The well-bred Fireball Miss (Bivouac) scored at the second time of asking at Rosehill on Wednesday, with a drop back in grade suiting the filly.
Ridden by Zac Lloyd for Ciaron Maher in the $100,000 1500-metre maiden, the three-year-old daughter of Bivouac (Exceed And Excel) kept on gamely inside the closing stages to deny the persistent challenge of Almaaz (Zoustar) to record a 0.2 lengths victory.
There was a further 1.8 lengths back to Indigo Star (Zoustar) in third as the winner improved upon her debut fifth placing in the Inglis Xtra Bonus Maiden Plate (1200m) at Warwick Farm on February 4.
“She’s still learning and is very promising,” stable representative Johann Gerard-Dubord said. “She’s a well bred filly as a half-sister to the SA Derby winner last year, so it’s good to get the maiden win today and especially for such good prize-money.
“It’s great for Bennett Racing, they have been such good supporters of ours and they keep finding good horses and they will have a lot of fun with her.”
Fireball Miss was a $140,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Vinery Stud for Bennett Racing and is the second foal and second winner out of the stakes-placed Pierro (Lonhro) mare Femme Fireball, making her a half-sister to last year’s South Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) heroine Femminile (Dundeel).
Femme Fireball is a sister to Group 3 winner Rock and was sold at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale last year for $900,000 to Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA) and Paul Willetts Bloodstock. She is now with Three Bridges Thoroughbreds and produced a filly for them last spring by Anamoe (Street Boss).
