The prominent team of China Horse Club, Newgate Farm, Go Bloodstock and Trilogy Racing added another winning juvenile colt to their record on Wednesday when Impact Zone (Exceed And Excel) secured an easy win at his second start in a 900-metre maiden at Newcastle.
Trained by Peter Snowden and ridden by Tom Sherry, the son of Exceed And Excel (Danehill) led all the way from barrier three, extending nicely in the closing stages of the race to defeat Godolphin filly Lipstick (Street Boss) and Michael Freedman’s Offenbach (Snitzel) by 1.68 lengths in a dead–heat for second place.
“He shows good natural gate speed. We saw that the other day and I daresay once he finds a bum to follow, he’ll be even better,” said stable representative Aaron Lau.
“He’s got good ability. We’ve always seen that from what he’s done at home and in the trials, but he’s a big gross colt, so it’s taken a few runs for him to come to hand, but he’s done a good job today and he’s on that upward spiral.”
Impact Zone was a $575,000 purchase for China Horse Club, Newgate Farm, Go Bloodstock and Trilogy Racing from Rosemont Stud’s draft at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
He is the first foal to race out of the 2016 Wakefield Challenge Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) winner Gift Of Power (Power), herself out of the Group 1-placed winning mare Capital Diamond (Lucky Unicorn).
Gift Of Power has subsequently produced a filly by I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) and is currently in foal to Anamoe (Street Boss), having slipped to him in 2024.
