21 for Blue Point

New winners

Blue Point – Darley Stud shuttler Blue Point (Shamardal) scored a double last week, taking his tally of northern hemisphere winners to 21. The double was kicked off by Shady Lady’s (2 f ex Akrivi by Tobougg) victory over 1400 metres at Compiegne on Monday. Having run fourth on debut, Shady Lady showed improvement from her first start, beating In The Stars (Sea The Stars), who finished second, while Maizieres (Ten Sovereigns) came home in third. On Friday, Les Bleus’ (2 f ex Huma Bird by Invincible Spirit) delivered the stallion his 21st winner when she broke her maiden at Newmarket.  The stallion will stand at Darley’s Northwood Park base for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST). 

 

Encryption  – Eureka Stud-based first-season Encryption (Lonhro) chalked up his sixth individual winner when the Annabel Neasham-trained Ozzie The Rabbit (2 g ex Sweetheart Lass by Snitzel) made a winning debut over 1100 metres at Ipswich on Friday. Passed in for $20,000 when failing to make his $30,000 reserve at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2022, the gelding is out of unraced Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) mare Sweetheart Lass, a half-sister to Listed winner Thunder Down Under (Street Sense). Encryption’s progeny are headed by Group 2 scorer Cifrado. The stallion has been represented by 25 runners and he will stand the upcoming breeding season for an unchanged fee of $13,200 (inc GST).

 

Lean Mean Machine – Aquis Stud-based first-season sire Lean Mean Machine (Zoustar) earned his two new first-crop winners last week, taking his tally to four. The first leg of the double came courtesy of the Clayton Douglas-trained Title Fighter (2 g ex If Not Now When by Artie Schiller), who made a winning debut over 1000 metres at Moonee Valley on Saturday. The following day, The Longest Yard (2 g ex Launched by Smart Missile) made the perfect start to his racing career at Bairnsdale. Lean Mean Machine is also the sire of unbeaten filly Material Dreams and Doomben winner Freeman. He will stand the upcoming breeding season for a fee of $13,200 (inc GST) at Aquis Farm’s Canungra stud.

 

Performer – The Scott Morrisey-trained Sonny Daze (2 g ex But Perfect by Lonhro) got off the mark at the seventh time of asking when he broke his maiden over 1200 metres at Doomben on Wednesday and in the process provided Performer (Exceed And Excel) with his fifth individual winner. Performer will stand his first season at Waylon J Stud, having begun his career at Aquis Farm. 

 

Ten Sovereigns – Coolmore’s first season sire Ten Sovereigns (No Nay Never) continued his good form chalking up a pair of new winners last week, taking his tally to eight. Ten Horns (2 c ex Rivalba by Street Cry) became his eighth individual winner when scoring in a 1600-metre maiden at Clairefontaine on Saturday. Earlier in the week, Asean (2 f ex Eria by Zoffany) became the seventh individual winner for Ten Sovereigns when getting off the mark at the fifth attempt in a five-furlong handicap at Cork on Friday. Ten Sovereigns stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Coolmore Stud for a fee of €17,500 (approx. AU$29,040).

 

Too Darn Hot – The Karl Burke-trained Darnation (2 f ex Monday Monday by Galileo) became the seventh individual winner for Darley’s first season shuttle stallion Too Darn Hot (Dubawi) when impressively landing a seven-furlong novice stakes contest at Thirsk on Friday. Too Darn Hot, who stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Dalham Hall Stud for a fee of £40,000 (approx. AU$77,200), will stand the upcoming southern hemisphere breeding season at Kelvinside for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST).

 

New Group / Grade 1 winners

Gimmethegreenlight – Varsfontein Stud resident Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready) chalked up his eighth individual Grade 1 winner courtesy of Sandringham Summit’s (2 c ex Townsend by Captain Al) victory in the Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Greyville on Sunday. Purchased by his owner Rakesh Singh for R1,700,000 (approx. AU$145,336) at the TBA Sale National Yearling Sale in 2022, the colt is out South African Grade 2 winner Townsend (Captain Al), making him a half-brother to fellow Grade 1 scorer Ed Roc (Var). 

 

Siyouni – In winning Sunday’s Prix Rothschild (Gr 1, 1600m) at Deauville, Mqse De Sevigne (4 m ex Penne by Sevres Rose) provided Aga Khan Stud stallion Siyouni (Pivotal) with his tenth individual Group 1 winner. Siyouni is the sire of Australian Group 1 winner Amelia’s Jewel, while he is also the sire of multiple Group 1 winner St Mark’s Basilica, who shuttles to Coolmore Australia. Siyouni stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of €150,000 (approx. AU$248,910). 

 

Vronsky – The Chosen Vron (5 g ex Tiz Molly by Tiz Wonderful) kept his unbeaten thread intact, adding a first elite-level victory to his record when he landed the Bing Crosby Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) at Del Mar on Saturday. In doing so, he provided former Harris Farms stallion Vronsky (Danzig) with his second Grade 1 winner. 

 

Querari -Bavarian Beauty (2 f ex Bandola by Silvano) became the third elite-level winner for her sire Querari (Oasis Dream) when landing the Douglas Whyte Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Greyville on Sunday. Querari currently stands at Freeman Stallions in South Africa for a fee of R45,000 (approx. AU$3,790).

 

New stakes winners

Adlerflug – The Francis Graffard-trained Goliath (3 g ex Gouache by Shamardal) scored his first win at stakes level when he took out Saturday’s Grand Prix De Clairefontaine (Listed, 2400m) and in doing so handed late German-based sire Adlerflug (In The Wings) with his 28th individual stakes winner. Adlerflug died in 2021. 

 

Bated Breath – Juddmonte Farms sire Bated Breath (Dansili) chalked up his 26th individual stakes winner when his daughter Kimi Orenda (3 f ex Sosquaw by Numerous) landed the Konrad Werner Wille-Memorial (Listed, 1400m) at Munich on Sunday. Bated Breath stood the northern hemisphere season for a fee of £15,000 (approx. AU$28,980). 

 

Blue Point – Darley’s first-season shuttle sire Blue Point (Shamardal) added an impressive third stakes winner to his burgeoning record as the Richard Hannon-trained Rosallion (2 c ex Rosaline by New Approach) demolished his rivals in Saturday’s Pat Eddery Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Ascot. Blue Point in the northern hemisphere, will stand the upcoming breeding season at Darley’s Northwood Park base for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST).

 

Canford Cliffs – The Tony Peter-trained Meridius (3 g ex Zili by Parade Leader) broke through at stakes level for the first time when he landed the whirlpool Twitter Handicap (Listed, 1600m) at Greyville on Sunday and in doing so handed Canford Cliffs (Tagula) his 24th individual stakes winner. Canford Cliffs stood the 2023 season at Ridgemont for a fee of R20,000 (approx. AU$1,741). 

 

Charm Spirit – Former Windsor Park shuttler Charm Spirit (Invincible Spirit) chalked up his 17th individual stakes winner when Itza Charmdeel (2 g ex Whatadeel by Dundeel) broke through at stakes level for the first time when he landed Saturday’s Ryder Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Otaki. Charm Spirit stood the northern hemisphere season at Haras du Logis Saint Germain for a fee of €5,000 (approx. AU$8,297). 

 

Cloth Of Stars – Haras Du Logis-based sire Cloth Of Stars (Sea The Stars) sired his first individual stakes winner when Birr Castle (3 c ex Baki by Turtle Bowl) ran out a ready winner of the Prix Pelleas (Listed, 2000m) at Compiegne on Monday. Cloth Of Stars stood for a fee of €7,000 (approx. AU$11,527) in 2023. 

 

Cotai Glory – Tally-Ho Stud-based sire enjoyed a red letter week, siring two new stakes winners, seeing his total number of black-type scorers to ten. The first leg of the double was provided by the Adrian McGuinness-trained Tiger Belle (2 f ex Dark Acclamation by Acclamation), who broke through at stakes level when she landed the Marwell Stakes (Listed, 5f) at Naas on Wednesday. Meanwhile on Sunday, Excellent Truth (3 f ex Moment Of Truth by Teofilo) became the tenth individual stakes winner for Cotai Glory (Exceed And Excel) when registering a narrow success in Sunday’s Prix de Psyche (Gr 3, 2000m) at Deauville. Cotai Glory stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Tally Ho Stud for a fee of €12,500 (approx. AU$20,580).

 

Dark Angel – Yeomanstown Stud stallion Dark Angel (Acclamation) moved within one of a century of individual stakes winners on Saturday as his daughter Sacred Angel (2 f ex Sacred Aspect by Haatef) produced an impressive performance to land the Princess Margaret Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) at Ascot. Dark Angel stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of €60,000 (approx. AU$99,560).

 

Dubawi – Darley stalwart Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) registered his 258th individual stakes winner on Sunday when Al Nayyir (5 g ex Bright Beacon by Manduro) ran out a four-length victor of the Prix du Carrousel (Listed, 3000m) at Deauville. Dubawi stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Dalham Hall Stud for a record fee of £350,000 (approx. AU$671,280).

 

Fastnet Rock – Coolmore Australia stalwart Fastnet Rock (Danehill) captured his 193rd individual stakes winner when the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained Poker Face (4 g ex Stars At Night by Galileo) landed Sunday’s Pomfret Stakes (Listed, 1m) at Pontefract. In winning the contest, Poker Face becomes the 29th stakes winner bred on the Fastnet Rock / Galileo cross. Fastnet Rock will stand the 2023 season at Coolmore Australia for a fee of $110,000 (inc GST). 

 

Frankel – Ylang Ylang (2 f ex Shambolic by Shamardal) became the 125th individual stakes winner for Juddmonte Farm stalwart Frankel when she landed the Silver Flash Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) at Leopardstown on Thursday. Frankel stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Banstead Manor Stud for a record fee of £275,000 (approx. AU$530,290).

 

Galileo – Coolmore’s late super sire Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) was handed a 368th individual stakes winner when the regally bred Jackie Oh (3 f ex Jacqueline Quest by Rock Of Gibraltar) landed the Rathbride Stakes (Gr 3, 1m 1f) at Gowran Park on Saturday. Galileo died in 2021 at the age of 23.

 

Golden Horn – Douriann (4 g ex Dourdana by Exceed And Excel) became the 18th individual stakes winner for Overbury Stud stallion Golden Horn (Cape Cross) when landing the Prix du Pay d’Auge (Listed, 1800m) at Clairefontaine on Saturday. Golden Horn stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of £8,000 (approx. AU$15,450).

 

Gimmethegreenlight – Gimmethegreenlight sired a new stakes winner taking his overall tally of stakes individual stakes winners to 58. The filly was bought by Fortune Racing for R300,000 at the TBA National Yearling Sale in 2022 and she is out of Listed-placed Scandola (Fort Wood), who is also the dam of Gimmie’s Lassie (Gimmethegreenlight). 

 

James Garfield – Man With The Plan (2 c ex Viktoriya Taraban by Lilbourne Lad) registered his first stakes success when he landed Saturday’s Criterium Varesino (Listed, 1500m) in Varese and in the process handed Rathbarry Stud resident James Garfield (Exceed And Excel) with his second individual stakes winner. James Garfield stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of €4,000 (approx. AU$6,637).

 

Kodi Bear – Rathbarry Stud-based resident Kodi Bear (Kodiac) chalked up his seventh individual stakes winner on Wednesday when the Johnny Murtagh-trained Clounmacon (3 f ex Cnocan Gold by Danehill Dancer) took out the Yeomanstown Stud Irish EBF Stakes (Listed, 6f) at Naas. Kodi Bear stood for a fee of €15,000 (approx. AU$24,570) in 2023.

 

Manhattan Rain – The Cliff Brown-trained La Danseuse Rouge (3 f ex Margaux by Exceed And Excel) returned from a spell to win the Lightning Stakes (Listed, 1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday and in the process handed Geisel Park-based sire Manhattan Rain (Encosta De Lago) with his 18th individual stakes winner. Manhattan Rain will stand the upcoming breeding season for an unchanged fee of $8,800 (inc GST). 

 

Rafeef – Ridgemont-based sire Rafeef (Redoute’s Choice) chalked up his 13th stakes winner on Sunday when Outlaw King (2 c ex Way Of Escape by Greys Inn) landed the Umkhomazi Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at Greyville. Outlaw King is out of winning mare Way Of Escape (Greys Inn), a daughter of Listed winner Your Choice (Elliodor). Rafeef stood for a fee of R30,000 (approx. AU$2,612) in 2023. 

 

Reliable Man – Westbury Stud resident Reliable Man (Dalakhani) notched up his 22nd individual stakes winner when his daughter Derida (4 f ex Damour by Azamour) took out the Prix Zeturf – Prix Luth Enchantee (Listed, 2400m) at Clairefontaine on Saturday. Reliable Man stood in the northern hemisphere for nine seasons, before permanently relocating to Westbury Stud this year. The stallion will be offered to breeders for a fee of NZ$13,500 (plus GST) in 2023.

 

New Bay – Shuwari (2 f ex Lady Pimpernel by Sir Percy) became the tenth individual stakes winner for Ballylinch Stud stallion New Bay (Dubawi) when landing the Star Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Sandown on Thursday. New Bay stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of €75,000 (approx. AU$122,600).

 

No Nay Never – The Aidan O’Brien-trained Henry Adams (2 c ex Jigsaw by Galileo) stretched his unbeaten record to two when registering a narrow victory in the Tyros Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) at Leopardstown on Thursday. The win provided former shuttle stallion No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) with a 54th individual stakes winner. He stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Coolmore Stud for a fee of €175,000 (approx. AU$289,020).

 

Starspangledbanner – The Yann Barberot-trained Laulne (2 f ex Lady Francesca by Montjeu) provided Coolmore Stud’s shuttler Starspangledbanner (Choisir) with a 33rd individual stakes winner when scoring in Sunday’s Prix Six Perfections (Gr 3, 1400m) at Deauville. Starspangledbanner, who stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Coolmore Stud for a fee of €50,000 (approx. AU$82,340), will stand at the operation’s Jerrys Plains for a fee of $33,000 (inc GST).

 

Twirling Candy – The Michael Stidham-trained Dream Shake (5 g ex Even Song by Street Cry) scored his first stakes level victory in the Connaught Cup Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) at Woodbine on Sunday and in the process provided Twirling Candy (Candy Ride) with his 42nd individual stakes winner. Candy Ride stood at Lane’s End for a fee of $60,000 (approx. AU$88,909) in 2023.

 

Violence – Hill ‘N’ Dale-based stallion Violence (Medaglia D’Oro) sired his 43rd individual stakes winner when Order And Law (7 r ex Poetic Kid by Shakespeare) landed the Cougar II Stakes (Gr 3, 1m 4f) at Del Mar on Sunday. Order And Law was purchased by Bradley Thoroughbreds for $80,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2017, before being bought by Michael Mellen for $30,000 at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Spring 2YO Sale in 2018.
