Regally bred filly Kerber (I Am Invincible) turned heads at Canterbury on Wednesday as she registered her first win at just her second career start.

The filly made her debut in the Lonhro Plate (Listed, 1000m) back in February, when she ran ninth of 11 runners, and was subsequently transferred out of the Ciaron Maher yard to her current trainer Chris Waller.

Kerber had the benefit of two recent barrier trials prior to Wednesday’s return and gave Jason Collett an easy time in the 1200-metre maiden, jumping quickly to lead the field, travelling smoothly throughout and finding plenty in the closing stages to beat Miss Jones (Deep Field) by 0.2 lengths.

“She is very quick and it’s great that she can utilise that speed because she had control of that race along the way out,” Collett said.

“There’s definitely more to come as she’s still got a bit of growing up to do upstairs as she didn’t really handle things going to the start and she shied badly and got herself quite wound up.

“She saw some cyclists going down the back track when I was turning around to go to the gates and it’s just little things like that, her mind’s not completely on it yet.”

Kerber was a $1.15 million purchase for Belmont Bloodstock on behalf of B2B Thoroughbreds from Segenhoe Stud at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Bred by Segenhoe, she is a sister to dual Group 1 winner In Secret, being the third winner out of Group 3-winning mare Eloping (Choisir).

The win also marked a significant milestone for Yarraman Park Stud’s I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), with the filly marking his 200th Australian winner for the season.
