Dam of Imperatriz headlines Chairman’s Sale supplementaries
Berimbau (Shamardal), the dam of five-time Group 1 winner Imperatriz (I Am Invincible), headlines nine supplementary entries for the upcoming Inglis Chairman’s Sale, which were unveiled yesterday.
The boutique breeding stock sale, which will be held at Inglis’s Riverside Stables on the evening of Thursday, May 4, has also been bolstered by the addition of Group 1 winner Inspirational Girl (Reliable Man), Listed winners Dashing Legend (Snitzel), Scorched Earth (Nicconi), Art De Triomphe (Vadamos) and Ancient Girl (Turn Me Loose), as well as Crystalane, a winning Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) mare from the famed Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) family, and Jaunara (Safeguard), the dam of Western Australian Group 3 winner Admiration Express (My Admiration).
A stallion share in Proisir (Choisir), who it was recently announced would stand for a fee of $70,000 (plus GST) at Rich Hill Stud this upcoming breeding season, will also be auctioned.
Berimbau, an 11-year-old mare by Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway), will be offered by Bhima Thoroughbreds in foal to I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), making the foal in utero a sibling to the Te Akau-owned star Imperatriz, who struck for her first Australian Group 1 success last month when winning the William Reid Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at Moonee Valley.
A Group 2 placegetter on the track, Berimbau, herself a half-sister to the stakes winner Vinco (I Am Invincible), has five foals, three of which have raced, for two winners.
She has a yearling filly by Novara Park’s Press Statement (Hinchinbrook) and a colt foal by Newgate Farm’s Capitalist (Written Tycoon).
The Bob Peters-owned Inspirational Girl, a rising eight-year-old, is the winner of ten of her 22 starts, with nine of her victories arriving within the mare’s first 11 racetrack starts, a run which culminated with victory in the Railway Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Ascot in November 2020. Last season she won the Blamey Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Flemington. She will be offered by Holbrook Thoroughbreds.
The addition of the supplementary entries takes the total number of lots to be offered at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale to 109, with offerings such as four-time Group 1 winner Montefilia (Kermadec), as well as elite-level scorers Icebath (Sacred Falls), Graceful Girl (Nicconi) and Nimalee (So You Think) set to headline the sale.
Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch believes next Thursday’s select sale of elite breeding stock will be an event not to be missed, the world over.
“I didn’t think the catalogue could get any better following the initial launch, but there are some incredible lots in the supplementary and it’s shaping up to be a special occasion,” Hutch said.
“Elite mares like Berimbau – young, proven and in foal to a champion sire – rarely, if ever, come up for auction, so we are hugely grateful for the opportunity to bring her to market.
“The two most recent colts to win the Golden Slipper, Stay Inside and Shinzo, were both sold in utero at the Chairman’s Sale, and Berimbau is the sort of mare that could be carrying a Golden Slipper, a Golden Rose, a Coolmore or an Everest winner.
“The depth of quality through the catalogue is just incredible and there is great variety to it also, which is only enhanced by the addition of the likes of Inspirational Girl, Scored Earth and Dashing Legend.”
