Farnan posts impressive Kindergarten quinella
Kia Ora’s first-season sire Farnan (Not A Single Doubt) continued to fire with his runners as the stallion chalked up his third stakes winner when North England led home a quinella for the sire in Saturday’s Kindergarten Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) at Randwick.
It was a deserved first stakes win for North England, who has been running consistently well at stakes level all season and had erroneously been classed as Farnan’s first stakes winner by some when he landed the Golden Gift in November, with the Rosehill 1100-metre among the group of races Racing NSW upgraded without going through the correct protocols.
But after finishing a solid fifth in the Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) and sixth in the Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m), the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained North England finally got his day in the sun when he defeated Farnan’s first stakes winner King Of Pop by 0.3 lengths. Beskar (Snitzel) was the same distance further back in third.
“It’s really satisfying. It’s been a very frustrating campaign with him. The horse has got so much talent and things haven’t necessarily gone right for him throughout the campaign, so to capitalise and finish on a good note, I guess, is very satisfying for the owners and connections,” said Bott.
“Obviously they put a lot in looking for these types of horses and colts, so to get a nice win for a talented two-year-old on a big day like today is very satisfying.”
North England has been a natural two year-old from day one and can now look forward to his three year-old season.
“He’s got the great temperament for it. He’s just a naturally precocious horse, which he’s shown from early days. He’s got the mindset and constitution to be able to keep up and sustain that sort of preparation and I think he’ll train on as well,” Bott added.
“We’ll tip him out now, most likely, get him set for a three-year-old campaign and hopefully we can have a smooth run at things and he can show his talent.”
Bred by Zhongli Thoroughbreds, North England (2 c Farnan – Our Belisa by Lope De Vega) was purchased by China Horse Club, Newgate Bloodstock, Go Bloodstock and Trilogy for $280,000 from the Valiant Stud draft at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale last year. He is out of four-time winner Our Belisa (Lope De Vega), who was covered by another Golden Slipper-winning sire in Stay Inside (Extreme Choice) last September.
Winner of the Golden Slipper for Waterhouse and Bott in 2020, Farnan has made a blistering start to his stallion career, siring seven winners from 24 runners and North England joins King Of Pop and Recuperato as the stallion’s other stakes winners.
