Waterhouse and Bott duo land trials
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott enjoyed more trial success yesterday when a pair of unraced two-year-olds landed their respective heats at Warwick Farm.
Their first win of the morning came courtesy of Russian Roulette (Russian Revolution), who made it two trial wins in a month when running out a comfortable scorer in a 796-metre heat for colts and geldings.
A $360,000 buy from The Chase draft for China Horse Club/Newgate/Go/Trilogy at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Russian Roulette is out of the unraced Bethsaida (Dubawi), who is a three-quarter sister to the Group 3-winning miler Discovery Island and a half-sister to the stakes winners Dunelight (Desert Sun) and Sperry (Shamardal). The Chase will offer his half-sister by Justify (Scat Daddy) at Inglis Classic Yearling Sale as Lot 117.
Stablemate Chateau Miraval (Zousain) led all the way to win her heat by two and a half lengths.
A $650,000 Magic Millions purchase from Rosemont Stud for Yulong Investments, her trainer and Bruce Slade’s Kestrel Thoroughbreds, Chateau Miraval was the highest priced yearling from the first crop of Zousain (Zoustar) and is a three-quarter sister to Group 2 winner North Star Lass, who was also trained by Waterhouse and Bott, being out of the Group 3-performed multiple winner Sheila’s Star (Snitzel).
Newgate and China Horse Club partnership colts filled the first two places home in another of the two-year-old trials when the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Embassy (I Am Invincible), a $625,000 Gold Coast buy, got the better of the Waterhouse and Bott-trained Vassos (I Am Invincible). Embassy is the third foal out of the Listed winner Dendee (Denman).
Odinson (Night Of Thunder), winner of the Inglis Nursery (RL, 1000m) in early December, looked in good shape when the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained colt cruised up on the inside to beat $800,000 Gold Coast yearling, Excelindeed (Exceed And Excel), who was having his second trial following a win first time out.
Godolphin’s homebred filly And Found, by their resident first-season sire, Microphone (Exceed And Excel), won her heat by three-quarters of a length, her best effort in three trials to date. She is a half-sister to three winners, being out of the Listed-winning mare Abduction (Street Cry), herself a half-sister to dual Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed Retrieve (Rahy) and the three-time stakes scorer Reparations (Exceed And Excel).
