Four for Blue Point

New winners

Blue Point (pictured above) – Darley shuttler Blue Point (Shamardal) enjoyed a memorable week with three new scorers taking his tally to four winners from his first seven runners. Valour And Swagger (2 c ex Music Chart by Exchange Rate) ran away with a novice contest over six furlongs at Windsor as he defeated the odds-on favourite Dapperling (Dandy Man) by six and a half lengths. A 45,000gns foal, Valour And Swagger was purchased for £80,000 by Oliver St Lawrence at the Goffs Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale. He is the third winner from as many to race out of the stakes-placed Exchange Rate (Danzig) mare Music Chart. Blue Storm (2 c ex Riskit Fora Biskit by Kodiac) provided Blue Point with a third individual winner when running out a comfortable scorer in a five-furlong novice event at Newmarket. A £75,000 purchase at last year’s Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale, Blue Storm is the sixth foal out of the Listed-winning mare Riskit Fora Biskit (Kodiac), making him a half-brother to the useful winners Asjad (Iffraaj) and Silver Surfer (Caravaggio). The explosive start to Blue Point’s stallion career continued when Keren (2 c ex Keresona by Oasis Dream) landed a newcomers contest over 1100 metres at Tarbes in France. Keren is out of the Listed-winning Oasis Dream (Green Desert) mare Keresona, who herself is a half-sister to the Group 3 winner Keratiya (Iron Mask). Blue Point, who shuttled to Northwood Park for a fee of AU$44,000, is housed at Kildangan Stud where he stands for a fee of €35,000 (approx. AU$57,130).

Calyx – The Amo Racing-owned Persian Dreamer (2 f ex Surprisingly by Galileo) produced a perfect debut performance to easily score in a five-furlong fillies’ maiden at Newmarket, providing Coolmore’s first-season sire Calyx (Kingman) with a second individual winner. Trained by Dominic Ffrench Davis, the filly quickened impressively in the final furlong to put three and a quarter lengths between her and favourite Dorothy Lawrence (Soldier’s Call). A €145,000 purchase as a yearling, Persian Dreamer is a half-sister to Group-placed winner Queen Olly (No Nay Never) and useful scorer Schooner Ridge (Siyouni) being the fourth foal out of the Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) mare Surprisingly, herself a sister to Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) runner-up and Group 3 winner Tiger Moth (Galileo) and Group-placed winner Butterscotch (Galileo). Calyx, who has now had six starters, stands for a fee of €10,000 (approx. AU$16,310).

Encryption – Cifrado (2 c ex Madame Fly by Excites) gave Eureka Stud’s Encryption (Lonhro) his second winner when impressively landing an Ipswich maiden. Bred by Black Soil Bloodstock, the colt is out of Madame Fly (Excites) making him a half-brother to Listed winner Miami Fleiss (Spirit Of Boom). Trained by Rex Lipp, Cifrado was purchased at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale for $320,000 by owner Cliff Little.

Jungle Cat – Telemon Thoroughbreds’ Jungle Cat (Iffraaj) produced his first southern hemisphere winner when his daughter Puss Boots (2 f ex Minkus by Jet Spur) recorded a strong victory in a maiden handicap over 950 metres at Cairns. A $13,000 buy from last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale, Puss Boots is raced by Hedley Racing. Jungle Cat has had just three southern hemisphere-bred runners to date on the back of serving 57 mares in his first season at stud for a fee of $13,200.

US Navy Flag – US Navy Flag (War Front) sired his fifth individual first-crop winner from  18 southern hemisphere-bred runners when Penvose Lad (2 g ex Parmalove by Snitzel) won a two-year-old contest over 1000 metres at Riccarton. An $80,000 buy for Champagne Racing from the Inglewood Stud draft at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale, Penvose Lad is the second winner from as many to race out of Parmalove (Snitzel), herself a half-sister to Listed winners Liesele (Exceed And Excel) and Loved Up (Nicconi). US Navy Flag stood at The Oaks Stud for a fee of $15,000 (plus GST) in 2022.

New stakes winners

Almanzor – Cheval D’Or (3 f ex Keepa Cheval by Keeper) became the eighth individual stakes winner for Cambridge Stud stallion Almanzor (Wootton Bassett) when landing the Championship Stakes (Gr 3, 2100m) at Pukekohe. A $420,000 buy for The Oaks Stud and Pike Racing from the Waikato Stud draft at the 2021 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale. The three-year-old is a half-sister to Group 1 winner The Bostonian (Jimmy Choux). Almanzor, who has now had 203 starters, stood the 2022 breeding season for a fee of $50,000 (plus GST). 

Ardrossan – Waikato Stud stallion Ardrossan (Redoute’s Choice) earned his second individual stakes winner when Loch Katrine (2 f ex Cong’er by Zenno Rob Roy) won the Champagne Stakes (Listed, 1600m) at Pukekohe. A $6,000 buy for Wilko Bloodstock from the SG Stud draft at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale, Loch Katrine is the second winner from three to race out of Listed winner Cong’er (Zenno Rob Roy). Ardrossan, who has had nine starters, stood for a fee of $6,000 (plus GST) in 2022.

Australia – Canberra Legend (3 c ex Rocana by Fastnet Rock) provided Coolmore Stud stallion Australia (Galileo) with a 33rd individual stakes winner, and took his unbeaten record to two, when landing the Feilden Stakes (Listed, 1m 1f) at Newmarket. A 350,000gns purchase as a yearling, Canberra Legend is a half-brother to Group 3 winner Youth Spirit (Camelot) and useful scorer Tarbaan (Tamayuz) being the third foal out of the unraced Fastnet Rock (Danehill) mare Rocana, herself a half-sister to Group 2 scorer Blaine (Avonbridge). Australia stands for a fee of €25,000 (approx. AU$40,750).

Churchill – Grand Alliance (4 g ex Endless Love by Dubai Destination) provided Coolmore stallion Churchill (Galileo) with his ninth individual stakes winner when landing the John Porter Stakes (Gr 3, 1m 4f) at Newbury. Grand Alliance is a half-brother to Group 2 scorer Dutch Connection (Dutch Art), Listed-placed winner Dutch Romance (Dutch Art) and winner Smart Connection (Dutch Art), being the ninth live foal out of the unraced Dubai Destination (Kingmambo) mare Endless Love. Churchill, who has now had 262 starters, stands for a fee of €30,000 (approx. AU$49,750).

Contributer – She’s A Con (3 f ex Rocks For Me by Fastnet Rock) earned her Mapperley Stud-based sire Contributer (High Chaparral) a seventh individual stakes winner when landing the Warstep Stakes (Listed, 2000m) at Riccarton. An $800 yearling purchase for Allan Tyler on Gavelhouse, She’s A Con is the second winner from as many runners out of the unraced Rocks For Me (Fastnet Rock), herself a half-sister to Group 1 winner Sleek Chassis (Flying Spur). Contributer, who has had 109 runners, stood for a fee of $20,000 (plus GST) in 2022.

Cracksman – The Philippe Sogorb-trained Cracksmania (3 f ex Panthelia by Gentlewave) became the third individual stakes winner for Dalham Hall Stud resident Cracksman (Frankel) when making virtually all in the Prix Caravelle – Haras des Granges (Listed, 2100m) at Toulouse. Cracksmania is the only foal to race out of the Group 3-placed winning mare Panthelia (Gentlewave). Cracksman, who has now had 86 starters, stands for a fee of £17,500 (approx. AU$32,520).

Elvstroem – Watch Him (5 h ex Watchful by Galileo) provided his sire Elvstroem (Danehill) with a 13th individual stakes winner when comfortably the Le Vase D’Argent (Listed, 2000m) at Toulouse. The eighth foal out of the winning Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) mare Watchful, Watch Him is a brother to French winner Watchmen and a half-brother to three winners, including Group 1 scorer Watch Me (Olympic Glory). Elvstroem, who has now had 616 starters, stood the 2022 northern hemisphere breeding season at Haras du Petit Tellier for a fee of €2,000 (approx. AU$3,320).

Elzaam – Moracana (5 m ex Ultra Cool by One Cool Cat) confirmed she is an improving mare when she scored in the Noblesse Stakes (Listed, 1m 4f) at Cork, providing her sire Elzaam (Redoute’s Choice) with a seventh individual stakes winner. Out of the winning One Cool Cat (Storm Cat) mare Ultra Cool, herself a half-sister to the dam of Group 3 scorer Chilworth Icon (Sixties Icon), Moracana is a half-sister to winner Mr Ormsby (Haatef). Elzaam stands at Ballyhane Stud for a fee of €4,000 (approx. AU$6,550).

Gold Ship – Golden Hind (3 f ex Oregon Lady by Shamardal) became the sixth individual stakes winner for her sire Gold Ship (Stay Gold) when making all to land the Sho Flora Stakes (Gr 2, 2000m) at Tokyo. Out of the Group 3-winning Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) mare Oregon Lady, Golden Hind is a sister to winner Cosmo Genie and a half-sister to three other scorers including Meiner Astoria (Hard Spun). Gold Ship, who has now had 278 starters, stands at Big Red Farm for a fee of ¥2,000,000 (approx. AU$22,275).

Harry Angel – Marshman (3 c ex White Rosa by Galileo), a son of Darley shuttle stallion Harry Angel (Dark Angel) won the Prix Sigy (Gr 3, 1100m) at Chantilly, earning his sire an 11th individual stakes winner/ Marshman is the second foal out of Galileo mare White Rosa. Harry Angel stands the northern hemisphere season for a fee of £10,000 (approx. AU$18,476), and will return to Australia this year, where he will command a fee of $33,000 (inc GST).

Havana Grey – Mammas Girl (3 f ex Mamma Morton by Elnadim) made it two wins from as many starts when she produced an impressive late turn of foot to land the Nell Gwyn Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) at Newmarket, providing Havana Grey (Havana Gold) with a seventh individual stakes winner. The 12th foal out of the Elnadim (Danzig) mare Mamma Morton, Mammas Girl is a half-sister to ten winners including Listed scorer Master Of War (Compton Place) and smart winner Muaamara (Bahamian Bounty). Havana Grey stands at Whitsbury Manor Stud for a fee of £18,500 (approx. AU$30,160).

I Am Invincible – Hawaii Five Oh (3 c ex Aloha by Encosta De Lago) provided Yarraman Park stallion I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) with his 93rd individual stakes winner as he ran out an impressive victor of the Hawkesbury Guineas (Gr 3, 1400m). Bred by Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud, Hawaii Five Oh runs for an ownership group that includes Harvey, Strawberry Hill Stud’s John Singleton and Ray Hadley. One of five winners out of the Coolmore Classic (Gr 1, 1500m) winner Aloha (Encosta De Lago), Hawaii Five Oh is a brother to the ill-fated multiple Group 2-winning sprinter Libertini. I Am Invincible, who has had 1,012 starters,  will stand this breeding season for a fee of $302,500 (inc GST).

Kendargent – Kendly (3 c ex Kindly Dismiss by Excellent Art) threw his hat into the ring for next month’s Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Gr 1, 1600m) when he ran out an easy winner of the Prix Aymeri de Mauleon (Listed, 1600m) at Toulouse, providing his sire Kendargent (Kendor) with a 39th individual stakes winner. Out of the Listed-placed winning Excellent Art (Pivotal) mare Kindly Dismiss, Kendly is a brother to fellow stakes scorer Surrey Mist and winner Kendiss. Kendargent, who has now had 665 starters, stands at Haras de Colleville for a fee of €17,000 (approx. AU$28,190).

Kingman – Remarquee (3 f ex Regardez by Champs Elysees) became the 56th individual stakes winner for Juddmonte Farms stallion Kingman (Invincible Spirit) when landing the Fred Darling Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) at Newbury. A half-sister to winner Impatient (More Than Ready), Remarquee is the fourth foal out of the Listed-winning mare Regardez (Champs Elysees), herself closely related to fellow Listed scorer Glance (Dansili) and a half-sister to elite-level winner Scope (Teofilo). Kingman, who has now had 523 starters, stands at Banstead Manor Stud for a fee of £125,000 (approx. AU$232,240).

Kodiac – A change of stable and a wind operation combined to bring about improvement from Indestructible (3 c ex Shareva by Rip Van Winkle), who became the 85th individual stakes winner for Kodiac (Danehill) when landing the Craven Stakes (Gr 3, 1m) at Newmarket. A €150,000 purchase for Amo Racing and agent Kerri Radcliffe at last year’s Arqana Breeze-Up sale, Indestructible is the first foal out of Shareva (Rip Van Winkle) who herself is a half-sister to, among others, the Group 2 winner Shamreen (Dubawi). Kodiac, who has now had 1,501 starters, stands at Tally-Ho Stud for a fee of €40,000 (approx. AU$64,925).

Overshare – Lady Laguna (3 f ex Catalina De Lago by Encosta De Lago) became the first stakes winner for Widden Stud stallion Overshare (I Am Invincible) as she proved a neck too good for Swiss Exile (Pariah) in the Mick Dittman Plate (Listed, 1110m) at Doomben. Running in the colours of OTI Racing, Lady Laguna is the first winner out of the metro winner Catalina De Lago (Encosta De Lago), herself a half-sister to Group 2 scorer She Will Be Loved (Strategic) and to the dam of Group 3 winner Luke’s Luck (Show A Heart). Overshare, who has had 29 starters, will stand the 2023 breeding season for a fee of $8,800 (inc GST).

Pride Of Dubai – My Khalifa (4 g ex O’Reilly’s Charm by O’Reilly) became the 19th individual stakes winner for Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) when scoring in the City Of Adelaide Handicap (Listed, 1400m) at Morphettville. Purchased for $17,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Weanling Sale, My Khalifa is the first winner out of the unraced O’Reilly (Last Tycoon) mare O’Reilly’s Charm, a daughter of Group 2 winner Sequential Charm (Sequalo). O’Reilly’s Charm has a weanling colt by Dubious (Not A Single Doubt) and was covered by Ilovethiscity (Magic Albert) last year. Pride Of Dubai, who has had 382 starters, stood the 2022 breeding season at Coolmore Australia for $16,500 (inc GST).

Sioux Nation – Ocean Quest (3 f ex Gold Zain by Aqlaam) made a winning return to action in the Committed Stakes (Listed, 5.5f) at Navan to become the seventh individual stakes winner for Sioux Nation (Scat Daddy).  A half-sister to Singapore winner Rhythm Of Zain (Dragon Pulse), Ocean Quest is the second foal out of the winning Aqlaam (Oasis Dream) mare Gold Zain, herself a half-sister to German Group 2 winner Poetic Dream (Poet’s Voice) and French Group 3 scorer Who Knows (Siyouni). Former Swettenham Stud shuttler Sioux Nation, who has now had 114 starters, stands at Coolmore Stud for a fee of €17,500 (approx. AU$29,020).

Sir Prancealot – Caste (3 f ex Boat Quay by Belong To Me) provided her sire Sir Prancealot (Tamayuz) with a 13th individual stakes winner from 337 starters when holding on well to land the HC Nitschke Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Morphettville. A $90,000 purchase for Lindsay Park Racing from the Cornerstone Stud draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, Caste is the best of five winners from seven to race out of the winning Belong To Me (Danzig) mare Boat Quay. A half-sister to Group 3 winner Silverstream (Al Maher) and stakes winners Speedy Natalie (Al Maher) and Calandra (Snitzel), Boat Quay is a daughter of the AJC Gimcrack Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner Speedy Bell (Brocco). Boat Quay died in July last year. Her final foal is a yearling sister to Caste. Sir Prancealot stood the 2022 breeding season at Cornerstone Stud for a fee of $8,800 (inc GST).

So You Think – Street Gossip (3 f ex Wahng Wah by Casino Prince) provided Coolmore stallion So You Think (High Chaparral) with a 51st individual stakes winner from 794 runners when scoring in the Princess Stakes (Listed, 1615m) at Doomben. Bred by Wall Street Thoroughbreds, Street Gossip is the first winner out of the metro-winning Casino Prince (Flying Spur) mare Wahng Wah, herself a three-quarter sister to stakes-placed winner Warranty (All Too Hard). So You Think, who has now had 795 starters, stood the 2022 breeding season for $93,500 (inc GST).

Star Witness – Stellar Vista (5 m ex Vantage Point by Anabaa) recorded a maiden stakes success at her first attempt in the grade as she ran out a narrow victor of the Sheila Gwynne Classic (Listed, 1400m) at Ascot, providing her sire Star Witness (Starcraft) with a 23rd individual stakes winner from 749 starters. Out of the winning Anabaa (Danzig) mare Vantage Point, Stellar Vista is a half-sister to winners Make Your Point (Snippetson) and Point Forward (Charge Forward). Star Witness will stand the 2023 breeding season at Widden Stud in Victoria for a fee of $11,000 (inc GST).

Tavistock – Town Cryer (5 m ex The Speaker by Volksraad) provided the late Tavistock (Montjeu) with a 44th individual stakes winner when she landed the Anzac Mile (Listed, 1600m) at Awapuni. Out of the Listed-placed mare The Speaker (Volksraad), Town Cryer is a half-sister to winners Irish Whisper (O’Reilly) and Lord O’Reilly (O’Reilly). Tavistock, who died in 2019, has now had 722 starters.

War Front – Verstappen (4 g ex Andromeda Galaxy by Peintre Celebre) produced a career-best effort to win the Elkhorn Stakes (Gr 2, 12f) at Keeneland to become the 110th individual stakes winner for his sire War Front (Danzig). Verstappen, who was a US$325,000 buy from the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, is one of four named foals and the first stakes winner out of French Listed winner Andromeda (Peintre Celebre). War Front stands the 2023 breeding season at Claiborne Farm for a fee of US$100,000 (approx. AU$149,000).

Zarak – Crown Princesse (3 f ex Lovemedo by Zafeen) provided Zarak (Dubawi) with a tenth individual stakes winner when landing the Prix Cleopatre (Gr 3, 2100m) at Saint-Cloud. Out of the stakes-placed winning Zafeen (Zafonic) mare Lovemedo, herself a half-sister to Listed winner Mary’s Precedent (Storming Home), Crown Princesse is a half-sister to winner Mysak Miky (Elvstroem). Village Voice (3 f ex Sensible Way by Street Sense) became Zarak’s 11th individual stakes winner when staying on well to land the Salsabil Stakes (Listed, 1m 2f) at Navan. Village Voice is the fourth foal out of the winning Street Sense (Street Cry) mare Sensible Way. Zarak stands at Haras de Bonneval for a fee of €60,000 (approx. AU$99,500).
