King Of Roseau reigns in the Magic Millions Cup
King Of Roseau (4 g Capitalist ex Dominica by Choisir) relished the step back up to 1400 metres in Saturday’s Magic Millions Cup (RL, 1400m), producing a rapid late surge to claim the $2 million race by a narrow margin over Boomtown Boss (Spirit Of Boom).
The Peter Snowden-trained gelding was a good winner of the Aurie’s Star Handicap (Gr 3, 1200m) last August and after a break had been building towards the Cup with good efforts over 1200 metres, including last time out when fourth in the Canterbury Sprint (Listed, 1200m).
The $95,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase needed every part of the extra 200 metres to reel in eventual third placegetter Moravia (Snitzel), with Boomtown Boss making his run alongside the winner and going down by 0.1 lengths.
Saturday marked a decade since Snowden saddled King Of Roseau’s sire, Capitalist (Written Tycoon), to win the Magic Millions 2YO Classic. Snowden cut an emotional figure at the track and said it was a deserved win for a large group of everyday Australians within the four-year-old’s ownership group.
“It’s a super day,” Snowden said. “It’s fantastic to see him win and win a race worth this sort of money.
“There wasn’t much between five horses in the last 200m but he was tough. He’s been working towards a peak performance and he did today.
“It’s good to have nice horses. You never get tired of this [winning feeling] and when you do you should probably give it away.”
King Of Roseau was bought by Pulse Racing Thoroughbreds and Pinhook Bloodstock International from the Ashleigh Thoroughbreds draft for $95,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast. The gelding is out of Dominica (Choisir), herself a daughter of Coolmore Classic (Gr 1, 1500m) winner Danni Martine (Danzero).
The four-year-old was winning a stakes race for the second time having taken out Aurie’s Star Handicap (Gr 3, 1200m) last August.
Snowden bought six yearlings in Book 1 at the 2026 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sales, including two fillies by Capitalist.
