Agrarian Girl (Tassort) made the perfect start to her career when taking out Randwick’s Lonhro Plate (Listed, 1000m) on debut on Saturday.

Starting a $31 chance despite a pair of trial wins, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained filly defeated Spicy Miss (Trapeze Artist) by 0.5 lengths under Winona Costin with Savage Look (Wild Ruler) a further 1.7 lengths behind in third.

Adrian Bott said Agrarian Girl’s tenacity is her key asset and that the performance came as no surprise to the stable, as her narrow trial victory may have been misleading given she was still learning.

“Maybe she has looked a little bit under pressure in her trials, but she has still been learning and developing, and she responded in those and that’s exactly what she did today,” Bott said.

“She has been a very talented filly all the way through. We did feel we were throwing her a little bit in the deep end, we did have her nominated for Canberra yesterday as well.

“In fairness, off her trials and the way she looked, she just looked too magnificent to pass up racing here for a bit of black type on her home track.”

Firming from $101 to $34 in Golden Slipper markets following the win, Bott said the stable will now plot a path to the juvenile feature.

“I think we have to. Whether that’s through a Silver Slipper or we trial into a race like the Riesling [Stakes], she has certainly got to be in contention with that tenacity she showed today,” he said.

“I’m sure there is some really nice improvement to come.”

Bred and sold by Emirates Park, the filly was a $280,000 buy for her trainers in conjunction with Bruce Slade’s Kestrel Thoroughbreds at the 2025 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Now the third individual stakes winner by Newgate Farm’s Tassort (Brazen Beau), Agrarian Girl is the first foal out of dual Listed winner Liwa (Mulaazem), the mare herself a half-sister to Group 3-winning, Group 1 placegetter Coleman (Pierata).
