Broodmare Sale to also offer drafts from Hesket Thoroughbreds and Bell View Park

Next month’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale will feature new opportunities for buyers, with the latest news of two unreserved reduction sales confirmed in the catalogue.

Victorian-based Hesket Thoroughbreds will offer a line up of 22 lots through the Newington Farm Premium Consignment, while New South Wales’ Bell View Park Stud have ten lots set for the sale.

The Unreserved Reduction for Hesket Thoroughbreds will include members of families the operation has built over many years while at the same time retaining horses linked to their former star galloper and exciting young sire General Beau (Brazen Beau).

“We’re incredibly enthusiastic about the future of General Beau and what he’s producing,” Hesket’s David Moodie said. “The quality we’re seeing from our young sire has given us real confidence in him, so we’ve made the decision to retain his foals and pregnancies, while reducing our broader Hesket broodmare band accordingly.

“This unreserved reduction is really about returning to our roots — going back to how we were breeding 30 years ago, focused on breeding to race, before the commercial pressures and rising costs in the industry shaped the current landscape.

“We’ll be offering 22 mares through the National Sale as part of that process, and moving forward it’s about simplifying the operation, backing our judgement, and building around this young sire in a more sustainable and considered way.”

Julian Blaxland said his Newington Farm operation was honoured to be selected to consign the draft on behalf of Hesket Thoroughbreds.

“Newington Farm is proud to present 22 racefillies and broodmares on behalf of David Moodie and Ash Hardwick’s Hesket Thoroughbreds at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale,” Blaxland said.

“It is an honour to represent a racing and breeding operation synonymous with Group 1 success under our Premium Consignment.

“It’s a unique opportunity for owners and breeders to buy into some of Australia’s fastest and most influential families and certainly an honour we don’t take lightly.

“It’s by far the best consignment of fillies and mares we’ve ever brought to the Gold Coast. To lead with the Hesket Thoroughbreds Unreserved Reduction is incredibly special, and it gives buyers a genuine opportunity to secure elite racetrack performance backed by outstanding pedigrees.”

The Hesket Reduction is highlighted by a select group of high quality racing and breeding prospects, including Viviane (Written Tycoon), who is offered in foal to Anamoe (Street Boss), Group placegetters Sword Of Legacy (Too Darn Hot) and Nodachi (No Nay Never) and Kaiken (Exceed And Excel), who is offered in foal to Castelvecchio (Dundeel).

The line up also includes Group winners and stakes performers as well as proven stakes producers with exciting covers including the dam of Group 3 winner Band Of Brothers (Omaha Beach) in foal to City Of Troy (Justify).

Newington’s Premium Consignment is further strengthened by a classy group of fillies and mares, including the Group 2-winning West Australian heroine Storyville (Overshare), Group 3 winner and Robert Sangster Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m)-bound Roll On High (Shamus Award), Campione d’Italia’s (Snitzel) full-sister Klum and Lady Shenandoah (Snitzel) and Stronger’s (Not A Single Doubt) half-sister Diligente (Pariah).

Meanwhile, Bell View Park Stud will present ten lots as part of their own Unreserved Reduction Sale – seven racefillies or maiden mares and three broodmares – including one in foal to red hot first-season sire Stay Inside (Extreme Choice).

“As the farm is being sold for redevelopment, we’ve made the decision to reduce our numbers accordingly,” Adam Mackrell said.

“We still plan to be very active in the industry, but this marks a shift in focus – moving more toward racing stock and trading horses straight off the track, rather than maintaining broodmares without the farm.

“All things considered, it’s an opportunity to take stock and recalibrate where we want to head next, particularly with the farm no longer part of the operation.

“We’ve always had great success at the National Sale with our trade mares, and we’re pleased with what we’re bringing this year for unreserved competition. Prairie Flower is the headline mare, supported by a strong group of racefillies off the track and some commercial broodmares we feel will appeal across a range of buying levels.”

Prairie Flower (Star Turn), a winner of the Durbridge Stakes (Listed, 1100m) and Rubiton Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) third placegetter, will be offered. The eight-time winner has earned over $620,000 in prize-money and is currently in work with trainer Will Clarken.

Others in the draft are by sires including Exceed and Excel (Danehill), Justify (Scat Daddy), Written Tycoon, The Autumn Sun (Redoute’s Choice), Deep Field, Dundeel (High Chaparral), Hellbent (I Am Invincible) and Lookin At Lucky (Smart Strike).
