A Magic night for industry’s Next Crop
A crew of young members of the Magic Millions team has bragging rights over their thoroughbred industry peers after winning Thursday’s Next Crop trivia competition “fair and square”.
With a homeground advantage on their side, the Magic Millions table took out the Thoroughbred Breeders Australia’s Gold Coast event, the tenth Next Crop get-together since its inception last May.
Organised by TBA in conjunction with the Next Crop committee, which includes Widden’s Matt Comerford and Newgate Farm’s Lachie Pethica, more than 150 people, all aged 36 or younger and split into more than 25 teams, pitted their general and racing knowledge against each other in a good-spirited get-together ahead of next week’s hectic Magic Millions sale on the Gold Coast.
“It was a great event and it ran really smoothly, so credit to Matt and Lachie for all the effort they put into it,” TBA’s industry education and projects manager Maddy Tims said.
“Everyone seems to have had positive reviews from it and enjoyed a lot of banter and laughs and a few beverages and a few jokes here and there as well.
“We had an animal round, entertainment, a bit of everything as well as a couple of racing rounds and we also had our Aushorse Investor’s Guide round, so those who had read our 2024 Guide were at an advantage.
“Everyone’s strengths and weaknesses were put to the test.”
Next Crop has a membership base of more than 450 young industry workers with the prominence of the organisation growing steadily.
