‘It’s got great credentials for buyers at all ends’ – Magic Millions reveal catalogue for National Broodmare Sale
Magic Millions have released their catalogue for this year’s National Broodmare Sale, set to take place on the Gold Coast on May 27 and 28.
The 524 quality lots are headed by ten individual Group 1 winners, seven of them set to sell straight off the track on Day 1 of the auction in Zougotcha (Zoustar), Atishu (Savabeel), Climbing Star (Zoustar), Belclare (Per Incanto), Molly Bloom (Ace High), Socks Nation (Sioux Nation) and Campionessa (Contributer).
The broodmare session on Day 2 of the auction features the other three, with Aristia (Lonhro) and Volpe Veloce (Foxwedge) both to be offered in foal to I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), while Ulanova (Santos) will sell carrying to Zoustar (Northern Meteor).
A total of 51 stakes-performed lots are catalogued for the opening racefillies session, including 26 individual stakes winners, 16 of them at Group level, while the second session boasts 89 more black type performers (plus supplementaries), headed by 13 Group winners and five Listed winners, along with multiple proven Group producers.
“It’s a catalogue we’re really excited about,” Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch told ANZ Bloodstock News.
“I think it’s got great depth to it, it’s quite a young catalogue. Some 430 plus lots are ten years old or younger, that shows how many race fillies and how many mares are on their first, second, third covers.
“It gives the buying bench real confidence that they’re coming to a sale which has got a lot of appeal.
“The highlight lots are unbelievably strong this year in my opinion – some ten Group 1 winners and seven of them off the track including Zougotcha, Atishu, and Climbing Star – who we’re looking forward to seeing run in a Group 1 [Sangster Stakes] again on Saturday.
“I feel it’s got great credentials for buyers at all ends of the market. If you want to buy the best lots that go to offer, they’re there for you, but I think at all ends given the youth of the catalogue, it gives breeders a great cross section of horses to compete on.”
Supplementary entries remain open for the sale, which in previous years has produced the likes of Aeliana (Castelvecchio), Benedetta (Hellbent), Devil Night (Extreme Choice), Golden Sixty (Medaglia D’Oro), Magic Time (Hellbent), Private Harry (Harry Angel), Schwarz (Zoustar), Skybird (Exosphere), Stefi Magnetica (All Too Hard), Sunlight (Zoustar) and the mighty Winx (Street Cry).
“We have a few supplementaries to announce in the coming days which we’re really, really excited about,” Bowditch said.
“They are always a strong component of the sale and we’re looking forward to adding some really nice race fillies, hopefully mares in foal and maybe some more mares to the international section. We’re still taking entries and that’s going really really well.”
The National Broodmare Sale will follow on from the Gold Coast National Weanling Sale, set for May 25. Supplementary entries for both auctions close on Monday, May 12.
