The Nick Olive-trained Bar Jester (Sandbar) added a first win to his record when he made a winning debut in the $50,000 Clan O’Sullivan (1000m) at Canberra last Sunday and could now head to the Black Opal Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) back at the same venue on March 8.
Ridden by Coriah Keatings, the gelding hit the line strongly to beat Music Time (All Too Hard) by 1.6 lengths with another 3.3 lengths back to Star Of Lily (Standout) in third.
“He’s always shown us he’s a lovely horse and he’s just kept improving,” said Olive.
A homebred for the Roughton family, the gelding is out of five-time winner Sheezsingle (Not A Single Doubt).
A resident at Kooringal Stud, Sandbar (Snitzel) stood his first four seasons at a fee of $8,800 (inc GST) and then was raised to $13,200 (inc GST) when his talented son Shaggy emerged on the scene to win three races in succession, earning nearly $190,000 in prize-money.
By Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), Sandbar has sired four winners and nine place-getters from just 19 starters with Bar Jester the first winner from his second crop.
