Attorney General breaks trial duck at Rosehill

There were six heats won by juveniles at the Rosehill trials on Monday, headed by $1.5 million yearling purchase Attorney General (Snitzel).

The Chris Waller-trained colt is yet to make his racecourse debut but was having his sixth trial start and scored his first win, beating stablemate Katoto (Wootton Bassett) by 1.2 lengths under Jason Collett in a 1030-metre heat.

Purchased by Tom Magnier out of Arrowfield at last year’s Inglis Easter sale, Attorney General is the first foal out of the unraced Teofilo (Galileo) mare Subella, herself a granddaughter of Group 1 winner Zomaradah (Deploy) – the dam of champion sire Dubawi (Dubai Millennium).

The Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained Like An Eagle (Home Affairs) ran out an impressive 3.4 lengths winner of his 900-metre heat, defeating Baltusrol (Tiger Of Malay).

A $220,000 Inglis Easter purchase for George Moore Bloodstock, Like An Eagle was bred and sold by Torryburn Stud, just like his sire Home Affairs (I Am Invincible). Like An Eagle is a half-brother to Group 1-placed $1.4 million earner Payline (Shooting To Win) being out of the stakes-winning Casino Prince (Flying Spur) mare Slots.

Written Tycoon (Iglesia) colt Crescent King took his trials record to two wins from as many starts, scoring by 0.2 lengths over Many Peaks (Brutal) in a 900-metre event.

Trained by Peter Snowden, Crescent King was bred by Yulong and purchased for $200,000 at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, before then being resold for $300,000 to Amy Feng when offered in the Kenmore Lodge draft at the Magic Millions Horses in Training Sale the same year.

He is the first foal out of the winning mare True Moonlight (Not A Single Doubt), herself a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group winners Gunnison (Not A Single Doubt) and Selenia (Not A Single Doubt). Other trial winners on the card were Lion Hunt (Palace Pier), Why So Hard (All Too Hard) and Dubious Express (Dubious).
