National sales enhanced by Edinburgh Park Dispersal
An Edinburgh Park dispersal of 63 lots, 23 weanlings and 40 race-fillies and broodmares has boosted the 2023 Magic Millions National Sale catalogue.
The draft includes 12 stakes-performed mares, from bluebloods, stakes-winning and stakes-producing mares, adding to the already high–quality catalogue that includes Group 1 winners Forbidden Love (All Too Hard), Levante (Proisir) and Snapdancer (Choisir).
Edinburgh Park’s Ian Smith said that this dispersal will allow him to evaluate what his future looks like, with or without a large quantity on his farm.
“I’ve decided to hit the reset button and will step back for a bit,” Smith said. “Having an unreserved dispersal has been on my mind for a while and I decided now was the right time. You sacrifice a lot in this industry and I will take some time to reassess how I tackle the future.”
Smith said that a strong list of weanlings, broodmares and race-fillies are up for sale, all unreserved, which will allow a valuable opportunity for buyers to purchase high–quality stock.
“I want to be able to present every horse to market and to offer them unreserved – a transparent process – with great opportunities for buyers. There’s a great line up of weanlings and also plenty of young stakes–winning mares. A number of them are from families I’ve helped to develop.”
Thoroughbreds from Edinburgh Park were already included in the national sale catalogue, but the dispersal sale has heavily increased the number of horses up for offer.
Weanlings by some of Australia’s most renowned stallions including Pierro (Lonhro), Written Tycoon (Iglesia), So You Think (High Chaparral) and Zoustar (Northern Meteor) will be up for auction – along with mares in foal to some of the country’s most exciting young stallions, including Farnan (Not A Single Doubt), Harry Angel (Dark Angel) and Stay Inside (Extreme Choice).
“Smithy is one of the country’s most astute and successful breeders and the weanlings, fillies and mares to go under the hammer are the fruits of his years of hard work and investment,” Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said. “We have a world–class catalogue for the 2023 National Sale and we can’t wait to welcome vendors and buyers to the Gold Coast next month.”
The Gold Coast National Weanling Sale will start on May 18, while the National Broodmare Sale will kick off on May 23 and the Magic Millions online catalogue will be updated in the coming days.
