Rosemont stumps up for Extreme Choice colt
Rosemont’s quest to find a topshelf stallion to stand at the Victorian stud has continued in 2024 and in three days on the Gold Coast the Nigel Austin and Anthony Mithen-run farm has invested $5.745 million on eight colts, and yesterday they intensified their spending spree when going to $1.45 million for a limited edition son of Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt).
With a suite of stables on board to train their various colts, it will be Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott who take charge of the SF Bloodstock-bred colt by Extreme Choice, the same sire as Rosemont’s young Blue Sapphire Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) winner Extreme Warrior.
“The horse [Extreme Choice] has done an incredible job at stud and I think also as the sale progresses and you see other colts going through, it sets some benchmarks for the ones that you like,” Rosemont’s advising agent Suman Hedge said.
“With the one going through [on Wednesday] selling really well [$1.6 million], we knew this one was going to be quite a challenge to get, but we’re really happy to get him.”
Newgate Farm paid US$350,000 at the 2019 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale for the seven-figure colt’s dam Euroboss (Street Boss) before exporting her to Australia.
As well as the $1.45 million colt, Euroboss has a weanling colt by Extreme Choice’s Golden Slipper-winning son Stay Inside.
“With Extreme Choice in particular, he’s a little bit of an outlier in that he just seems to go well with a whole range of bloodlines,” Hedge said.
“Having said that, she’s a Stakes-placed mare who was fast and she’s already thrown a Stakes winner, so there’s a little bit of evidence there that she’s doing a nice job.
“With the type that he is, he looks a really fast horse, so hopefully it will work out.”
