Newhaven announce roster as Cool Aza Beel fee remains unchanged

Newhaven Park Stud have announced the fees for their three-strong roster for the 2025 breeding season, with Cool Aza Beel’s (Savabeel) fee remaining unchanged at $16,500 (all fees inc GST).

Currently sitting sixth on the first-season sires list, Cool Aza Beel’s fee will remain consistent with the four previous seasons that the emerging son of Savabeel (Zabeel) has served so far in his stud career.

The stallion’s progeny is headed by Spirit Of Boom Classic (Gr 2, 1200m) and Dalrello Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner Cool Archie, who will get a chance to add to his burgeoning record in Saturday’s BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) at Eagle Farm. Cool Aza Beel is also the sire of stakes-placed colt Cobra Club.

“Breeders are finding it difficult at the moment, especially at the middle and lower end of the market, but when a horse like Cool Aza Beel is going well, it gives everyone hope,” stud principal John Kelly said.

“Cool Aza Beel has stayed at the same fee for his first four seasons, and the people who have got weanlings by him and mares in foal to him will be pleased with his success so far. It’s not just Cool Archie; he has four winners, and Cobra Club was beaten a whisker from the outside barrier in the Inglis Nursery.

“So we’ve been very encouraged with Cool Aza Beel’s results. But, that said, we’re going to remain conservative with his fee this year. We want broodmare owners to have an opportunity to do well with us, so he’ll be staying at the same price.”

Despite demand for the progeny of fellow Newhaven Park stallion Xtravagant (Pentire) remaining particularly strong during the current yearling sale series, Kelly confirmed that the proven sire of Group-winning progeny will stand the upcoming season at a fee of $11,000 – down from $16,500 in 2024.

“We had a great year with his yearlings going into good stables. But he’s battling to find his place in the market, even though he is doing a good job with the likes of inaugural $1 million The Meteorite winner Nadal,” Kelly said.

Newhaven Park’s roster will be completed by dual Group 1-winning son of Savabeel, Mo’unga, who is heading towards his second season at stud and will stand at a fee of $25,000 – down slightly from $27,500 in 2024.

“His first foals are due this spring and he got a great book of mares in his first stud season,” Kelly said.

“He received strong support from his shareholders, and we sent him Media, the grand-dam of Cool Archie, as well as the likes of Group 2 Reisling winner Frolic, Group 2 Angus Armanasco winner Lavish Girl, and dual Group 1 winner English.”
