Maiden Of The Week

Aonair (AUS)

Aonair followed up third-place finishes at her first two starts with a good win, stepping up to 1400 metres for the first time. After breaking cleanly from barrier six, Hugh Bowman settled the filly in sixth place in the early part of the contest, before improving well rounding the home turn. Aonair hit the front at the 100 metre mark and despite a wide trip, she then went on to score by just over a length in winning time of 1:24.01.

The three-year-old filly is out of the winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Perfect Persuasion, whose other three foals to race have all been winners, including Group Three-placed Lady Sharapova (Fastnet Rock) and Listed-placed Papillon (Rock Of Gibraltar).

Perfect Persuasion herself is a sister to the multiple Group One winner Alinghi, the granddam of stakes-placed pair Extra Olives (Redoute’s Choice) and Regatta Rebel (Redoute’s Choice), while her other sister produced Group Three winner and now sire Beneteau (Redoute’s Choice).
In 2015, Perfect Persuasion foaled a colt by Fastnet Rock (Danehill), who was purchased by D Chan for $50,000 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in 2017 from the Coolmore Stud draft, now named Super Weapon. Last year she produced a colt by Zoffany (Dansili) and was most recently covered by the Coolmore-based sire Vancouver (Medaglia d’Oro).
