had a briefer stint out this afternoon, with just a quiet ride and a nice walk out on The Heath and it was all very good, uneventful.

“They all had their initial veterinary checks on arrival, where they are all checked for ticks and the colts had the first of their CEM swabs taken and also bloods had bloods taken. They will all have some more bloods and nasal swabs taken on Monday,” Paltridge explained.

“They got fully checked over before quarantine started by the vet just to make sure there are no ticks and everything else was in order.”
