18 for Blue Point

New winners

Blue Point (pictured above) – Darley’s Blue Point (Shamardal) was handed his 17th and 18th individual winners last week, beginning when Specific Times (2 f ex Daily Times by Gleneagles) scored in a six-furlong nursery at York. Specific Times is the first foal out of the winning Gleneagles (Galileo) mare Daily Times, herself a half-sister to dual Grade 1 winner Newspaperofrecord (Lope De Vega) and Listed scorer Classical Times (Lawman). Blue Point then added his 18th individual winner when Mondrial (2 c ex Makeba by Makfi) scored in a 1400-metre maiden at Chantilly. Mondrial is the first foal to race out of the unraced Makfi (Dubawi) mare Makeba. Blue Point, who stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Kildangan Stud for €35,000 (approx. AU$57,510), will shuttle to Northwood Park for the upcoming breeding season for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST). He has had 54 starters.

Brave Smash – Mansiere (2 g ex Double Dee by Dubleo) hit the target at Bendigo, becoming the 11th individual winner for his Yarraman Park Stud sire Brave Smash (Tosen Phantom). Mansiere, who was a $50,000 Inglis Classic buy, is the third winner from as many runners out of five-time scorer Double Dee (Dubleo), herself a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Shamus Award (Snitzel). Brave Smash, who has had 29 starters, will stand the upcoming breeding season for a fee of $33,000 (inc GST). 

Calyx – How’s The Guvnor (2 c ex Blessing by Pulpit) became the sixth individual winner for Coolmore’s Calyx (Kingman) when he got off the mark in a maiden over six furlongs at Doncaster. A £90,000 breeze-up buy at Goffs, How’s The Guvnor in the ninth foal out of the placed Pulpit (A.P. Indy) mare Blessing. Hot Fuss (2 c ex Natural Bloom by Galileo) provided Calyx with a seventh individual winner when running out a dominant victor of a seven-furlong novice at Salisbury. The seventh foal out of the winning Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) mare Natural Bloom, Hot Fuss is a half-brother to Listed scorer Brigante Sabino (Zoffany) and to winners Alooqaal (Zoffany) and Amber Star (Lope De Vega).Former shuttler Calyx, who has now had 23 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of €10,000 (approx. AU$16,250). 

Justify – Justify (Scat Daddy) earned himself an eighth individual winner of the season, courtesy of an upset debut win for Batrana (2 f ex Badawiya by Al Maher) in a fillies maiden over 1200 metres at Geelong. A homebred for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum, Batrana is the third foal out of dual Group 2 winner and Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) third Badawiya ( Al Maher), herself a half-sister to unbeaten South African Grade 1 scorer Rumya (Red Ransom). Justify, who has now had 22 southern hemisphere-bred runners, will return to Coolmore Australia for the upcoming breeding season, commanding a fee of $77,000 (inc GST).

Magna Grecia – Loaded Gun (2 c ex Temerity by Zoffany) provided Coolmore’s first season sire Magna Grecia (Invincible Spirit) with a sixth individual winner when scoring in a five-furlong novice at Chester. The second foal out of the winning Zoffany (Dansili) mare Temerity, herself a half-sister to Listed scorer Roxan (Rock Of Gibraltar), Loaded Gun is a half-brother to fellow winner Another Bertie (Acclamation). Magna Grecia, who has stood the last three southern hemisphere breeding seasons at Coolmore Australia, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of €15,000 (approx. AU$24,650). He has now had 27 starters.

Stratosphere – Ian’s Finale (2 g ex Ansaam by Per Incanto) became the seventh individual winner from 16 starters for Grenville Stud’s fStratosphere (Snitzel) when scoring in a 1009-metre maiden on the Devonport Synthetic. Ian’s Finale is the first foal out of the winning Per Incanto (Street Cry) mare Ansaam. Stratosphere will stand the upcoming breeding season for a fee of $7,700 (inc GST).

Too Darn Hot – Race The Wind (2 f ex Falls Of Lora by Street Cry) became the fourth individual winner for Darley’s first season sire Too Darn Hot (Dubawi) when breaking his maiden in a seven-furlong fillies’ event at Newmarket. The sixth foal out of the Group 3-winning Street Cry (Machiavellian) mare Falls Of Lora, Race The Wind is closely related to Canadian Group 1 winner Albahr (Dubawi) and fellow scorer Imperial Empire (Dubawi), while also being a half-sister to two winners, including the three-time elite-level scorer Cascadian (New Approach). Too Darn Hot, who stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Dalham Hall Stud for £40,000 (approx. AU$76,570), will shuttle to Kelvinside for the upcoming breeding season for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST). He has now had 19 starters.

New Group / Grade 1 winners

Caravaggio – Whitebeam (4 f ex Sleep Walk by Oasis Dream) became the second elite-level winner for Caravaggio (Scat Daddy) when registering a narrow success in the Diana Stakes (Gr 1, 9f) at Saratoga. A half-sister to winner Lucid Dreamer (Dansili), Whitebeam is the third foal out of the winning Oasis Dream (Green Desert) mare Sleep Walk, herself a half-sister to English St Leger (Gr 1, 1m 6.5f) winner Logician (Frankel), Grade 3 scorer Suffused (Champs Elysees) and the to the Listed-placed winner Battlement (Dansili). Caravaggio, who has now had 259 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Japan Bloodhorse Breeders Association for a fee of ¥3,000,000 (approx. AU$16,520).

Kingman – Juddmonte Farm stallion Kingman (Invincible Spirit) was provided with his eighth elite-level winner when Feed The Flame (3 c ex Knyazhna by Montjeu) produced a late run to land the Grand Prix de Paris (Gr 1, 2400m) at Longchamp. Out of the unraced Montjeu (Sadler’s Wells) mare Knyazhna, Feed The Flame is a half-brother to the Group 3-winning Group 1 placegetter Sacred Life (Siyouni) and the stakes-placed winner Khagan (Le Havre). Kingman, who has now had 560 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Banstead Manor Stud for a fee of £125,000 (approx. AU$239,260).

New stakes winners

Australia

Aga Khan homebred Shamida (3 f ex Shamooda by Azamour) became the 35th individual stakes winner for Australia (Galileo) when winning the Stanerra Stakes (Gr 3, 1m 6f) at Leopardstown. Shamida is the sixth foal out of the dual winner Shamooda (Azamour), herself a half-sister to stakes winners Shemaya (Darshaan), Shemala (Danehill) and Shemima (Dalakhani). Australia, who has now had 481 starters, stood the northern hemisphere breeding season at Coolmore Stud for a fee of €25,000 (approx. AU$40,775).

Calyx – Persian Dreamer (2 f ex Surprisingly by Galileo) became the first individual stakes winner for Calyx when she landed the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at Newmarket. A half-sister to Group-placed winner Queen Olly (No Nay Never) and French winner Schooner Ridge (Siyouni), Persian Dreamer is the fourth foal out of the Galileo mare Surprisingly, herself a sister to Group 3 winner and Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) runner-up Tiger Moth and the Group-placed scorer Butterscotch.

Danzing Candy – Yo Yo Candy (2 c ex Yolanda B Too by Two Punch) provided Danzing Candy (Twirling Candy) with a second individual stakes winner when landing the Sanford Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) at Saratoga. Out of the stakes-winning Grade 1 placegetter Yolanda B Too (Two Punch), Yo Yo Candy is a brother to the winner Bumpy Cup and a half-brother to a further four winners, including the Grade 3 placegetter Treble (Macho Uno). Danzing Candy has now had 89 starters.

Frankel – Darkaniya (4 f ex Daryakana by Selkirk) provided Juddmonte Farm stalwart Frankel (Galileo) with a 124th individual stakes winner when scoring in the Prix de la Pepiniere (Listed, 2100m) at Chantilly. Out of the Hong Kong Vase (Gr 1, 2400m)-winning mare Daryakana (Selkirk), Darkaniya is a half-sister to the Prix Ganay (Gr 1, 2100m) winner Dariyan (Shamardal) and to stakes scorers Devamani (Dubawi), Darabad (Dansili) and Dariyza (Dawn Approach). Frankel, who has now had 728 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Banstead Manor Stud for a fee of £275,000 (approx. AU$528,490).

Harbinger – Rousham Park (4 c ex Reinette Groove by King Kamehameha) became the 27th individual stakes winner for Harbinger (Dansili) when landing the Hakodate Kinen (Gr 3, 2000m). The third foal out of the winning King Kamehameha (Kingmambo) mare Reinette Groove, Rousham Park is a half-brother to the winner Zodiac Sign (Maurice). Harbinger, who has now had 1,005 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Shadai Stallion Station for a fee of ¥3,500,000 (approx. AU$36,840).

Hard Spun – Jonabell Farm stallion Hard Spun (Danzig) moved to within two of a century of stakes winners when Really Good (3 c ex Means Well by Smart Strike) scored in the Kent Stakes (Listed, 11f) at Delaware Park. A brother to the winner Hey Padre, Really Good is the second foal out of the winning Smart Strike (Mr Prospector) mare Means Well, herself out of the Grade 2-winning mare Great Intentions (Cat Thief). Hard Spun, who has now had 1,487 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of US$35,000 (approx. AU$51,180).

Havana Grey – Jasour (2 c ex Twilight Thyme by Bahamian Bounty) landed the July Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at Newmarket and in the process became the tenth individual stakes winner for Havana Grey (Havana Gold). Bought for £85,000 at the Goffs Premier Yearling Sale, Jasour is the third foal out of the unraced Twilight Thyme (Bahamian Bounty), herself a half-sister to, among others, Group 1-winning-sprinter-turned-sire Twilight Son (Kyllachy). Holguin (3 c ex Roxie Lot by Exceed And Excel) became the 11th individual stakes winner for Havana Grey when he took out the City Plate Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Chester. The second foal out of the winning Exceed And Excel (Danehill) mare Roxie Lot, herself a half-sister to Listed-placed winner Hovering (In The Wings), Holguin is a half-brother to winner Captain’s Bar (Showcasing). Havana Grey, who has now had 142 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Whitsbury Manor Stud for a fee of £18,500 (approx. AU$35,195). 

Henny Hughes – Seltsam (2 c ex Rosarium by King Kamehameha) provided Henny Hughes (Hennessy) with a 45th individual stakes winner when scoring in the Hakodate Nisai Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m). Out of the King Kamehameha mare Rosarium, Seltsam is a half-brother to winner Fatalism (Harbinger).

Host – The Big Goodbye (5 g ex Penny Opera by Danasinga) became the eighth individual stakes winner for his former Willow Grove and Swettenham Stud-based sire Host (Hussonet) when winning the Ramornie Handicap (Listed, 1200m) at Grafton. The Big Goodbye  is the tenth foal out of the five-time winner Penny Opera (Danasinga) and a half-brother to the stakes-placed Special King (Magnus). Host, who died in 2020, has now had 280 runners.

Justify – City Of Troy (2 c ex Together Forever by Galileo) provided Justify with a 14th individual stakes winner when coming home a brilliant victor of the Superlative Stakes (Gr 2, 7f) at Newmarket. Bred in the purple, City Of Troy is a full-brother to smart winner Bertinelli and a half-brother to three winners, including Group 3 scorer Military Style (War Front), being the fifth foal out of the Fillies’ Mile (Gr 1, 1m) winner Together Forever, herself a sister to Epsom Oaks (Gr 1, 1m 4f) winner Forever Together. Justify has now had 149 starters worldwide.

Lord Of England – Extrabunt (3 f ex Edana by Tai Chi) became the 21st individual stakes winner for Lord Of England (Dashing Blade) when landing the Diana Trial (Listed, 2000m) at Mulheim. Extrabunt is the first foal out of the winning Tai Chi (High Chaparral) mare Edana. Lord Of England, who has now had 408 starters, died in 2021.

Mehmas – Dha Leath (5 m ex Tarried by Observatory) became the 22nd individual stakes winner for Mehmas (Acclamation) when she took out the Pipalong Stakes (Listed, 1m) at Pontefract. Dha Leath is the first foal out of the unraced Observatory (Distant View) mare Tarried. Mehmas, who has now had 312 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Tally-Ho Stud for a fee of €60,000 (approx. AU$99,000).

Muhaarar – Israr (4 c ex Taghrooda by Sea The Stars) became the 23rd individual stakes winner for Shadwell’s Muhaarar (Oasis Dream) when landing the Princess Of Wales’s Stakes (Gr 2, 1m 4f) at Newmarket. A Shadwell homebred, Israr is the third foal out of the Classic-winning Taghrooda (Sea The Stars). Muhaarar, who has now had 351 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Haras des Faunes for a fee of €7,500 (approx. AU$12,175). 

Practical Joke – Becky’s Joker (2 f ex Becky’s Best by Elusive Quality) earned Practical Joke (Into Mischief) a 27th individual stakes winner when she made a winning debut in the Schuylerville Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) at Saratoga. A US$130,000 weanling purchase, Becky’s Joker is the first foal out of the unraced mare Becky’s Best (Elusive Quality), herself a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Vertical Oak (Giant Oak). Practical Joke, who has now had 332 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of US$25,000 (approx. AU$36,310) at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky.

Seabhac – Rue Boissonade (3 f ex Saturnine by Galileo) became the third individual stakes winner for Seabhac (Scat Daddy) when landing the Prix de Malleret (Gr 2, 2400m) at Longchamp. Out of the Listed-winning Galileo mare Saturnine, Rue Boissonade is a half-sister to three winners. Seabhac, who has now had 57 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Haras du Taillis for a fee of €3,000 (approx. AU$4,930).

Shamardal – Jir Sun (6 g ex Jira by Medicean) became the 166th individual stakes winner for Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) when landing the Grosser Sommerpreis (Listed, 1400m) at Dresden. The fifth foal out of the Listed-winning Medicean (Machiavellian) mare Jira, herself closely related to Group 2 scorer Plea Bargain (Machiavellian), Jir Sun is a half-brother to winners Jameerah (Dansili) and Jaiyana (Dansili). Shamardal, who has now had 1,420 starters, died in 2020.

The Autumn Sun – Coco Sun (2 f ex Miss Hufflepuff by Encosta De Lago) remained unbeaten from two starts when winning the Oaklands Plate (Listed, 1400m) at Morphettville, becoming the second individual stakes winner for The Autumn Sun (Redoute’s Choice) in the process. Coco Sun, was a $250,000 purchase at last year’s Inglis Classic Sale. She is the fifth foal out of the three-time winner Miss Hufflepuff (Encosta De Lago), making her a half-sister to winners Queen Of Wizardry (Not A Single Doubt) and Chocolate Kisses (Exceed And Excel). The Autumn Sun, who has had 26 first-crop runners, is the sire of five individual winners. He will stand the upcoming season for a fee of $66,000 (inc GST).
