Anamoe named Champion Racehorse at HTBA Awards
Nine-time Group 1 winner Anamoe (Street Boss) was named Champion Racehorse at yesterday evening’s HTBA awards ceremony in Scone.
Bred and raced by Godolphin, Anamoe won six of his Group 1 races this season, including the Winx Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m), George Main Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m), George Ryder Stakes (Gr 1, 1500m) and Chipping Norton Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) in Sydney, while he added the Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) and Caulfield Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) in Melbourne.
On a successful evening for Godolphin, the breeding goliath also claimed the Champion Broodmare award with Circular (Street Cry), who is the dam of this season’s Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner and Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) runner-up Cylinder (Exceed And Excel) and Parisal (Astern), who claimed the Typhoon Tracy Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Moonee Valley.
The Champion First Season Sire award went to their European shuttler Harry Angel (Dark Angel). Among his first southern hemisphere-bred crop are three stakes winners, led by Inglis Banner (RL, 1000m) and Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) placegetter Arkansaw Kid. The sire also had Tom Kitten win the Fernhill Handicap (Listed, 1600m) and Stretan Angel claim the Dequetteville Stakes (Listed, 1050m) in South Australia.
The Champion Two-Year-Old award went to Coolmore’s Golden Slipper winner Shinzo (Snitzel), while Giga Kick (Scissor Kick) claimed the Champion Three-Year-Old award after wins in The Everest (1200m) in October and the All Aged Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) last month.
Yarraman Park’s I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) was named Champion Sire, with the stallion on course for a second general sires’ premiership in Australia this year. Among his leading progeny is Coolmore Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner In Secret.
Away from the equine awards, the HTBA Employee of the Year went to former chief executive of the HTBA Julianne Christopher, while the Horsemanship award was given to Roger Boulton. The Leadership Award was presented to Arrowfield Stud administrator Jess Hood. Daniel Morgan won the HTBA President’s Award, while the Murray Bain Award went to Widden Stud’s Jeannie Harris.
