Blueblood filly Moscatel (Snitzel) got heads turning at Randwick-Kensington on Monday when she made an impressive winning debut in an 1100-metre maiden contest.

Purchased for $1.6 million by her trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott Racing, Kestrel Thoroughbreds, and John Stewart’s Resolute Bloodstock, the juvenile daughter of Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) proved far too strong for her rivals as she defeated Sing Your Song (Snitzel) by 4.4 lengths under Tim Clark.

There was a further 0.9 lengths back to Quarterback (Super Seth) in the nine-runner field.

Adrian Bott signalled that a step up to stakes company could well be next for the filly.

“There is a two-year-old fillies race at Scone that she might be well-suited to, the Listed Woodlands Stakes,” Bott said.

“That’s the reason we wanted to be here today and that should give her enough time to get through to a race like that or, if not, we could look through to Queensland.”

Speaking on the filly’s purchase at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Bott added: “We bought her as a nice precocious type, but she’s just needed that little bit of time and we’ve always been happy to be patient with her.

“She’s got herself here on her own merits, and I’m sure there’s a lot of upside off the back of today.”

Running in the colours of Resolute Racing and partners, Moscatel is the fourth foal and second to race out of the Group 2-winning Bel Esprit (Royal Academy) mare Sweet Sherry, making her a half-sister to three-time stakes-winning filly Eneeza (Exceed And Excel).
