Saturday Spotlight: Latvian
Trainer: Anthony and Sam Freedman
Race: Talindert Stakes (Listed, 1100m), Flemington
Co-trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman are preparing to unleash Latvian (Pariah) today, with the colt set to make his debut in the $160,000 Talindert Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Flemington.
The two-year-old has already shown significant promise to date, finishing second behind the $1.25 million Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase Zamborghini (Zoustar) in a Cranbourne trial on February 7.
By Arrowfield Stud’s first season sire Pariah (Redoute’s Choice), Latvian is currently priced at around $20 for today’s Listed contest and will be ridden by Mark Zahra as the pair jump from barrier six.
The colt was bought by James Harron Bloodstock – whose colts syndicate raced his father – for $375,000 at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, making him Pariah’s most expensive yearling to date.
The sixth foal out of the 2011 Maribyrnong Plate (Gr 3, 1000m)-winning Elusive Quality (Gone West) mare Real Stolle, Latvian is a three-quarters brother to the Football Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner Nomothaj (Snitzel) and to winning pair Cinderella Man (Exceed And Excel) and Profiterole (Snitzel). Further back the colt hails from the same family as 2019 VRC Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) winner Warning (Declaration Of War).
Real Stolle (Elusive Quality) foaled a colt by Pariah’s barnmate The Autumn Sun (Redoute’s Choice) in 2020 and he was purchased by RIFA Mustang for $80,000 at last year’s Magic Millions National Weanling Sale. Last season the mare produced a colt by another Arrowfield Stud inmate, Dundeel (Zabeel)
