She’s Got Pizzazz shines in PJ Bell

Well-bred filly She’s Got Pizzazz (3 f Zoustar ex Missy Cummings by Magnus) added to her value on Saturday when she roared home in the PJ Bell Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Randwick.

The Dorrington Farm-bred daughter of Zoustar (Northern Meteor), who is a sister to Canterbury Stakes (Gr 1, 1300m) winner Mizzy, wound up powerfully down the outside in the 1200-metre contest and eventually got the better of long-time leader Lilac (Justify) to win by 0.3 lengths on the line.

Lilac was also nabbed for second by Flying For Fun (Spieth), finishing 0.07 lengths behind the runner-up.

Trained by Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, She’s Got Pizzazz was last seen finishing a close second in the VOBIS Gold Dash (1200m) at Caulfield behind Winnasedge (Cliff’s Edge), and Saturday’s win marked her second at stakes level after she lifted the Twilight Glow Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at the Victorian track in November.

“She’s got a wonderful family,” Moody said. “Bred and retained by Rob Crabtree and it’s a family that he’s developed for a lot of years. This was a little target race for us. We thought she was unlucky at Caulfield the other day so it was well-deserved I think.”

Moody named two possible next options for the three-year-old: the J.B. Carr Stakes (Listed, 1400m) back at Randwick on April 19 or the Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1400m) during the Brisbane Winter Carnival in June.

“You might see her back here in a couple of weeks in the J.B. Carr,” he said. “Crabby [Rob Crabtree] has got a big goal to win that.

“I’d love to see her in Brisbane for a Stradbroke. So if she’s here in two weeks you’ll know the owner has won the battle. If you don’t see her in two weeks you know she’ll probably run in something like the Fred Best on the way to a Stradbroke in about seven weeks.”
