‘It’s the best Premier catalogue we’ve had while I’ve been at Inglis’ – Inglis release 2026 Premier Yearling Sale catalogue

A brother to elite winner Funstar (Adelaide), a half-brother to dual Group 1 hero Streets Of Avalon (Magnus), and foals out of top-tier winners Nettoyer (Sebring), Snitzerland (Snitzel) and Hasahalo (Savabeel) will be among the highlights of next year’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Inglis has assembled a catalogue of 806 yearlings including 579 in Book One for the Melbourne auction, to be held from March 1-3 – a similar size to this year’s edition which had 803 lots listed and 565 in Book One.

A total of 64 vendors will be selling stock by 110 individual stallions, including Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) with nine lots, I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) (seven), Zoustar (Northern Meteor) (10) and Written Tycoon (Iglesia) (16).

The sale – which has hatched the past three Everest (Gr 1, 1200m) winners sold at auction in Bella Nipotina (Pride Of Dubai), Think About It (So You Think) and Nature Strip (Nicconi) – also has strong representation from exciting next-wave sires such as Too Darn Hot (Dubawi) (10 lots), Ghaiyyath (Dubawi) (17), Ole Kirk (Written Tycoon) (11), Harry Angel (Dark Angel) (11) and Super Seth (Dundeel) (two).

First-season stallions on show will include Jacquinot (Rubick) (19 lots), Anamoe (Street Boss) (11), Artorius (Flying Artie) (eight), Hitotsu (Maurice) (seven), Sejardan (Sebring) (nine) and Paulele (Dawn Approach) (five).

Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch says it’s the finest selection he’s seen for the sale in his time with the company.

“It’s the best Premier catalogue we’ve had while I’ve been at Inglis,” Hutch told ANZ News. “We’re really, really pleased with it.

“We are beneficiaries of the fact the sale went really well earlier this year in a testing sales environment. It was the first Australasian sale of the year that posted a gain year-on-year, and I think that’s given people some more confidence around the sale.

“That’s backed up by the support the sale has received this year.

“It’s a sale that local Victorian support is hugely important to. That forms the cornerstone of the sale, but then the quality is supplemented by really good interstate representation this year.

“Coolmore have a big draft. Newgate are back for the second consecutive year. And then you have the likes of Arrowfield who are selling through Glen Lee Thoroughbreds, plus Milburn Creek and Newhaven.

“Widden are considered a Victorian farm for the purposes of this sale, but they have plenty of New South Wales-based yearlings going also. Segenhoe always sell at this sale and always sell well. They sold a Group 1 winner here in 2023 in Reserve Bank.

“There’s some really good stuff in there so we’re really pleased with how it’s come together.”

Among the highlights is Twin Hills Stud’s Lot 369, a colt by Adelaide (Galileo) who’s a full-brother to Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) heroine Funstar, and a half to another Group 1 winner in Youngstar (High Chaparral).

A colt by Bivouac (Exceed And Excel) who’s a half-brother to dual elite victor Streets Of Avalon (Magnus) is offered as Lot 142 from Supreme Thoroughbreds.

Lot 229 from Newgate Farm is one of two yearlings by Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) at the sale, a colt second foal of dual Group 1 winner Nettoyer.

And Lot 350 is a Vinery Stud filly by Zoustar out of Snitzerland, the six-time black type winner including of the Lighting Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m), who’s thrown two stakes victors from five foals to race.

The Chase offers Lot 90, an I Am Invincible colt who’s the second foal of New Zealand 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Hasahalo.

A filly foal by Starspangledbanner (Choisir) out of the Group 1-winning Amanpour (Northern Meteor) is offered by Penfold Thoroughbreds as Lot 467.

Glenn Lee has a colt from the first crop of dual Derby winner Hitotsu out of quadruple stakes winner and Group 1 runner-up Angel Of Mercy (Hussonet), as Lot 470.

Crossley Thoroughbreds offers Lot 578, a Pinatubo (Shamardal) colt out of Curtana (Exceed And Excel), the dual black type victor who ran second in a Coolmore Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m).

Lot 19 is a colt by sire of the moment Ghaiyyath in the draft of Stonehouse Thoroughbreds who’s a half-brother to VRC Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) hero Extra Brut (Domesday).

Victoria’s Rosemont Stud has Lot 153, a colt by Too Darn Hot who’s the first foal of Canadian Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed La Dragontea (Lope De Vega), a mare who also won an Adelaide Listed.

And Lot 321 is a filly by Harry Angel out of Set To Skelter (Reset), a Melbourne city winner who’s left three stakes winners from six foals to race including MRC Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) queen Another Prophet (Brazen Beau).

Super sire Frankel (Galileo) is represented by three yearlings including Lot 279, Mill Park Stud’s filly first foal of Group 2 winner Quantum Mechanic (Deep Field).

Newgate also offers a colt by Frankel as Lot 33, out of US Listed-winning sprinter Emro (Point Of Entry), while Coolmore has Frankel’s grey filly out of Wind Chimes (Mastercraftsman), the equal leading 3YO Filly on the 2018 WTR mile standings.

Sub-fertile sensation Extreme Choice has nine yearlings at the sale including Lot 256 from his home farm Newgate, a filly fourth foal of triple stakes winner Pecans (Skilled).

This year, Inglis Premier sold 399 Book One lots at an 81 percent clearance rate, with an average of $135,000 and a median of $100,000, with two lots sharing top billing at a neat $1 million.

That compared favourably to 2024’s results of 413 lots sold (82 per cent) with an average of $128,000, a median of $90,000 and a top lot of $925,000.

The stronger 2025 statistics also came as something of a surprise given slightly soft results elsewhere earlier in the year – and were a bellwether for stronger Inglis sales ahead.

“It’s very hard to pinpoint why a sale went so well,” Hutch said.

“It was fairly consistent with our whole sale season in that we got good reward for effort. We target a broad cross section of buyers for every sale but we felt it was particularly effective for Premier last year.

“There was a good feel about the complex. People were pleased with the horses they saw and it just worked out well.

“But 2026 is certainly a stronger catalogue on paper and in terms of our inspections than 12 months ago.”

Hutch said that might bring a level of expectation going into 2026 that wasn’t there ahead of the 2025 sale, “which could be a challenge to manage”.

“But,” he added, “when you can consolidate a catalogue around the strength of vendors such as Yulong, who’ve got big draft in the sale – they invest a huge amount of money in quality bloodstock. That’s had the effect of drawing significant interest to a sale like Premier. They seem pretty determined to support the sale with quality.

“Then you factor in other Victorian farms such as Gilgai. Ric Jamieson is an incredible breeder who’ll be selling exclusively at the sale in 2026.

“Rosemont sold a million dollar yearling at the sale last year, and they’re supporting the sale again.

“I think these sorts of things get people engaged with the sale.”

Yulong is by far the most represented vendor at the sale, with 85 lots supporting their sires including Alabama Express (Redoute’s Choice), Diatonic (Lord Kanaloa), Grunt (O’Reilly), Tagaloa (Lord Kanaloa) and Written Tycoon.

Zhang Yuesheng’s empire also has, as Lot 346, a filly by Kingman (Invincible Spirit) out of an unraced half-sister, from the famed Fall Aspen family, to Group 1 winner and current-day sire King Colorado (Kingman). Yulong also has two colts out of well-related Irish mares who are among the four yearlings at the sale by outstanding French sire Siyouni (Pivotal).

Widden Stud has 50 yearlings entered, Longwood Thoroughbred Farm 44, Rosemont and Blue Gum Farm 34 apiece, Glen Lee 29, Stonehouse Thoroughbreds 26, Crossley Thoroughbreds 23, Twin Hills 21, Gilgai and Newgate 19 each and Coolmore 17.

Inglis data shows that since 2018, a total of 34 Group 1-winning graduates have emerged through Premier, including 16 that could have been bought for $100,000 or less including Benedetta (Hellbent), Griff (Trapeze Artist), Mariamia (Toronado), Gytrash (Lope De Vega) and Santa Ana Lane (Lope De Vega).

Premier has also hatched 33 graduates who’ve earned $1 million or more in Australia, as well as the winners of 314 individual Australian stakes races, also since 2018.

The sale has also provided the winners of 195 individual races in Hong Kong in that time, including Victor The Winner (Toronado), Beat The Clock (Hinchinbrook), Invincible Sage (Thronum), and Senor Toba (Toronado).

Inglis’s Victorian bloodstock manager James Price was delighted with how the 2026 catalogue had come together.

“I feel the standard of yearlings catalogued for the sale for 2026 is higher than at any time I can remember and I know my colleagues feel the sale,’’ Price said in an Inglis statement

“The quality of the pedigrees, in terms of both stallion power and female families, reads exceptionally well. Our expectation was that the strength of the sale in 2025 – noting it was the first Southern Hemisphere sale of 2025 to post improved metrics year on year – would help us to consolidate a stronger catalogue in 2026 and we are confident that is the case.

“Historically the Premier Sale has been a hugely significant producer of superstars with graduates including Black Caviar, Starspangledbanner, Nature Strip, Bella Nipotina, Ole Kirk, Sacred Kingdom, Written By, Booker, September Run, Masked Crusader et cetera, and I’m confident the 2026 catalogue will produce any number of stars as well.”
