Cocoexcel scored a very promising win on debut under Brenton Avdulla, handling the Heavy 10 conditions well. She began nicely from barrier five and led without crossing to the rails before taking a clear lead on straightening. She went on to win by a length, leaving the impression that she had plenty in hand.

A $600,000 purchase by Vinery Stud from the Broadwater Thoroughbreds draft at the 2015 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Cocoexcel is the first foal out of Dehere (Deputy Minister) mare Perfect Hostess, who won twice at 1200 metres.

Cocoexcel’s second dam, Eire Hostess (O’Reilly), was a Listed winner over 1100 metres and has produced two winners from three named foals.

This is also the family of the Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Headturner (Anabaa), Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Anacheeva (Anabaa) and their Group One-winning half-sister O’Marilyn (O’Reilly).

Perfect Hostess also has a filly by Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) who was born last October and was served by Exceed And Excel (Danehill) last season.
