‘We’re really pleased with what’s on offer this year’ – New Zealand Bloodstock release 2025 Weanling Sale catalogue
A total of 134 weanlings have been catalogued for New Zealand Bloodstock’s (NZB) 2025 National Weanling Sale, which will take place at Karaka on June 26.
The catalogue features the progeny of many of New Zealand’s best stallions, including Proisir (Choisir), Savabeel (Zabeel), Super Seth (Dundeel), Shamexpress (O’Reilly), Almanzor (Wootton Bassett), and Per Incanto (Street Cry).
Over the past few years, the sale has been a strong source of winners and recent graduates include Jedibeel (Savabeel), Pivotal Ten (Ten Sovereigns), plus Group 1 winners Pignan (Staphanos), Callsign Mav (Atlante), Jennifer Eccles (Rip Van Winkle), Karaka Millions 2YO (RL, 1200m) winner, Tokyo Tycoon (Satono Aladdin).
Kane Jones, Bloodstock sales manager at NZB, told ANZ Bloodstock News the company was pleased with the quality of weanlings set to go under the hammer next month.
“We’re really pleased with what’s on offer this year. The New Zealand stallion ranks are particularly strong at the moment, and we’re represented by all the top commercial stallions, which is really exciting,” he said.
“We’ve seen some outstanding pinhooking results from this Sale, with a number of weanlings proving profitable within a relatively short timeframe.
“Plus, the record these graduates have on the track speaks volumes, from just a small catalogue each year.”
The catalogue also includes nine weanlings from the first crop of Windsor Park Stud’s Spring Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 200m) winner Profondo (Deep Impact).
“We are thrilled to offer the first crop of Profondo to the market. He was an expensive yearling and rightly so, being a beautiful quality son of Deep Impact,” said Jones.
“He had a big reputation from day one, and that was justified in him winning the Group 1 Spring Champion stakes. From what I’ve seen so far, his first crop foals are all quality, and I think they’ll be really well received by the market.”
All weanlings catalogued are eligible for nomination to New Zealand Bloodstock’s Karaka Millions Series, which includes the $1 million Karaka Millions 2YO, the $1.5 million Karaka Millions 3YO (RL, 1600m), and the recently launched $1 million Mega Maiden Series, comprising 40 maiden races held outside of Saturday metropolitan meetings across the country.
Prospective buyers will have the opportunity to inspect sale weanlings during scheduled on-farm parades in early June, as well as at the Karaka Sales Centre ahead of the auction. NZB’s team of agents will also be on hand to conduct inspections on behalf of clients unable to attend in person.
“We’ve seen a number of Group 1 winners come out of the sale, a Karaka Million winner in recent time in Tokyo Tycoon and we’ve seen the pinhookers also have some really good success as well, making a good profit on a number of weanling sale graduates at both the Karaka Yearling Sale and the Ready to Run sale as well,” Jones said.
The team at NZB are working on the supplementary entries for the sale, which remain open.
The National Weanling Sale will be held on the same date as the National Standardbred Weanling Sale at Karaka. The joint sale date will see the thoroughbred session get underway from 10am (NZT), with the standardbred weanlings following from 2.30pm.
