New $50,000 race for Tassie-bred horses
On the eve of the annual Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale, the state’s racing regulator has announced an additional $50,000 race open solely to TasBred horses to be run in April.
Tasracing, in conjunction with Tasbreeders, will conduct a $50,000 race for Tasmanian-bred four-year-olds over 1400 metres at its April 5 meeting to be held at Launceston’s Mowbray racecourse.
The new race is in addition to a $50,000 two-year-old 1200-metre race and the $50,000 three-year-old race, to also be run over 1200 metres. They are open to horses which have been paid up to the Tasmanian Thoroughbred Breeding Incentive Scheme, one which offers more than $1.5 million in extra prize-money and bonuses each Tasmanian racing season.
“The returns of the Tasbred scheme since its inception has seen more than $5.25 million paid out to owners in races in Tasmania and Victoria,” Tasracing CEO Andrew Jenkins said.
The Tasbred scheme will also match the advertised Vobis payment on a Victorian race win for Tasmanian-sired horses only.
Yearlings bought out of Monday’s Tasmanian sale will be eligible for the $170,000 Tasmanian Magic Millions race series and auction house’s $20 million races on the mainland.
