Chaussure put up a really promising effort with a good win here at his second race start having run second on debut over 1300 metres at Kembla Grange on 30 July. Ridden by Tommy Berry, Chaussure settled back in second last place in the nine-horse field, behind a good tempo. He commenced a wide move approaching the home turn, hit the front in the centre of the track at the 200 metres and then dashed clear to score impressively, scoring by two lengths.

Chaussure is the second foal out of Keepa Cheval (Keeper), a winner over 1200 metres in New Zealand and a half-sister to the multiple Group One winner King Mufhasa (Pentire) being out of the unraced mare Sheila Cheval (Mi Preferido). Sheila Cheval has produced six winners from ten foals to race and is a half-sister to the Listed winner and Group One-placed Commander Cheval (All Glory). This is also the family of the New Zealand One Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Pace Invader (Westminster).

Keepa Cheval was covered by Westbury Stud’s Makfi (Dubawi) last year having produced a filly by Shamexpress (O’Reilly). She also has an unraced two-year-old called Bostonian (Jimmy Choux).
