Inglis Australian Weanling Sale
Shinzo filly takes centre stage at Inglis Foal Sale
A Shinzo filly took centre stage at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale on Monday, making $600,000 to the bid of SP Bloodstock principal Stefan Pardi.
Catalogued as Lot 43 for Noorilim Park, she was described as a ‘belter’ by the vendor and the buying bench agreed, racing past her reserve during the first hour of trade.
“She had over 190 inspections, 18 x-rays and quite a few vet inspections,” Noorilim Park owner Peter Carrick revealed.
“Her dam Special Lover has never let us down. We've broken a few records now and I did expect a strong result today. Hopefully, she holds out at the top of the sale.
“We put her on the market at $500,000 and I was taking her home to race if we didn’t get that, so $600,000 was a really good result. She was very busy pre-sale and I think that encouraged me to think we were going to do well.
“My son Glenn made the decision to send Special Lover to Shinzo. I've handed the reins over to him now and he's doing a great job. Don't ask me where she’s going this year. Glenn will sort that out but it will obviously be top-end.”
The $600,000 filly was a positive sale-ring start for Coolmore Stud sire Shinzo (Snitzel), who has 13 first-crop foals catalogued at Riverside Stables. The 2023 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner was an ideal cross over Special Lover (Pins), who descends from New Zealand icon Eight Carat (Pieces Of Eight).
“We put her on the market at $500,000 and I was taking her home to race if we didn’t get that, so $600,000 was a really good result. She was very busy pre-sale and I think that encouraged me to think we were going to do well
Her first filly Miss Roseiano (Exceed And Excel) won the 2022 MRC Blue Diamond Preview (Gr 3, 1000m) and was subsequently purchased by Tom Magnier for $1.27 million at an Inglis Digital Sale.
Pardi has raced numerous winners with Ciaron Maher and the champion trainer followed up with $260,000 for an Anamoe (Street Boss) colt (Lot 103) from Cannon Hayes Stud. His dam Vaayala (Volksraad) is a half-sister to Dundeel (High Chaparral) and she has already thrown the Snitzel stakes performers Valalie and Rockland.
SP Bloodstock was also active in the afternoon paying $400,000 to Coolmore Stud for a Frankel (Galileo) colt (Lot 167) in association with Tasmanian-based Grenville Stud owners Graeme and Bart McCulloch.
“He will come back here for the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale next year,” Pardi said. “Frankel was a world-beater as a racehorse and he’s doing just as well at stud.”
The colt is from Irish-bred mare Awhile (War Front) who was a Fairyhouse winner for Aidan O’Brien. She is a full-sister to Ruby Stakes (Listed, 1m) winner So Wonderful and her first foal Wooten Warrior (Wootton Bassett) won over 1100 metres earlier this year in New Orleans.
Fairhill Farm continued its successful association with Darley shuttler Harry Angel (Dark Angel) on Monday, selling his half-brother to Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) heroine Hayasugi (Royal Meeting) for $360,000.
The well-built youngster was purchased by Shane McGrath Bloodstock and Melbourne trainer Clinton McDonald.
“We’ve bought him with some of Clinton’s stable clients and let’s hope lightning strikes twice,” McGrath said. “He’s an exciting prospect and is the image of his half-sister in many ways.”
Fairhill sold a Harry Angel colt from Ragazze (Snitzel) for $220,000 at the 2025 Inglis Foal Sale and Fairhill owner Mike O’Donnell sent the mare to Farnan (Not A Single Doubt) this season.
Coolmore’s immediate stud success Home Affairs (I Am Invincible) had five colts make the Top 10 leaderboard on Day 1 led by a Parsons Creek graduate (Lot 68) that was knocked down for $290,000 to Tasman Bloodstock.
“First and foremost he’s by Home Affairs and what’s he’s doing now is just the tip of the iceberg,” Coolmore Stud’s Tom Moore said in an accurate assessment of their gun freshman.
“There are plenty more at home and we can’t get enough of them.”
Home Affairs has the 2025-26 Australian First-Season Sires’ title all wrapped up and he took over at the top of the Australian 2YO Sires’ premiership from Snitzel when Marffiano won the $250,000 VOBIS Gold Rush (1100m) at Bendigo on Saturday. Weanlings at this sale made at least two-times the service fee on which they were conceived.
Parsons Creek bred the colt using Home Affairs over British-bred mare Telopea (Pivotal) who won six of her 20 starts out here, culminating in the VRC Leilani Series Final (1400m) at Flemington.
Fairhill Farm made early inroads with a $250,000 Home Affairs – Sahra (Hinchinbrook) colt (Lot 3) purchased by Victorian buyer Matt Davidson. Sahra was a Canterbury winner for Peter and Paul Snowden and she’s a half-sister to the dam of MRC Blue Diamond Preview (Listed, 1000m) winner Mohave (Exceed And Excel).
The Home Affairs half-brother to Levin Classic (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Age Of Fire (Fastnet Rock) (Lot 234) also made good money for Fairhill when purchased by NZ-based Carlaw Park for $225,000.
Australian Bloodstock director Jamie Lovett weighed in with $220,000 for the Home Affairs - Andalusia (Brazen Beau) colt (Lot 154) from Cannon Hayes Stud. The dam is a Brazen Beau (I Am Invincible) daughter of VRC Desirable Stakes (Listed, 1200m) winner Palomares (Commands).
“He’s a typical son of the sire,” Lovett said. “He stamps them and we came here knowing you have to pay for a Home Affairs now that they’re up and winning.”
Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch said it was pleasing to see the Day 1 statistics. “A higher profile cross section of vendors meant the calibre of the catalogue encouraged the buying bench to bid with conviction..
“The uncertainty earlier this year due to outside circumstances was less prevalent. The local and international buying bench is now more pragmatic and we felt that momentum leading up to the Weanling Sale.”
