Foals by Australian-bred mares sell for combined ¥558,000,000
Meanwhile, four Northern Farm-consigned lots out of Australian-bred mares sold for a total of ¥558,000,000 (approx. AU$5.47 million) during Tuesday’s foal session, with a colt out of Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Fireburn (Rebel Dane) the highest of the quartet when selling to Tetsuhide Kunimoto for ¥320,000,000 (approx. AU$3.29 million).
By Shadai Stallion Station’s Kizuna (Deep Impact), the colt is the first foal out of the Laurel Oak Bloodstock, Grant Bloodstock and Carpe Diem Syndicate-bred Fireburn, who strung together two brilliant wins in the 2022 Golden Slipper and Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m).
The daughter of Rebel Dane (California Dane) trained on at three and was a brilliant winner of the BRC Roses (Gr 2, 2000m). Out of the winning So You Think (High Chaparral) mare Mull Over, Fireburn is a half-sister to dual Group winner Kintyre (Hallowed Crown).
Another lot consigned by Northern Farm was a colt out of 2019 Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Funstar (Adelaide) who sold for ¥120,000,000 (approx. AU$1.23 million) to owner Makoto Hayano.
Funstar made headlines when Katsumi Yoshida parted with AU$2.7 million for her via an Inglis Digital Sale in 2021. Her first foal, a colt by Kizuna, now named Danon Funstar, brought ¥176,000,000 at this sale in 2023.
The mare is a half-sister to Queensland Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Youngstar (High Chaparral), who was purchased for AU$1.4 million, also by Yoshida, at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in 2020 and is already a Grade 3 producer.
Funstar and Youngstar are siblings to prolific producer Baggy Green (Galileo), the dam of Group 1-winning pair Tofane (Ocean Park) and No Compromise (Pins), while she also produced Listed-winning duo Bradman (Pins) and Benaud (Reliable Man).
The final colt foal out of the quartet of mares came from the Listed-winning Jazz Etude (I Am Invincible) and sold to Fukumori Toshiyuki for ¥60,000,000 (approx. AU$617,340).
Jazz Etude raced in Japan after being purchased by Katsumi Yoshida for AU$650,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2020.
Bred by Morning Rise Stud, the daughter of I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) is out of Mumbai Rock (Fastnet Rock) which makes her a half-sister to Group 3 winner Mumbai Muse (Zoustar) – who was bought by Kia Ora Stud for AU$1.5 million at the Chairman’s Sale earlier this year.
The final lot out of an Australian mare at Tuesday’s sale was a filly out of 2016 Vinery Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Single Gaze (Not A Single Doubt) who sold to Haramura Masatoshi for ¥58,000,000 (approx. AU$596,760).
Tuesday’s filly is the first offspring out of Single Gaze to be offered on the public market. As well as her Group 1 win, the daughter of Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) was also successful in the P J O’Shea Stakes (Gr 2, 2200m), Keith F Nolan Classic (Gr 3, 1600m) and Tails Stakes (Listed, 1600m).
