First Light Racing and the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young stable unearthed a promising gelding at Caulfield on Saturday in the shape of Prince Tycoon (Written Tycoon) who scored a convincing debut victory and booked his ticket to the $1 million Magic Millions National 2YO Classic (1000m).
The juvenile son of Written Tycoon (Iglesia) started a $2 race favourite under Daniel Moor, off the back of two impressive Cranbourne jump out wins, and delighted punters when he defeated Rosangela (Too Darn Hot) by a half-length, with Millennium Blade, who is also by Too Darn Hot (Dubawi), 2.5 lengths further back in third.
“There’s a $1 million two-year-old race up on the Gold Coast in two weeks so it’s hard to argue against that, but it’s just great to come and get the job done,” Busuttin told Racing.com post-race.
“They are always hard to win on a Saturday and are always hard to win the first time at the races.
“He was hanging the whole way around the corner and wasn’t super sharp like he was in that trial.
“I thought, ‘geez, when you are the first off the bridle, you are in trouble’ but to his credit, he dug in deep. Race day is different to trials in that they look super sharp, but he’s got the job done so it’s good.”
Purchased for $80,000 by his trainers with First Light Racing at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, he is the fourth foal and third winner out of dual winner Dongxing Princess (Exceed And Excel), who also produced Listed placegetter Prinzerro (Pierro).
Dongxing Princess is out of Ennerdale (Singspiel), making her a half-sister to Listed winner Black Sail (Savabeel), and Group winners Samara Dancer (Hinchinbrook) and Almababy (Savabeel).
