Inglis open entries for Weanling Sale
The 2025 Inglis Weanling Sales series is now open for entries.
Amongst the highlights of this year’s at the Australian Weanling Sale, which takes place on May 5 and 6, is the draft of Dorrington Farm – which will be offered in conjunction with Noorilim Park.
The draft includes a Blue Point (Shamardal) daughter of Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Catchy (Fastnet Rock) and a daughter of Group 1 winner Sheidel (Holy Roman Emperor) by Stay Inside (Extreme Choice).
Another highlight lot is a colt by Too Darn Hot (Dubawi) out of the Group 2-winning juvenile Enbihaar (Magnus), making him a brother to Too Darn Lizzie, who is set to be offered by Widden Stud.
“It’s an honour to offer these weanlings in Sydney in May,” Inglis bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch said. “Robert [Crabtree, Dorrington Farm] has an extraordinary passion for racing and breeding and he deserves huge credit for what he has achieved as an owner and a breeder.
“The Too Darn Hot colt is a potentially very special offering and it’s exciting that he will be part of the catalogue.”
A record $28.4 million was traded across the Series last year, which comprises the Australian Weanling Sale and Great Southern Weanling Sale, a 24 per cent increase from 2023.
It was the third consecutive year Inglis weanling sales ended as southern hemisphere market leader in terms of turnover, with its support thanks to the likes of recent Group 1-winning graduates like Hayasugi (Royal Meeting), Kimochi (Brave Smash) and incumbent Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) favourite Field Of Play (Deep Field).
“A lot of hard work has gone into our breeding stock sales series and especially our weanling sales to show vendors and breeders that they have the best opportunity to achieve the best results should they choose to sell through Inglis,’’ Hutch said.
“We had over 350 individual buyers across our weanling sales series in 2024, with buyers from across Australia and New Zealand supplemented by a large volume of international buyers – it was incredible.
“That resulted in more horses selling for $500,000 or more, more selling for $200,000 or more and more selling for $100,000 or more than our nearest competitor in 2024, which is something we are very proud of.
“We were a long way behind in terms of market share a number of years ago but we have committed to earning the trust and confidence of vendors across the market and that is reflected in the nature of the support and the results that we have had in recent years.”
