Maiden Of The Week

Exocet (AUS)

O: Pinecliff Racing
B: GSA Bloodstock
T: Lee and Anthony Freedman
W: Iga Liquor @ Ryans Torquay Maiden, 1300m, Geelong, 4 September

Having only her second start, Exocet put up a smart effort to win stepping up to 1300 metres. Jumping from barrier three in the 13-horse field, Exocet settled back in seventh place, between runners, before tracking up nicely nearing the home turn. Making her challenge with 100 metres left to run Exocet finished strongly to score a narrow but good victory.

Exocet is out of the once-raced Zabeel (Sir Tristram) mare Crillion making him a half-brother to the Listed winner and Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) third Ready For Victory (More Than Ready).

Exocet is the second winner for his dam who is herself a half-sister to the Champion Two-Year-Old and Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Meurice (Strategic). This is also the direct family of Group One-winning sires Rubiton (Century) and Euclase (Century) with their dam Ruby (Seventh Hussar) Ecoxet’s third dam.

Exocet is Crillon’s second foal. She then missed to Street Cry (Machiavellian) in 2013, has a yearling filly by Bernardini (A P Indy) and was covered again by More Than Ready (Southern Halo) last November.
