Following a blistering start to his stud career, Home Affairs (I Am Invincible) will head Coolmore
Australia’s roster for 2026 at a fee of $176,000 (all fees inc. GST).
The standout son of I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) has wasted no time making his mark with four
stakes-winning two-year-olds to date, including Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) hero Guest House. His
explosive start has firmly established Home Affairs as the hottest young stallion in the country.
What's On
“Home Affairs has made the perfect start to his career,” Coolmore’s nominations and sales manager
Colm Santry said.
“To produce a Golden Slipper-winning colt in his first crop is a remarkable achievement and speaks
volumes about what he is capable of.
“In doing so, he emulated great stallions like Danehill and Extreme Choice and looks like fulfilling
the lofty expectations that we’ve always had for him.”

In his introductory season in Australia, Super Seth (Dundeel) will stand for $137,500 following his
relocation from Waikato Stud, where he produced three Australian Group 1 winners from his first
crop.

A proven and versatile young sire, Super Seth has had yearlings sell for up to $950,000 in Australia
in 2026 and comes to the Hunter Valley after making a stronger start at stud than the likes of
Champion New Zealand stallions Zabeel (Sir Tristram) and his son Savabeel.
The son of Dundeel (High Chaparral) also enhanced his black-type strike-rate across the Tasman on
Saturday when his three-year-old filly Perlino won the Warstep Stakes (Listed, 2000m) at Riccarton.
A ninth individual stakes winner for her sire, she is raced by David Ellis and was a $120,000 NZB
Yearling Sale buy for the Te Akau principal at Karaka.

“We are delighted to offer a roster that combines elite, proven stallions with some of the most
exciting young sires in the market,” Santry added. “Not only do we have some of the best
up-and-coming Australian-bred stallions, our shuttle stallions on offer are also of the highest
quality.
“In addition to quality, we placed a strong emphasis on delivering value to breeders across the
entire roster.”
Among the second-season sires, City of Troy – the outstanding son of Justify (Scat Daddy) –
will remain at $49,500.
After strong first-season support, mares such as Coolangatta (Written Tycoon), Avantage (Fastnet
Rock), Piping Hot (More Than Ready), Sea Siren (Fastnet Rock), Pelican (Fastnet Rock) and Paris Dior
(Pierro) are due to foal down to him later in the year.

Fellow second-crop stallion Switzerland (Snitzel) has been adjusted to $55,000 (down from $60,500),
while Storm Boy (Justify) holds steady at $16,500. Written Tycoon’s (Iglesia) Caulfield Guineas (Gr
1, 1600m) winner Private Life will stand at $16,500, representing a slight reduction on his
introductory fee.
The regally bred Golden Slipper winner Shinzo (Snitzel) will stand at a slightly reduced fee of
$49,500 as his highly anticipated first foals head to the sales ring next month.
In addition to City Of Troy and the previously announced Delacroix (Dubawi) ($38,500), the shuttle
stallion contingent will yet again feature St Mark’s Basilica (Siyouni) at an unchanged fee of
$38,500. The champion son of Siyouni (Pivotal) has already produced unbeaten multiple stakes winner
Aristopolos from his first Australian crop.

Established proven sires Pierro (Lonhro) and Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) indicate incredible value,
both standing at the reduced fee of $22,000, while King’s Legacy (Redoute’s Choice) and Best Of
Bordeaux (Snitzel) will all be offered at $11,000.
Acrobat (Fastnet Rock) will command $8,800 with 90 first-crop two-year-olds to run for him including
Acrodance, who opened her account on debut at the Sunshine Coast for trainer Paul Shailer.
New Zealand-based Acrobat youngster King Of The Air also won at the first time of asking at New
Plymouth before he added black-type with a Group 3 placing in the Matamata Slipper Stakes (Gr 3,
1200m) for trainer Stephen Marsh.

Morning Briefing
Australia
Second for Trapeze Artist
Panova (3 f ex Love Me Quietly by Trusting) handed her Widden Stud sire Trapeze Artist
(Snitzel) his second individual Group 1 winner when she took out Saturday’s Australasian
Oaks (Gr 1, 2000m) at Morphettville. Bred by Scone trainer and breeder John Ramsey of
Turangga Farm, Panova was first bought by Ciaron Maher at Magic Millions Gold Coast from
Kenmore Lodge’s draft for $325,000. She was transferred to trainer Chris Waller after two
barrier trials and races in the colours of her sole owners, B2B Thoroughbreds. Panova is the
first foal out of Love Me Quietly (Trusting), a three-time winner and half-sister to Group 3
winner Charge (Zoustar). Panova’s third dam is Niagara Falls (Danehill), a triple stakes
winner who ran fourth in the Australasian Oaks of 2004. Love Me Quietly now has a weanling
colt by Ozzmosis (Zoustar) and was covered by Trapeze Artist again last spring. On the back
of Panova’s success, Widden announced that Trapeze Artist, the sire of 12 stakes winners
whose four-year-old gelding Big Swinger also struck at Flemington on Saturday, will stand
the 2026 season for $27,500 (inc. GST.)
First for Wordsmith
Geegees Mistruth’s (4 m ex Miss Mana by Jetball) fairytale Robert Sangster Stakes (Gr 1,
1200m) victory at Morphettville on Saturday provided her Tasmanian sire Wordsmith (Testa
Rossa) with his first Group 1 winner. Bred by the late Paul Geard and his wife Elizabeth,
Geegees Mistruth is the fourth foal out of Miss Mana (Jetball), who was unplaced in seven
starts and changed hands for just $250 at the 2013 Inglis Great Southern Sale. All four of
Miss Mana’s runners – all by Wordsmith – have been winners, the first two in metro Tasmanian
class, while the latest, Geegees Missile, has been Listed-placed. She now has a gelded
yearling and weanling filly, also by Wordsmith, and was one of the three mares covered by
the stallion last spring. The 22-year-old son of Testa Rossa (Perugino) – whose sole stakes
win came in the 2007 The Debonair (Gr 3, 1200m) – has sired eight stakes winners from 280
runners at 2.8 per cent. Seven of them have borne the “Gee Gee” title, and Geegees Mistruth
is the only one to win above Tasmanian Listed grade. Now serving under a fee-on-arrangement
basis, Wordsmith’s fee peaked at $5,500 last decade.
Zousain filly Verzain lands Breeders Stakes
Verzain (Credit: Makoto Kaneko)
Verzain (2 f Zousain – Written Verse by Written Tycoon) continued her rapid rise through the
juvenile ranks when landing Saturday’s Breeders’ Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Morphettville.
The Phillip Stokes-trained filly arrived off a win in the Without Fear Stakes (Listed,
1050m) and made it back-to-back black-type victories with a professional performance under a
tactful ride by Harry Coffey.
Despite being a touch restless pre-race, she settled just behind the speed before quickening
strongly to take control inside the final furlong and draw clear to score by 1.5 lengths
over Wonderful Sky (Ole Kirk), with Vandaross (Anders) the same margin further back in
third.
“Full credit to the team. She’s a tough little filly,” Stokes said. “She put on a bit of a
show before the race, but once she got out there she did everything right. There was good
speed which helped her run the 1200 metres strongly and she’s done a good job this
preparation.
“She's a valuable filly now with a couple of stakes wins, so we'll have to think about what
we do next. There is another stakes race in a couple of weeks, but she’s been in work for a
while, so she'd want to be pulling up well.”
A $40,000 purchase from the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale Book 2 by Mick Malone
Bloodstock, Verzain has already more than recouped her purchase price, with earnings now
exceeding $200,000 from just four starts.
Bred by Jen Campin Bloodstock, she is the first foal from the placed Written Tycoon
(Iglesia) mare Written Verse and hails from the family of dual Group 1 winner and champion
sire Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt).
Written Verse has since produced a yearling colt by In The Congo (Snitzel) and a colt by
Wyndspelle (Iffraaj) last spring.
33 for Shamus Award
Impulsive Reaction (3 g ex Impulsive Liaison by Savabeel) strengthened his South Australian
Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) claims with a composed performance when landing Saturday’s Chairman’s
Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) at Morphettville. Prepared by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, the
gelding was ridden by Zac Lloyd on his first race ride in South Australia and settled toward
the rear before saving ground along the inside in the straight. He surged through late to
overhaul Flying Brant (Flying Artie) inside the final 50 metres and score by 0.7 lengths,
with Boomeroo (Wootton Bassett) finishing fast into second and the early leader holding on
for third. The win continued on an upward trajectory for the son of Shamus Award (Snitzel)
who was bringing up his second win from just four starts and shapes as a genuine staying
prospect heading into next week’s $1 million South Australian Derby. Lloyd noted the
gelding’s relaxed racing pattern and ability to quicken when required, traits that should
prove valuable over further. Bred by Barree Stud, Impulsive Reaction is the lone winner and
stakes winner from the unraced Savabeel (Zabeel) mare Impulsive Liaison, herself out of the
stakes-placed Impulsive Dream (Encosta de Lago). The pedigree traces back to a deep
international family featuring Group 1 winners McGaw (I Am Immortal), Contessa Vanessa
(Bullbars) and Shuffle Dancer (I Am Invincible). The result provided a further boost for
Rosemont Stud’s Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) winner Shamus Award, with Impulsive Reaction
becoming his 33rd individual stakes winner.
80 for Zoustar
The Hawkes team claimed a fitting victory in the John Hawkes Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) at
Morphettville as Grand Larceny (5 g ex Sin Sin Sin by Fantastic Light) produced a strong
first-up performance to land the Group 3 contest. Sent off favourite, the Ben Melham-ridden
gelding settled off the speed before finishing best to defeat Watchme Win (Harry Angel) by
0.9 lengths, with New York Lustre (Manhattan Rain) third. Grand Larceny, an $800,000 Magic
Millions purchase from Kitchwin Hills, is a half-brother to Everest (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Yes
Yes Yes (Rubick) and has been given time to mature by his trainers, with the decision to
geld the well-related galloper now paying off. Out of the Fantastic Light (Rahy) mare Sin
Sin Sin, he is one of multiple winners from the family that includes and Group 1-winning
sprinter In Her Time (Time Thief) and is beginning to build a record to match his pedigree –
now boasting six wins and four placings from 14 starts and prize money beyond $400,000.
Further improvement is expected as he progresses through the preparation, with The Goodwood
(Gr 1, 1200m) under consideration for his next start. The result provided a milestone 80th
individual stakes winner for Widden Stud’s champion sire Zoustar (Northern Meteor), with his
2026 service fee yet to be announced.
51 for Toronado
Silvasista (3 f ex Silver Tiara by Ferocity) relished the rise to 2800 metres to record an
impressive victory in the VRC St Leger (Listed, 2800m) at Flemington on Saturday, surging
clear under Luke Currie to score by 3.5 lengths from Merchant (Merchant Navy), with Chillies
(Too Darn Hot) further back in third. Trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, the filly had
hinted at staying potential with a last-start win over 2200 metres at Donald. “She's a
lovely filly but we weren't sure whether she would stay [2800 metres] on her pedigree being
by Toronado,” Calvin McEvoy said. She put up a great run behind Salty Pearl over a mile and
then went to Adelaide and disappointed us. We brought her back in class and she won over
2200 metres at Donald and looked near the end of it, but we wanted to test her here over the
distance with a view to the 2500-metre fillies race [SA Fillies Classic (Gr 3, 2500m)] in a
couple of weeks. The way she won, it was a beautiful ride from Luke and it could not have
worked out any better.” Silvasista’s victory provided Swettenham Stud sire Toronado (High
Chaparral) with his 51st individual stakes winner. The son of High Chaparral (Sadler’s
Wells) will stand the upcoming season at $88,000 (inc GST).
Bangkok Hottie set for spell ahead of Princess Series
Progressive juvenile Bangkok Hottie (Too Darn Hot) enhanced her spring credentials with an
authoritative victory in the HMAS Sydney Handicap (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday. Trained
by David Payne, the Too Darn Hot (Dubawi) filly has now won two of her three starts and will
head to the paddock with lofty targets ahead, after connections elected to give her one more
run in search of additional prize money. Payne said: “I was going to put her out and John
[Thompson, owner-breeder] said to me, ‘David, give her another run. Try to get some more
stakes.’ She can go out now, she’s a very good filly. The Princess Series for the fillies
will be the goal, she’ll get a mile on her ear. Nobody wanted to ride her today, they will
all be wanting to ride her now. She’s special, she’s bombproof too and she’s got a turn of
foot. We don’t get many horses, we’ve only got twenty, so now we can at least take them on
again.” The four-race Princess Series kicks off in August with the Silver Shadow Stakes (Gr
2, 1200m) and culminates with the Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m), providing a clear spring
pathway for the progressive filly.
Gosford Cup looms for improving Rotagilla after Randwick win
Rotagilla (All Too Hard) continued his progression with a strong-finishing victory in
Saturday’s ANZAC Day Cup (1800m) at Randwick. The Chris Waller-trained gelding overcame an
awkward start to score by 0.5 lengths over stablemate Sir Dinadan (Camelot), with Polymnia
(Dundeel) a short neck away in third. Ridden by Tyler Schiller, the son of All Too Hard
(Casino Prince) benefitted from a genuine tempo and charged home down the outside to record
his sixth win from 17 starts. "It obviously wasn't the plan to be so neutral and negative on
him, but they jumped quick around us and I thought, on a turn if we're pushing we're going
to be using a lot of energy…He's come through and won like a really nice horse late. The
tempo helped him. He's a progressive horse." Schiller said. Assistant trainer Charlie
Duckworth indicated the Gosford Gold Cup (Listed, 2100m) on May 9 is a likely next target,
adding: “He is tough and consistent… we thought he was more one-paced, but he seems to have
that turn of foot and a willingness to win.” An $85,000 Inglis Classic purchase who later
realised $100,000 through the Ready2Race Sale, Rotagilla has now banked more than $500,000
in prize money, with further improvement expected as he steps up in trip.
Lees in a quandary after Cantiamo win
Three-year-old Too Darn Hot (Dubawi) filly Cantiamo enhanced her growing record with a
determined victory at Randwick on Saturday, overcoming a testing passage to land the card’s
Benchmark 78 Handicap (1200m) and press her claims for a return to stakes company. The Kris
Lees-trained filly was held up for much of the straight before finding clear air inside the
final 100 metres, finishing strongly under Jason Collett to score by a narrow margin over $3
million Inglis Easter purchase Ernaux (I Am Invincible) – the highest-priced progeny of her
sire out of Group 1-winning mare Booker (Written Tycoon) – with Spice Baby (Tassort) a short
head away in third. Now the winner of four of her eight starts, Cantiamo has already proven
competitive at Group level, finishing within two lengths of the winner in the P J Bell
Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at her previous outing. “It was a good win,” Lees said. “I didn't think
she was going to win at the furlong but she got a lovely run through and got there on the
line. It’s good to get a Saturday win with her. She’s a really nice filly.” Originally
targeting the Denise’s Joy Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Scone, Lees indicated plans are now
less certain. “Going into the race, we were thinking of going back to 1100 metres… so we’ll
just have to have a chat with Jason and see which path we take. She is certainly up to
stakes company.”
27 for Playing God
Playing God (Credit: Darling View Thoroughbreds)
Champion WA sire Playing God (Blackfriars) added another notch to his recent success when
the Luke Fernie-trained mare Rissoles (5 m ex Snitz 'n' Giggles by Snitzel) won the Sheila
Gwynne Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Ascot on Saturday. The five-year-old became the 27th
individual stakes winner by the Darling View Thoroughbreds stallion – and his third this
month following victories by Rope Them In (Roma Cup) and Wonderfully Made (WA Oaks).
“Rissoles likes her races spaced and deserved some black-type for her owner Eddie Rigg,”
Fernie said. Rissoles is a Rangeview Stud graduate and was an $85,000 purchase for Rigg at
the 2022 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale. He bought her in partnership with Kevin
Johnston and Simon Lill and she had been working up to the Anzac Day win following victories
in the Epona Classic (1200m) and the last two renewals of the Pearl Classic (1200m) at
Pinjarra. Playing God sired her from Snitz 'N' Giggles (Snitzel) and the mare’s Playing God
yearling colt made $75,000 to the bid of Noel Carter (Commercial Bloodstock) at this year’s
Perth Magic Millions. Their dam is half-sister to MVRC Carlyon Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner
Acromantula (Written Tycoon) and second-dam For Your Eyes Only (Bletchley Park) was also a
three-time Listed winner. Playing God sired the first-leg of a winning double at Ascot with
Black Ora in the RSLWA Trophy (1000m). She represents the Playing God cross with Oratorio
(Stravinsky) and their winning strike-rate is in the stratosphere at 86 per cent, led by
Group 1 winner Bustler and Group 2 victor Ex Sport Man.
Six for Ace High
Blind Raise (2 g ex Away Cruising by Darci Brahma) gave his Rich Hill Stud sire Ace High
(High Chaparral) a sixth individual stakes success when maintaining his unbeaten record with
victory in the ANZAC Day Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Flemington on Saturday. Trained by Trent
Busuttin and Natalie Young, the progressive gelding showed professionalism beyond his
experience, settling comfortably before asserting in the straight to score decisively. A
$70,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase, Blind Raise has already more than justified that investment,
with his prize money climbing beyond $140,000 after just two starts. He becomes a key
performer for Ace High, whose stakes winners include Group 1 scorers Molly Bloom and She’s A
Dealer. Bred on a strong New Zealand female line, Blind Raise is out of Away Cruising, a
Darci Brahma (Danehill) mare from the family of champion Seachange (Cape Cross), a multiple
Group 1-winning sprinter and Horse of the Year. Ace High stood the 2025 season at a
competitive fee of NZ$15,000 + GST, with his 2026 fee yet to be announced.
Brisbane calling for Blind Raise after Listed success
Blind Raise (Credit: Bruno Cannatelli)
Plans are in place for a Queensland campaign with unbeaten juvenile Blind Raise following
his dominant victory in the Listed ANZAC Day Stakes at Flemington. Sent out a well-supported
favourite on Saturday, Blind Raise travelled comfortably before asserting at the 300 metres
and powering clear to score by two lengths, providing the stable with its second win in the
race in the past three years, following Epimeles (Dundeel) in 2024, and confirming the
impression of his debut success. Co-trainer Trent Busuttin indicated the BRC Sires’ Produce
Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) and the J J Atkins Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) are now firmly on the agenda,
keen to capitalise on the gelding’s current form rather than delay for a later campaign.
“Plenty of things can go wrong between now and when they turn three and that’s why we want
to go to Brisbane,” Busuttin said. “When Epimeles won this race, we said we'd spell and go
for the spring, but things haven't stopped going wrong with him ever since. For this bloke,
there's two one-million-dollar races up in Queensland and I might even get a trip up there.
He did it pretty impressively and the market said he would and you always want to see them
do it, especially at their second start. He’s taken that next step, and he’s done it pretty
easily, although he floated out in front by himself a bit, but it’s good to get the job
done.”
32 for Spirit Of Boom
Boomelli (2 f ex Foxarelli by Foxwedge) became individual stakes winner number 32 for her
sire Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo) when taking out the Calaway Gal (Listed, 1200m) with a strong
performance at Eagle Farm on Saturday, continuing her sire’s excellent record with juvenile
fillies. Trained by Tony Gollan, the filly jumped from an inside draw and settled in a
perfect position just behind the speed before Ben Thompson drove her through along the rail
in the straight to take control and pull clear to score by 1.7 lengths over Auric Star (Star
Turn), with The Autumn Affair (The Autumn Sun) third. The win marked her third success from
five starts and confirmed her consistency, having been narrowly beaten at her previous
outing at Toowoomba. A $160,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Book 2 purchase, she is out of
Foxarelli (Foxwedge) who has produced three winners from three to race, from a family
featuring multiple winners including Sono Pronto (Better Than Ready) and Spirit Fox (Spirit
Of Boom). Spirit Of Boom continues his legacy at his home base of Eureka Stud, where he has
established himself as a reliable source of speed and precocity.
31 for Capitalist
Akaysha (3 f ex Zingaling by Redoute's Choice) delivered a deserved breakthrough at stakes
level when taking out Saturday’s Mick Dittman Plate (Listed, 1000m) at Eagle Farm. The Peter
Snowden-trained filly has been a model of consistency against quality opposition and her
latest success took her record to over $400,000 in earnings. She is out of Zingaling, a
Group 3-winning daughter of Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) who has proven a highly effective
producer, also responsible for stakes-winner Ka Bling (Capitalist) among six other winners.
Akaysha became the 31st individual stakes winner for Golden Slipper winner Capitalist
(Written Tycoon) who stands at Newgate Farm, his 2026 service fee announced at an unchanged
$44,000 (inc. GST).
Spicy Lu lands third stakes win at Eagle Farm
Spicy Lu (3 f Tagaloa – All Salsa by Charge Forward) added to her impressive record when
bouncing back to form to land Saturday’s Princess Stakes (Listed, 1600m) at Eagle Farm, the
third black type win of her career. The Nick Olive-trained filly adopted front-running
tactics under Coriah Keatings, setting a strong tempo and opening up a five-length margin
approaching the home turn before holding on gamely in the straight to score by 0.3 lengths
over She Moves Too (Zousain), with Nightline (Redwood) third. Already a winner of the
Ethereal Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) in the spring and successful in the Fernhill Mile (Listed,
1600m) as a juvenile, Spicy Lu has now won five of her 13 starts and amassed more than
$450,000 in prize money from a purchase price of $30,000 at Magic Millions Book 2. She is
the standout of three winners from All Salsa, a city-winning daughter of Charge Forward (Red
Ransom) from an international family tracing back to champion European three-year-old filly
Salsabil (Sadler’s Wells). She is one of ten stakes performers for Yulong sire Tagaloa (Lord
Kanaloa),who is enjoying a solid season highlighted by his tough Group 2-winning filly Salty
Pearl, who has finished third and fifth at Group 1 level in her past two starts and pushed
her earnings to just shy of $1 million.
11 for Vadamos
Kronenbourg (Credit: Grant Peters)
Kronenbourg (7 g ex Angel Child by Anabaa) produced a major upset to give former shuttle
sire Vadamos (Monsun) his 11th individual stakes winner – and third in Australia – when
leading throughout in the Brisbane Handicap (Listed, 1600m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Trained by Tony Gollan, the veteran gelding defied his $91 starting price and a wide draw to
press forward early under Emily Lang, taking up the running inside the first 400 metres
before dictating throughout and digging deep in the straight to hold off the favourite Cote
Atlantique (Kodiac) by 0.8 lengths, with Victoria Road (Saxon Warrior) third. The win,
Gollan’s fifth on the card, marked a return to form for the seven-year-old, who had been
unplaced in his four previous starts, and took his record to ten wins from 32 outings. The
winner was a $45,000 purchase from Karaka Book 1 from the draft of Wentwood Grange.

Nine for Super Seth
Coolmore sire Super Seth (Dundeel) recorded his ninth individual stakes winner when
progressive filly Perlino (3 f ex Palomino by Exceed And Excel) proved too strong in
Saturday’s Warstep Stakes (Listed, 2000m) at Riccarton. Trained by Te Akau Racing’s Mark
Walker and Sam Bergerson, the filly delivered a polished staying performance, settling
beyond midfield before surging clear once into the open to score by 1.5 lengths under Bruno
Queiroz. The victory followed a placing in the NZB Insurance Stakes (Listed, 1600m) and
confirmed the filly’s progression as she stepped out to 2000 metres, overcoming a checkered
run when briefly held up before producing a decisive turn of foot. A $120,000 Karaka Book 1
purchase from the Curraghmore draft, Perlino is the standout of two winners from Palomino,
an Exceed And Excel (Danehill) mare from a deep family that includes Group 1 winners
Criterion (Sebring), Comin’ Through (Fastnet Rock) and Charm Stone (I Am Invincible). Super
Seth, the Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m)-winning son of Dundeel (High Chaparral), has made
an encouraging start at stud and now stands at Coolmore Australia after beginning his career
at Waikato Stud, with Perlino adding further momentum as his ninth stakes winner. He will
stand the upcoming season at a fee of $137,500 (inc. GST).
12 for Hello Youmzain
Hello Youmzain (Kodiac) was handed his 12th individual stakes winner when progressive filly
Drops Of God (3 f ex Distinctive Lass by Orientate) landed the Cambridge Breeders' Stakes
(Gr 3, 1200m) at Te Rapa on Saturday. Trained by Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson, the filly
made full use of an aggressive ride from Craig Grylls, pressing forward from a wide draw to
take control early before dictating terms and extending clear to score by 2.5 lengths over
Platinum Pantheon (Hanseatic), with Little Black Dress (Snitzel) a nose away in third.
Already a winner of two of her first three starts, including a placing in the Almanzor
Trophy (Gr 3, 1200m), Drops Of God relished the freshen-up and confirmed her class with a
polished performance. Bred by Nearco Stud and raced in partnership, she is one of five
stakes winners from the outstanding producer Distinctive Lass (Orientate), whose progeny
also include Group 1 winner Kahma Lass (Darci Brahma) alongside Listed winners Kuro
(Denman), Southern Lad (Ocean Park) and Distinctive Darci (Darci Brahma). Hello Youmzain
will serve the upcoming season at Cambridge Stud for a fee of NZ$20,000 (plus GST).
12 for Ghibellines
The late Ghibellines (Shamardal) also welcomed his 12th individual stakes winner when Bauble
(7 g ex La Gem by Seasoned Star) produced a powerful late surge to capture the Canterbury
Gold Cup (Gr 3, 2000m) at Riccarton. Trained by Brian and Shane Anderton, the veteran
gelding defied outsider status to come from near last at the 600 metres, sweeping down the
outside under Courtney Barnes to prevail in a blanket finish over Matscot (Haradasun), with
Loose Sally (Turn Me Loose) close up in third. The performance marked a career-best result
for the seven-year-old, who relished the strong tempo and extended run to the line, taking
his record to eight wins from 35 starts and further rewarding the patience of his
connections. Bred and raced by the Anderton family, Bauble is out of La Gem (Seasoned Star)
and carries the colours of White Robe Lodge, with the result forming part of a memorable day
for the stable. Ghibellines passed away in 2025.
14 for El Roca
Westbury Stud sire El Roca (Fastnet Rock) added a 14th individual stakes winner to his
record as in-form gelding Atmospheric (4 g ex Lunaris by Redwood) broke through for a
deserved black-type success in the ANZAC Handicap (Listed, 1600m) at Otaki. Trained by
Kurtis Pertab, the gelding had been knocking on the door and produced a solid performance
from his inside draw, recovering after only a fair start to settle in the trail before
angling into the clear turning for home and quickly asserting, holding off a late challenge
from Freddie Time (Time Test) to score by 1.8 lengths, with Enrico (El Roca) in third. The
win followed a series of consistent efforts, including a last-start victory at Ellerslie and
a competitive showing at Group level last season, and confirmed the four-year-old’s steady
progression, taking his record to four wins from 16 starts. Pertab was pleased to see the
gelding secure a stakes result, noting he had always shown ability and appreciated being
ridden more positively than usual, while also indicating future plans would be guided by how
he comes through the run and suitable track conditions. Atmospheric was purchased for
$45,000 from the Ready To Run Sale and is out of Lunaris (Redwood). El Roca stood the 2025
season at a fee of $10,000 (plus GST).

HK: Ka Ying Rising targets career-high mark as global sprint rankings debated
Ka Ying Rising (Credit: HKJC)
Hong Kong superstar Ka Ying Rising (Shamexpress) is already recognised as the world’s
leading sprinter, but a dominant showing in Sunday’s Chairman’s Sprint Prize (Gr 1, 1200m)
could see him edge closer to modern great Black Caviar (Bel Esprit) on the international
ratings scale. Currently rated 128, Ka Ying Rising sits alongside champion Japanese sprinter
Lord Kanaloa (King Kamehameha) and just below the undefeated Black Caviar’s career peak of
132. His recent track record-breaking win at Sha Tin has yet to be factored into official
rankings, with an updated set due for release in May. Greg Carpenter, co-chair of the
LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings Committee, expects the gelding to reach a new
career high. “I’m reasonably confident you will see a career-best rating after FWD Champions
Day,” Carpenter said. “Last start he gave weight, broke the track record and still had the
biggest winning margin of his career.” Trainer David Hayes reported the sprinter to be in
peak condition ahead of his title defence, having produced a sharp final gallop in the
lead-up. Carpenter believes Ka Ying Rising is still underrated on the global stage, noting
his rising international profile since victory in The Everest (Gr 1, 1200m) last October.
“He’s the highest-rated Hong Kong horse we’ve had, but I still think he’s undervalued,” he
said. Victory on Sunday would extend Ka Ying Rising’s winning streak to 20 and further
strengthen his case among the elite sprinters of the modern era.
HK: Moreira predicts June Take will play pivotal role in QEII Cup
Four-time Hong Kong champion jockey Joao Moreira believes Japanese raider June Take (Kizuna)
can play a major role in Sunday’s QEII Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) at Sha Tin. Back in Hong Kong on a
short-term licence, Moreira will partner his first Group 1 rides since returning, including
the Kyoto Kinen (Gr 2, 2200m) winner, who lines up in a high-quality field featuring the
likes of Romantic Warrior (Acclamation) and Masquerade Ball (Duramente). “I have no doubt he
could be a player,” Moreira said. “He’s going to have to come to another level to beat the
top horses, but I’m riding him with full faith.” June Take has pleased in trackwork this
week, despite a minor concern following a gallop that led to a veterinary inspection. The
gelding was subsequently cleared to race, with Moreira attributing the incident to
inexperience in a new environment. “He seems to need company and was a bit hesitant on his
own, but he pulled up fine,” he said. While stablemate Masquerade Ball shapes as Japan’s
leading hope, Moreira believes June Take warrants respect given his Group 2 success in a
competitive jurisdiction. “It’s a very strong race, but if things go our way, he can be
right there,” he said.
HK: Newnham confident of duo ahead of the Champions Mile
Trainer Mark Newnham is set to launch a two-pronged attack on Sunday’s Champions Mile (Gr 1,
1600m), with My Wish (Flying Artie) and Invincible Ibis (Hellbent) both primed to run strong
races. Invincible Ibis will attempt to complete a rare Hong Kong Derby (Listed,
2000m)–Champions Mile double, stepping back in trip after his Classic success, while My Wish
chases a deserved breakthrough at the top level following a string of consistent Group 1
performances. “The preparations of both horses have been very smooth,” Newnham said.
“Invincible Ibis has improved throughout the season, but this is a different challenge
against seasoned horses.” My Wish, runner-up in last year’s Derby, brings greater experience
to the contest and has impressed in his lead-up work under jockey Hugh Bowman. “He’s in
really good condition and very consistent. He should finish the race strongly,” Newnham
said. While the trainer noted there was little between the pair on ability, he acknowledged
My Wish’s added maturity could prove advantageous in a race of this depth. “It’s a great day
for the stable as both have realistic chances,” Newnham said.

144 for Sea The Stars
Gilltown Stud sire Sea The Stars (Cape Cross) added a 144th individual stakes winner to his
record as Raaheeb (3 c ex Aghareed by Kingmambo) produced a dominant display to land the
Classic Trial (Gr 3, 1m 2f) at Sandown on Friday. Trained by Owen Burrows, the progressive
colt travelled strongly off the pace under Rossa Ryan before asserting approaching the final
furlongs and powering clear to score by three and a quarter lengths over Al Zanati (Dubawi),
with Wise Prince (Ghaiyyath) a further length and a quarter away in third. Unbeaten in two
starts, Raaheeb built on the promise of his debut success with a polished performance that
marked him as a colt of considerable potential. Connections indicated he is still developing
mentally, but his natural ability and scope point to a bright future. Bred and raced by
Shadwell, Raaheeb boasts an exceptional pedigree as a full brother to multiple Group 1
winners Baaeed and Hukum, being out of blue hen producer and Listed-winning Kingmambo mare
Aghareed, a daughter of Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (Gr 1, 10f) heroine Lahudood
(Singspiel). Sea The Stars continues to enhance his reputation with elite performers across
all distances, and Raaheeb shapes as another top-class prospect from this outstanding
family.
UK: Ghaiyyath colt lands third straight Group win
Darley shuttler Ghaiyyath (Dubawi) continues to maintain his strong momentum, with Godolphin
colt Opera Ballo (4 c ex Dubai Opera by Invincible Spirit) producing a decisive all-the-way
performance to capture the bet365 Mile (Gr 2, 1m) at Sandown. Breaking sharply under William
Buick, the Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old was allowed to stride forward and dictate
throughout, absorbing pressure before asserting inside the final furlong to score by three
lengths over Classic winner Field Of Gold (Kingman), with the previously unbeaten Zeus
Olympios (Night Of Thunder) a further three-quarters of a length away in third. Carrying a
5lb penalty for his earlier Group 1 success at Meydan in January, Opera Ballo showcased both
tactical speed and sustained finishing power, reversing previous form with his key rivals
and confirming his development into a high-class miler. The performance marked a clear step
forward on his European return, having been beaten by the same opposition in the Craven
Stakes (Gr 3, 1m) and the Joel Stakes (Gr 2, 1m) last season.

Tassie longshot Geegees Mistruth stuns in Sangster thriller
Trevor Marshallsea
ANZ News
Geegees Mistruth (Credit: Makoto Kaneko)
An obscure backyard stallion from Tasmania and a broodmare bought for $250 now have elite success to
their name after four-year-old mare Geegees Mistruth (Wordsmith) claimed Saturday’s Robert Sangster
Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at Morphettville.
Bred by the late Paul Geard and his wife Elizabeth, the couple who made “Geegee” a Tasmanian racing
byword thanks to literally hundreds of horses bearing the name or its variants, Geegees Mistruth won
the Sangster in a breathtaking four-horse finish, by just millimetres.
It marked a long-awaited coronation for one of the finest horses produced by the island state in
modern times.
Geegees Mistruth won her first four Tasmanian starts for Hobart trainer Stuart Gandy, two in black
type company, earning a trip to the mainland. In Melbourne, she agonisingly notched three successive
stakes placings.
Two Tasmanian Group victories early in 2025 were followed by a transfer to Mark Walker at
Cranbourne, but more frustration followed. The mare’s first three runs for Walker from October to
January produced three more stakes placings, peppered with bad luck in running.
More agony came when she was left in the gates in the Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m) in
February.
After her fair seventh in Flemington’s Newmarket Handicap (Gr 1, 1200m) two starts back, Walker took
her to Ballarat earlier this month hoping for a confidence-boosting kill in the $300,000 Discovery
(1100m). But as $5.50 equal-favourite, Geegees Mistruth ran into the handy Spywire (Trapeze Artist),
finishing a 1.5-length second.
Finally on Saturday the stars aligned and Geegees Mistruth scored her first mainland victory, and at
the top level in a high quality field of sprinting mares.
Well ridden by Jordan Childs from gate five of 13, she was settled just worse than midfield,
avoiding the hustle and bustle of a cluster just ahead of her, as a brisk pace was set and key
fancies Bridal Waltz (Snitzel), Charm Stone (I Am Invincible) and Generosity (Divine Prophet) sat
second through fourth.
Geegees Mistruth moved into a three-wide running lane at the 600 metres and came six-deep around the
turn to set after the leaders, as Bridal Waltz and Charm Stone stormed to the front.
The race evolved into a frenetic finish with four mares heading to the line locked together, and it
was Geegees Mistruth who bobbed at the right time to score by just 0.03 lengths as the widest of the
quartet.
Bridal Waltz took second, 0.04 lengths ahead of her fellow $6.50 shot Charm Stone, with the
fast-finishing Flying For Fun (Spieth) 0.03 lengths away in fourth at $13.
“I wasn’t sure if we’d won,” an elated Childs said. “I was looking up to the (TV) drone to see where
it was going. It was pretty close to me but Mark Zahra (on Charm Stone) was there as well so I
wasn’t sure. But he said that I’d won.”
The $7.50 shot Point Barrow (Blue Point), like Flying For Fun coming from behind Geegees Mistruth on
the home turn, ran fifth, one spot ahead of $3.90 favourite Generosity.
Geegees Mistruth was largely unwanted in the betting, drifting from $26 to start at $31, summing up
one of Group 1 racing’s greatest modern tales of obscurity.
She’s by the Geard’s little known stallion Wordsmith (Testa Rossa) – little known outside of
Tasmania, that is. He has sired no fewer than 393 horses for the couple bearing the “Geegee” name,
or “Gee Gee”, “Gee Gees” etc.
Wordsmith, whose sole stakes win came in the VRC The Debonair (Gr 3, 1200m) in 2007, has sired eight
stakes winners from 280 runners, at 2.8 per cent. Seven of them have borne the “Gee Gee” title, and
Geegees Mistruth is the only one to win above Tasmanian Listed grade.
Now 22, Wordsmith was largely decommissioned as a commercial stallion some two years ago, though the
Australian Stud Book shows he covered ten mares over the past three years, under fee-on-arrangement.
His fee peaked at $5,500 last decade.
That hasn’t stopped him claiming what his owners will cherish as the jewel in his breeding crown,
from his most special of offspring in the Sangster.
On the female side, Geegees Mistruth is the fourth foal of Miss Mana (Jetball), who was unplaced in
seven starts in country Victoria, and who changed hands for just $250 at the Inglis Great Southern
Sale of 2013.
Miss Mana has built a decent record. All four of her runners – all by Wordsmith – have been winners,
the first two in metro Tasmanian class, while the latest, Geegees Missile, has been Listed-placed.
She now has a gelded yearling and weanling filly, also by Wordsmith, and was one of the three mares
covered by the stallion last spring.
None of this modest background mattered on the Group 1 stage on Saturday, with Walker’s assistant
trainer Ben Gleason ecstatic with the breakthrough and hugely value-boosting victory for Geegees
Mistruth, who’s still raced by Elizabeth Geard.
“
Her journey in the spring and the autumn sums up racing. There’s a lot of lows, but when the highs
happen they’re worth it
“We acquired her through some mutual friends, and we’ve got a great connection with that ownership
group,” Gleason said of Geegees Mistruth, who’s inbred 5m x 4f to Vain (Wilkes).
“We promised them we’d try and win a big one with her, and she’s had nothing but doors closed on her
with runs, and bad luck in the Oakleigh Plate.
“Her journey in the spring and the autumn sums up racing. There’s a lot of lows, but when the highs
happen they’re worth it.
“We took her to Ballarat, we thought we’d go there and knock over a win and get some prize money in
the bank, but she ran into another good one there, albeit that back to 1100 metres she wasn’t
suited.
“We just thought, ‘When are we going to get some luck with her?’ At least we got it when it counted
most.”
Gleeson said Geegees Mistruth had “got shuffled back a bit further than thought” on Saturday.
“She’s never had clear running for all the runs we’ve had her for really,” he told Racing.com. “But
she just peeled off their backs and I thought, ‘Here we go’.
“Credit to Jordy. He got his hands down on her neck and got the head down when it counted.”
Childs was delighted with his second top-tier victory, six years after the first with Written By
(Written Tycoon) in the Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m), and joked that he was now only 70 behind
his famous father Greg.
“I’ve had quite a few placings in between in big Group 1s,” he said. “I was hoping my second one
would come a bit sooner, but anyway, I’m still very grateful for the ride.”
After partnering Geegees Mistruth for the first time in a race, Childs said the oft-times uppity
sprinter felt in the right mood on Saturday.
“She’s a mare who can get quite up and about and do a few things wrong, but she was really relaxed
today,” he said. “She went down to the gates lovely and stood in there well.
“She began nicely. I just wanted to ride her where she was comfortable. I got on that three-wide
line. Once I presented her she quickened up well. We were getting challenged by the other horses,
but she was able to hold on. I’m rapt.”

Trapeze Artist announced at $27,500 after Panova delivers in Oaks
Trapeze Artist’s (Snitzel) 2026 fee was announced at $27,500 (inc GST) after the Widden Stud sire
notched his second elite-level winner on Saturday, with Panova landing the Australasian Oaks (Gr 1,
2000m) at Morphettville.
Thirty-five minutes after James McDonald rode his first Adelaide winner when Tycoon Star (Written
Tycoon) took the Tobin Bronze Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m), the gun jockey and his chief partner Chris
Waller teamed up for still more Group 1 success as Panova scored a decisive victory in the
2000-metre contest.
Panova (Credit: Makoto Kaneko)
Jumping from a tricky gate 13 of 16, McDonald was content to park three-wide with cover just worse
than midfield on Panova, who drifted to start at $11.
McDonald made his move on the outside of the field at the 600 metres, pleased to see $2.60 favourite
Getta Good Feeling (So You Think) and $6 shot Mating Call (Brazen Beau) to his inside facing traffic
in the middle of the pack.
And his theories proved prescient as Panova, chiming in as the deepest runner when six-wide on the
home turn, finished powerfully in the straight to score by a length, comfortably holding off the
closing burst of the Clarken-MacGillivray-trained Mating Call to her inside.
Ciaron Maher’s ex-New Zealander Paltrow Miss (Circus Maximus) was third 0.5 lengths further back at
$15, earning her first piece of black type, with Danny O’Brien’s Getta Good Feeling another 1.6
lengths away in fourth and $4.60 second elect Salty Pearl (Tagaloa) fifth.
Celebrating his 199th Group 1 success, Waller said Panova had managed to peak at the right time for
Saturday, following a moderate Sydney autumn comprising a sixth, a fifth and a seventh, after she’d
been battling for fitness after a setback.
“She took a while to get to full fitness,” the master trainer said. “We’ve just been behind the mark
with each run, but she showed us enough last start that she’s pretty close to being back to her
best, and she was back today.
“She had a temperature at the start of the autumn. You don’t want to push them, but as a result she
was a bit bigger. Once you get out of shape it’s hard to get back in shape, whether you’re a
racehorse or a person. We haven’t rushed her and she’s got here today.
“She’s caught up now and she’ll train on, and we might even go to the Queensland Oaks. She’s very
adaptable, and she’s a talented horse.”
While Panova would revert to her home town of Sydney’s clockwise racing if she attempted to become a
dual Oaks winner at Eagle Farm on June 6, Waller and McDonald agreed she seemed to far better racing
left-handed.
Although the filly became a black type winner in last October’s Reginald Allen Stakes (Listed,
1400m), Waller and McDonald felt her best effort was in her subsequent start at Flemington, with her
1.8-length victory in the Carbine Club Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m).
“I reckon she adapted to that [left-handed] really well,” said McDonald after extending his
Australian record number of Group 1 wins to 136.
“Her best performance has been in Melbourne. Not that she’s no good in Sydney but she’s excellent
the left-handed way.
“Once she landed in that spot today she was always going to be hard to beat. I had Getta Good
Feeling two lengths in front of me, Salty Pearl one length in front of me, all to my inside. If I
was travelling good enough they weren’t going to come out, so it worked out well.”
One of the biggest winners out of the race was Trapeze Artist, who covered 52 mares at Widden last
spring.
The rising 12-year-old son of Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) won his four Group 1s from 1200 to 1400
metres, but now has a 2000-metre elite winner to his name who joins Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m)
hero Griff as his second top-tier victor with four crops racing.
Trapeze Artist has 12 black type winners from 253 runners at 4.74 per cent, and in fact four of his
progeny have won stakes races at 1800 metres or further.
Bred by Scone trainer and breeder John Ramsey of Turangga Farm, Panova was first bought by Ciaron
Maher at Magic Millions Gold Coast from Kenmore Lodge’s draft for $325,000. She was transferred to
Waller after two barrier trials and races in the colours of her sole owners, B2B Thoroughbreds.
She’s the first foal out of Love Me Quietly (Trusting), a three-time winner up to a mile and herself
a half-sister to Melbourne Group 3 winner Charge (Zoustar).
Panova’s third dam is Niagara Falls (Danehill), a triple stakes winner who ran fourth in the
Australasian Oaks of 2004.
Love Me Quietly now has a weanling colt by Ozzmosis (Zoustar) and was covered by Trapeze Artist
again last spring.
Waller has now won the Australasian Oaks three times, after the earlier wins of Toffee Tongue
(Tavistock) in 2020 and Egg Tart (Sebring) three years prior.
Panova’s victory was the second Group 1 for the Surace family’s B2B Racing in less than two months,
after the Waller-trained four-year-old mare Lazzura (Snitzel) took Rosehill’s Coolmore Classic (Gr
1, 1500m).

Cilacap enhances broodmare value with Queen Of The South triumph
Four-year-old mare Cilacap (Written Tycoon) made herself even more precious than she already was by
ticking off another black type box at Morphettville on Saturday.
A winner in her first attempt at black type in February 2025 in Flemington’s Desirable Stakes
(Listed, 1400m), and then when stepping up one rung two starts later to take Moonee Valley’s
Alexandra Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m), the Grahame Begg-trained Cilacap continued that progression by
winning at the second tier in Saturday’s Queen Of The South Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m).
Solidly supported at $5.50, the mare jumped well from gate four of 17 to take up a forward position
under Jordan Childs, settling sixth one off the fence behind a solid pace.
Childs eased Cilacap into the clear rounding the home turn, and while there were plenty of rivals up
the running, she proved the toughest in the last 100 metres to score by 0.3 lengths.
Anthony and Sam Freedman’s Brave Miss (Rebel Raider) grabbed her first dash of black type in taking
second at $21, as did Team Hawkes’s Terrestar (Zoustar) in running third at $26, while favourite
Blindedbythelight (Shamus Award) looked disappointing in finishing eighth at $2.80.
Cilacap’s victory completed back-to-back wins in the Queen Of The South for the Begg-Childs
combination, successful in 2025 with Pinecliff Racing’s Zloties (Snitzel).
It also greatly boosted the breeding value of a mare who already counted as something rare and
special.
Her Group 1-placed dam Falkenberg (More Than Ready) – bred, like Cilacap, by Corumbene Stud – has
been covered nine times but has only got in-foal three times. Her compact brood comprises Cilacap,
her three-years-older half-sister Wingstofly (Not A Single Doubt), who was Sydney metro-placed amid
four non-winning starts, and the latest addition – a weanling colt by In The Congo (Snitzel).
The Begg stable was delighted with the victory, especially since Cilacap has been restricted to 12
starts due to various minor injuries, which also delayed her debut until she was a November
three-year-old.
“She’s an incredibly special mare for the whole team,” stable representative Rebecca Shanks said of
Cilacap, who was sent north from Begg’s Cranbourne base for two unplaced runs in Group 2 and Group 1
company in Sydney before a third in a Caulfield Listed two weeks ago.
“She’s incredibly tough, she’s come back from setback after setback, and it’s so exciting to get her
back here today. Her owners have been very patient.
“Grahame’s put in a beautiful training performance to send her to Sydney, get her back, keep her in
form and then travel her to Adelaide.
“She had that trip away to Sydney at the start of the campaign, but she’s a lovely relaxed type of
mare and handled it all in her stride. She presented beautifully today in the yard, and was
completely and utterly herself.
“Grahame’s very good at targeting these sorts of races and it’s great to get black type for these
mares.”
Cilacap, majority owned by Echo Beach Bloodstock, was being steered towards one of the highlights of
the corresponding meeting 12 months ago in the Australasian Oaks (Gr 1, 2000m) before an injury
which required nine months on the sidelines.
Shanks said it was uncertain whether Begg would continue with the mare for a sixth run of her
current campaign, or whether she’d be spelled before chasing more highlights in the spring.
“I don’t think Grahame necessarily had anything locked and loaded for her next start,” Shanks told
Racing.com. “She’s had a bit of a longer campaign now and she’s done a really good job so far. So
that’s up to Grahame and how she pulls up and travels home tomorrow.”
Childs paid tribute to Cilacap and her trainer after the victory.
“Grahame targeted this race last year with Zloties, and to come back and do it again with Cilacap is
great,” said Childs, who’s ridden Cilacap twice for her Group 2 and Group 3 wins.
“She’s had some little niggles, and obviously had an extended time off and her owners were nice and
patient and it’s allowed her to develop and grow and come back a really nice horse.”
He added: “I was very happy once we went 200 metres today. I ended up in a really good spot. She
relaxed really well underneath me and I was able to build into the race as I wanted.”
Bought from Corumbene’s draft at Inglis Easter 2023 by Bruce Elkington Bloodstock for $300,000,
Cilacap has ample class in her pedigree.
Her dam Falkenberg was a Sydney city winner who ran third in a Queensland Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m), and is
a full-sister to the outstanding sprinter and sire Sebring (More Than Ready), winner of the Golden
Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) - AJC Sires’ Produce (Gr 1, 1400m) double.
Falkenberg is also a half-sister to Group 2-winning gelding Pureness (Tale Of The Cat), while her
second dam was the mother of nine-time stakes winner Surtee (Memento).
Cilacap is one of 82 stakes winners worldwide for Yulong’s evergreen sire Written Tycoon (Iglesia).
The 23-year-old covered 43 mares under fee-on-arrangement conditions last spring.

Tycoon Star strengthens Group 1 claims with Tobin Bronze win
Written Tycoon had more Group success later on the Morphettville card, with Yulong colt Tycoon Star
looking set for a Group 1 tilt that could confirm his stud future after his most important
performance to date winning Saturday’s Tobin Bronze Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m).
A stakes winner twice before after taking Flemington’s Maribyrnong Plate (Gr 3, 1000m) on debut and
Caulfield’s McNeil Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at start number eight, the Team Hayes-trained Tycoon Star
took it up another notch with a tough and deserved victory in the Tobin Bronze at his 14th outing.
Tycoon Star (Credit: Makoto Kaneko)
Jumping from gate six of 15 for James McDonald, who broke his Adelaide duck with the win, the $4
second favourite was third early but was then forced to travel three-wide outside the well-fancied
leader Legacy Bound (Ole Kirk), a $5 equal second-favourite who set a moderate tempo.
But once the field had rounded the sole bend in the race, McDonald allowed Tycoon Star to stride to
the lead under a hold, and shaken up at the 200 metres, the colt strode away to seal the victory.
He had a length in hand on the line from Trent Edmonds’ fast-finishing Extragalactic (Deep Field) at
$5, the filly who flew from the back for her first slice of black type at start number six, while
Travis Doudle’s rank outsider Sir Myka (Doubtland) took third at $201, a further 0.6 lengths away.
After two narrow Listed seconds to start his current campaign, the win was a welcome Group 2
breakthrough for Tycoon Star, who was the major eye-catcher in last year’s Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr
1, 1200m) when third, and who also ran a solid sixth in the Coolmore Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) last
spring.
The colt’s talents were reflected last month when his full-brother sold for $1.3 million at Inglis
Easter, bought from Yulong’s draft by Ciaron Maher and David Redvers.
Co-trainer Will Hayes said another attempt at an all-important elite title would likely be made by
Tycoon Star in Adelaide’s feature sprint, The Goodwood (Gr 1, 1200m) in a fortnight, where he’d
carry only 54.5 kilograms under the set weights and penalties conditions.
“It’s certainly tempting,” Hayes told Racing.com. “We’ll be guided by how he pulls up but it’s been
a pretty good recipe in the past with a lot of [Goodwood] winners coming out of this race.”
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained colt Reserve Bank (Capitalist) set a very recent
template by winning the Tobin Bronze-Goodwood double last year, while Ciaron Maher’s filly Royal
Merchant (Merchant Navy) also achieved the feat in 2023.
Hayes said Tycoon Star had abundant ability but had “found a way to get beaten” in his past two
starts. A switch to visors had helped him on Saturday.
“He’s a very talented galloper, he’s just one of those horses who seems to find a way to get beat,
especially early in a prep,” Hayes said.
“But I can’t fault him today. He did it the hard way. After 200 metres, it looked like we were going
to get posted three wide. James didn’t panic. He sat there and the horse gave a good kick. He won
with authority today, which gives us confidence if we are to target a Group 1.”
Hayes added Tycoon Star had the right attitude to make it as a stallion.
“He can be a little bit tricky to manage in the mornings,” he said.
“He has his moments. He paraded beautifully today and didn’t put a foot wrong, but he can let you
know what’s between the back legs. But he’s certainly given a reason to keep him in a bit longer.”
Bred by the Iskander Racing Syndicate of NSW, Tycoon Star was bought by Yulong for $350,000 from
Milburn Creek’s draft at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale.
Yulong sold him to Lindsay Park at the following year’s MM Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $400,000 but
retained a share, with the colt carrying Zhang Yuesheng’s famed green and white colours.
Tycoon Star is the first foal of Miss Iano (Equiano), a city winner of eight races who was also
Group 3-placed. His $475,000 half-brother Marffiano (Home Affairs) is awaiting his first start for
Team Hayes.
After Miss Iano’s $1.3 million colt, a full-sister died after birth last year, and the mare was
covered again by Written Tycoon, who would sire his 18th individual Group 1 winner were Tycoon Star
to be successful in The Goodwood.
